EKKANites 2018 - LOWD V8 Utes, Cobb and Co and Singing Time
In the LOWD V8 Utes Super Challenge, The Royal Queensland Show (Ekka)’s own Bronco and Cowboy rev it up in this exciting V8 ute challenge. Two Holden Commodore Utes perform awe-inspiring driving manoeuvres and spectacular stunts in a precision driving display, including reverse hand break turn flicks, spins and slides - with two of Australia’s leading V8 drivers, Gary Baxter and Neville Whittenbury, behind the wheels. The drivers then turn up the heat in a thrilling race and even throw in some burnouts and donuts for the rev heads out there. Also making an apperance is legendary country singer Adam Brand. He’s Gary’s old V8 Ute racing rival and he is issuing Gary a challenge - everyone just hopes these boys learn to place nice!
In the Wild Colonial Wagon Chase, To the shout of ‘all aboard,’ Ekka guests take their seat for a colonial show featuring a story full of frocks, fun, bulls and wagon wheels. The show rolls into the Main Arena with a Cobb & Co carriage pulled by four magnificent work horses and a ground shaking cattle stampede featuring 20 bulls, sure to blow the dust off any cowboy hat! With the bulls mustered into their yard in spectacular fashion, two clever canines round up a mob of sheep, led by professional sheep dog handlers Adam Miller and Craig Freestone. All seems to be running smoothly in this quiet colonial town, with the locals, played by members of the Queensland Colonial Association, happily going about their day - but unfortunately, not for long! The once peaceful town is thrown into BIG chaos when some bushrangers decide to pay a visit. The horses leading the carriage get spooked and take off, leading a brave stockman on a high speed horseback chase to bring the runaway wagon to a halt – but can he leap from the horse onto the moving coach in time? The hair-raising show, performed by the Rooftop Express, includes a salute to a time in Queensland when Cobb and Co was king and those who pioneered the tracks they took are the legends and heroes now found in our movies, books and poetry.
The Wild Colonial Wagon Chase is a great way to showcase the great history of Queensland and the importance of preserving our heritage and keeping history alive!!!

Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog - Video Learning - WizScience.com
The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog is a bobtailed, medium-sized breed of dog. The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog was developed in Australia to herd cattle, and descends from crosses between European herding dogs and the Australian dingo.
The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog descended from Smithfield Cattle Dogs in England, which were brought to Australia in the early 19th century and crossed with the dingo. Records of working dogs are scarce from this time period, and there are several different accounts of the breed's development. One is that a drover named Timmins from Bathurst, New South Wales, crossed the Smithfield dogs with the dingo, producing a type of working dog called Timmin's Biters. In order to mute their dingo characteristics and make the dogs easier to handle, further crosses were made with Scottish smooth collies, producing speckled red and blue dogs that were often born tailless.
In the book A Dog Called Blue, author Noreen Clark makes the case that both the tailless Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog and the Australian Cattle Dog descended from the same stock, called Halls Heelers, kept in the 1830s by a very large cattle operation run by Thomas Hall. The dogs which were also crosses of Smithfield Cattle Dogs and dingo, but the breeds diverged at some point in the late 19th century. Selective breeding of the tailless or short tailed dogs has fixed the characteristic of today's breed. A summary of both versions of the breed's history is found in the Fédération Cynologique Internationale breed standard.

Weaner cattle for sale at Warrnambool Jan 16 topped at $1034
For more Livestock Reports by Murray Arnel -
Broad Victorian, NSW and South Australian restocker inquiry underpinned a consistent demand for weaner steers and heifers at Warrnambool on Friday.
Offering 3830-head, prices for Angus and Charolais-cross steers, sold liveweight, traded mostly at the higher rates of 220- 248c/kg while heifers made from 210c and topped at 233 cents.
Processor and lot-feeder competition also made a valuable contribution to the strong demand in a market where grass-finishers and backgrounders frequently outlasted the opposition especially on pens with weights exceeding 350kg, and up to 440kg.
