Mother-Daughter team, Laurel Moore and Elizabeth Haffner left Los Angeles and careers in Entertainment for the verdant farming community of Ojai, California in the year 2000. Seasoned world travelers, the two knew that the singular ultimate expression of community and locality was to bring people together with food and drink, and so they established Azu that year.
Having found a home in the Historic Bill Baker's Bakery, Laurel and Elizabeth reinvented the space to accommodate an elegant, casual atmosphere in which to serve their favorite worldly comfort foods, and elevate the level of dining in Ojai.
With two full bars,Three large dining rooms, front and back patio dining, and a focus on house produced craft foods, local meat and produce, local wine and beer, and craft cocktails, Azu has become the most elite restaurant in Ojai, and a return destination for the local community as well as Ojai visitors.
With a restaurant capacity of 120, this large beautiful, art filled space, is also the number one venue in Ojai for high end rehearsal dinners and private events.
Laurel and Elizabeth are constantly building to utilize the natural bounty of Ojai, and continuously grow the level of excellence Azu has achieved, while preserving an anchor for this growing food forward community.

Book-loving couple launch mobile bookstore
(5 May 2016) LEAD IN:
Tehran's International Book Fair is underway in the Iranian capital under the slogan; Tomorrow is too late to read amid concerns the country's residents are increasingly distancing themselves from reading.
One book-loving Iranian couple is trying to change all that by introducing a new way to read - and discover - books.
STORY-LINE:
A national decline in reading books is the main topic amongst booksellers gathering at Tehran's International Book Fair.
Although there are no concrete figures, the rate of book reading in Iran has been on the decline in recent years. Many blame widespread usage of the internet as the main culprit.
The average per capita rate of reading is believed to be less than ten minutes per day.
In July 2011, Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say on all state matters, lamented the low reading rate and number of publications in the country.
He called for a change in the nation's reading habits.
That could be helped by this book-loving couple, who are introducing a new way to read - and discover - books.
Sarvenaz Heraner and Mehdi Yazdani have a created a mobile bookstore, called Ketabraneh or rolling bookstore.
They're aiming to inspire a love of reading in non-readers, who prefer scrolling through apps and other electronic material.
The bibliophiles first launched the quirky initiative in 2009 by turning their small personal car into a library on wheels.
They begin by placing book racks in their car's trunk, over rear and side windows and on top of the glove compartment.
They then load it up with books on various subjects as well as calming music so passengers can be surrounded by an atmospheric cultural space.
Next, they offer free rides to random hitchhikers in various Tehran districts.
The books prove a great conversation starter for curious passengers. Many say it came as a pleasant surprise.
It was a very interesting experience to me, says Tehran resident, Ali Boushehri after leaving the car.
I could not believe that there is a couple who spend their time encouraging people to read.
In addition to their car, Sarvenaz, a writer, poet and university teacher, and her husband have opened a book-themed cafe at the entrance of a high school in northwestern Tehran.
The book cafe offers a relaxed atmosphere to students, teachers and parents.
At certain times of the day, Sarvenaz and Mehdi read stories and books to small audiences.
They could have chosen another job and earned much more income, says Bahareh Omidvar, who attends the couple's book reading circle while picking up her son from school.
I describe their work as a sacrifice. They are raising people's information and culture. I think that it is fantastic.
What makes this project different from other mobile bookstores around the world is that Sarvenaz and Mehdi do not park and wait for customers to come to them.
They offer rides just like a taxi service and then offer the additional option of reading.
Sarvenaz recalls how Ketabraneh first came into existence when they decided to offer a ride in their book-packed vehicle to a couple of men on a rainy day.
As she read a story book aloud, the passengers became hooked and didn't want to leave.
When we get stuck in traffic, the one that does not drive reads for the other to make it more tolerable, she says.
On a rainy day, we were reading for each other and the car was full of books when we saw two passengers standing in the rain.
We gave them a lift and I continued reading aloud, because I am a teacher with high self-confidence!
My reading seemed to unwind and uplift them because they did not want to leave the car at their destination and wanted to listen until the end of the story.

Gaea, the earth, came out of darkness so long ago that nobody knows when or how. Earth was young and lonesome, for nothing lived on her yet. Above her rose Uranus, the sky, dark and blue, set all over with sparkling stars. He was magnificent to behold, and young Earth looked up at him and fell in love with him. Sky smiled down at Earth, twinkling with his countless stars, and they were joined in love. Soon young Earth became Mother Earth, the mother of all things living. All her children loved their warm and bountiful mother and feared their mighty father, Uranus, lord of the universe. - D'AULAIRES Book of Greek Myths. Taken from Gaea Soul's website:
