The Bassano Dam, built in 1912 for diverting irrigation water for the surrounding area, sits about 10km south of Bassano and is operated by the Eastern Irrigation District (EID).
View from the top of the hill facing North towards where the Bow River flows through the dam.
All gates now open and word is that it's flowing at 120% of its designed capacity.
No major debris yet that we've seen come through from washed out properties upriver.
Train Derailment Bassano Alberta Mar 4/2011,..Pt#1
At approx 4:00 AM this morning Mar 4, there was a train wreck in the town of Bassano. Several train cars came off the track and made the mainline impassible. Heavy equipment is being trucked in to clear the line and rebuild the damaged section of track.

At this time on Sunday the water level had visibly dropped since the previous night by about a foot and a half, from where we could see debris on the banks.
The trees on the beach are not normally submerged.
