Ballycotton (Irish: Baile Choitín) is a Seaside resort village in County Cork, Ireland, situated about 25 miles east of Cork city. It is a famous fishing village and and has given its name to the folk band Ballycotton. The village is set on a rocky-ledge overlooking Ballycotton Bay and its sandy beach that stretches for about 25 km east to Knockadoon Head. The current village is actually a re-settlement of an older village which is now entirely underwater. Ballycotton experiences severe coastal erosion with metres of land crumbling into the sea every few years. It is a site of international research interest on coastal erosion
Lighthouse Situated on the steep sloped Ballycotton Island approximately 2 km from the village, the lighthouse was commissioned in 1851 when the keeper and his family lived on the island and their children rowed to school weather permitting. By 1899 the four keepers were housed in the town with keepers rotating duty at the lighthouse. In 1975 the light was converted to electricity and it was automated on 28 March 1992 when the lighthouse keepers were withdrawn

Join me as i take a trip to Ballycotton Lighthouse in Co Cork with the hope of capturing a nice sunrise. I did manage to capture a nice image which you can see at the end of the video. Half my footage got corrupted on my SD card so i was missing an intro for the vlog and some scenes in the middle but we made do with what we had!
In this vlog i speak about how i love to use a short shutter speed to capture motion and detail in the waves and how this gives a shot nice energy and atmosphere. Let me know how you shoot your seascapes in the comments below and don't forget to like and subscribe. Thanks for watching and see you next time!

Ballycotton
Ballycotton is the hidden gem of East Cork. It is a small picturesque fishing village which sits on a rocky-ledge overlooking Ballycotton Bay and is surrounded by sandy beaches. Only 40 minutes from Cork airport and Cork City. This is the perfect escape to the beautiful East Cork countryside.
Situated on the steep sloped Ballycotton Island approximately 2 km from the village, the lighthouse was commissioned in 1851 when the keeper and his family lived on the island and their children rowed to school weather permitting. By 1899 the four keepers were housed in the town with keepers rotating duty at the lighthouse.[2] In 1975 the light was converted to electricity and it was automated on 28 March 1992 when the lighthouse keepers were withdrawn.
This picturesque village is surrounded by wonderful beaches. In the village there is a small beach called the Conger by Ballycotton Pier. For the more adventurous swimmers you can swim from The men’s bathing area which is accessed by steps down to a rocky platform on your left going towards the Cliff Walk.
The Cliff Walk is from Ballycotton village to Ballyandreen beach along a cliff track where you are flanked by meadows on one side and the ocean on the other.
With over 300 bird species recorded, it is a great location for enthusiastic bird watchers to come and visit.
Ballycotton Development and the Seafood & Shanty teams host a number of the fun family friendly events throughout the year.
