Bathurst Lighthouse & Pinky Beach, Rottnest Island, Western Australia (Drone Footage - Aerial Video)
Bathurst Lighthouse is one of two lighthouses on Rottnest Island, the other being Wadjemup Lighthouse. It is located on Bathurst Point, in the northeast of the island, and was activated in 1900. The lighthouse was erected in response to a series of shipping disasters in the area, which included the loss of the City of York in 1899. The light source and lantern house were originally to be used at Cape Leeuwin but were then built in on Rottnest Island. In 1920 the original acetylene flame was replaced by a flasher, which made the keeper superfluous. An electric light was installed in 1986. Bathurst Lighthouse serves as the rear light in the pair of Kingston Reef's leading lights, which guide ships departing from Fremantle through the reefs near the island. Its light is characterised by a group of four flashes that occurs every sixteen seconds.
Pinky Beach is located immediately to the east and is a 250 m long northeast-facing beach, with the Bathurst Lighthouse located above the southern end of the beach, and water treatment plant behind the northern end. It is bordered by calcarenite bluffs and backed by a grassy foredune. Scattered rocks, reefs and seagrass meadows lie off the low energy beach.

Rottnest Island shipwrecks
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The following list of shipwrecks off Rottnest Island (32°0′S 115°31′E / -32, 115.517) shows twelve larger and surveyed wrecks close to the island, which is off the Western Australia coast.
Since the first Europeans visited the west coast of Australia in the 16th century, Rottnest has seen numerous recorded shipwrecks. The 11 kilometre long and 4.5 kilometre wide island is surrounded by hidden and partly exposed reefs whilst being buffeted by the Roaring Forties. It is situated 12 km west of the port of Fremantle meaning that much of the maritime traffic to Western Australia's major port passes close by.
Details on every shipwreck at the island are unknown as many thousands of vessels of varying size visit the island each year. Other ships have been lost in waters further off-shore including some closer to Fremantle. Still others were stranded on rocks at Rottnest but were re-floated. The Anitra II is in this latter category but is included in the list as the hull is on display on the island near the main settlement.
All of the wrecks are protected under Commonwealth legislation in the Historic Shipwrecks Act (1976) and State legislation in the Maritime Archaeology Act (1973). Plaques have been located next to the wrecks as well as onshore to indicate their locations.
Lighthouses
The first stone lighthouse built in Western Australia was completed in 1849 and built in the centre of the island.[1] The 20 m tower was replaced in 1896 with a new tower as the current Wadjemup Lighthouse.
Following an inquiry after the City of York disaster in 1899, a second lighthouse was built at Bathurst Point on the north eastern end of the island.

This is Brookfield Place in Perth City or BHP Tower is its common name
The very top of the building is 246.9m above sea level
The distance to the roof is 211.6m
From a distance the very top of the building and its roof are easy to spot
The observation you are about to see is from the Perth Hills to Rottnest Island
And we will use this building as a reference point
The total distance from my spot in the hills to the Wadjemup Lighthouse is 52km
So if we live on a flat plane approximately 3 lighthouses should fit up to the 240m line
My exact height is 237m + 1.5m tripod which equals 238.5m
However if we do live on a spinning globe then 5.65 lighthouses should fit up to the 240m live
I found 2 spots where I can see Rottnest from
This is the first at 238.5m elevation getting a really good look at the lighthouse
By using the Brookfield Place building as a guide we see approx 3 and a bit lighthouses will fit up to the line
But we should see 5.65 lighthouses
So the green line represents where the lighhouse should be if we lived on a globe and there was 221m of drop
You can see there is a big difference between where the lighthouse is on the white line compared to where it should be on a globe which is the green line
Tomorrow morning I am going to film again this time even earlier to try and get even better footage from this spot
Oh and where is the horizon - clearly behind Rottnest Island
On a globe the horizon should finish half into the island.
I will get you clearer footage to show you this in the next video.
Thanks for watching - more footage coming soon
Almost there with the Go Fund Me page
Lets make it Thursday 14 Feb 2019 as the last day, so if you want to get involved please donate before Thursday.
I have some new and interesting ideas about the drone camera which i will share with you in the next video.
Wadjemup Lighthouse on Rottnest Island
Wadjemup Lighthouse, Rottnest Island, Western Australia (Drone Foortage - Aerial Video)
Completed in 1849, the original 20-metre (66 ft) Wadjemup Lighthouse (also known as Rottnest Island Light Station) was Western Australia's first stone lighthouse and was built to provide a safer sailing passage for ships to Fremantle Port and the Swan River Colony.
A second and larger replacement tower was built on the same site in 1896. It is the fourth oldest extant lighthouse in Western Australia and was Australia's first rotating beam lighthouse. A shipwreck which was partly caused by poor communications and misunderstood signals from the lighthouse prompted the construction of another lighthouse on the island in 1900.
