Balek Wildlife Sanctuary sees a Decline in Visitors
Balek Wildlife Sanctuary in Madang province is a wildlife habitat.
In the 1970's, it used to be a tourism hot spot getting over 100 visitors every week, but locals say that the numbers have dropped significantly due to the increase in crime and lack of political support from the tourism industry.

Ken-Dog Discovers Papua New Guinea Aug 20, 2015
Our long travel day started out saying goodbye to Pacific Garden Hotel in Goroka and hit the Highlands Hwy that Perry our driver so expertly controlled. I marveled along the way as lake, mountains and sky melted into a soup of washed colors that kept my attention around each turn. After a couple of hours our group leader, Niitn, gave us the opportunity to stretch our legs as we walked along the highway and take it all in at a slower pace. I was surprise by the amount of traffic of big vehicles, but also played a game of looking for unique bottles thrown out by people as well as the usual soda and beer bottles that litter every highway. Our bus stopped along a river bed for lunch that I later found out to be the Ramu River that is just under 400miles long and which is also the highway name we are traveling on to Madang. On this highway we could see fields of oil palm trees that enclose the highway as well as smoke from the burning. We also saw lots of construction work and crossed narrow bridges as we snaked our way closer to Madang. Just before reaching Madang we stopped at the Balek Wildlife Sanctuary to view the sulfur creek pouring out of a limestone cave. The creek is home to turtles, eels and fish, but also there are beliefs of healing powers from the water. I think it would be toxic to me. The gardens were filled with many tropical plants and trees. Our next new home was the Jais Aben Resort where we settled in.
Papua New Guinea's 'gay village' offers sanctuary, hope
As a gay man in Papua New Guinea, where gay sex is illegal and stigma and violence widespread, Kapera Patrick remembers homophobic thugs pelting him with abuse, stones and bottles. His life changed when he was taken in by a family in Hanuabada, a settlement in Port Moresby which has become a haven of tolerance, offering sanctuary for dozens in a gay community that is gradually coming out of hiding.

Take a sip and see if this isn't poisonous-Madang Mining & Environment Act Review Highlight
I'm here with the real thing and I want you all to take a sip to see if its poisonous. Terry Kunning is from the Basamuk area of Madang Province. Terry feels that his beautiful Astrolobe Bay sea water is currently being poisoned as he speaks, due to the Chinese owned Ramu Nickel Mine's continuous dumping of tonnes of mining waste since it started. The mine has just started operating, and this red-ish murky looking seawater that Terry's holding, has happened already. Terry was one of the many Basamuk Landowners who took the MCC and Government as far as the Supreme court, against this Marine Dumping. He is one of the many people of Madang, who voiced similar concerns at the recent Mining and Environment Act review. The forum was organized by the Madang Provincial Government regarding Riverine Tailings/DSTP/Marine Dumping, as to whether it should or should not be banned. The people said BAN IT!

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written
language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding

- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through
