Here you can see the Spring Point Pilot Boat getting way out ahead of the cargo ship 'Anette' which had been trailing us ever since we first departed Portland. I got a great zoomed in shot of Portland Headlight, the most popular lighthouse in Maine and one of the most popular in the USA! It even holds the title of 'most photographed lighthouse'.

OREGON COAST T-34 EMERGENCY LANDING
Camping in Oregon on the coast. Took my E-Flight T-34 mentor up with a the GoPro camera to get some aerial shots. Weather was really nice up high, but choppy wind 50 feet off the deck.
Went for a second hop when I ran out of battery very unexpectedly! Had to come in very hard with almost no glide speed. But made it in once piece!

The 'Red Triangle' off the California coast is known for great white shark attacks
California's Red Triangle is infamous for shark attacks. Over 1/3 of great white shark attacks in the United States happen there. Following is a transcript of the video.
There’s a stretch of ocean off California's coastline that's different from the rest. It starts around Bodega Bay; extends south to about 50 miles west of San Francisco; and ends in the Big Sur region. This area is infamous for shark attacks, but not just any shark: an estimated 38% of all great white shark attacks in the US happen here.
As a result, these waters bear the name Red Triangle. The Red Triangle includes roughly 200 miles of coastline. But it’s not the beachgoers and surfers that attract great whites to these waters. It’s the rich population of other mammals like elephant seals, harbor seals, sea lions, and sea otters. Great whites prefer to prey on these animals instead of humans.
However, that doesn’t stop the occasional encounter. Contrary to popular belief, great whites don’t mistake surfers for other prey due to poor eyesight — they have great vision. It actually comes down to their inquisitive nature. Great whites are notoriously curious and will taste test unfamiliar objects, including humans.
In fact, records indicate that great whites have attacked more humans around the world than any other shark. But before you swear off California beaches for the summer, remember that shark attacks are rare.
Each year, less than 100 attacks occur worldwide, and only about 5 to 15% of those prove fatal. You have a greater chance of dying from one of these animals, instead. Luckily, bug spray is available at the local drugstore.

Tillamook Head Light House Centennial aka Terrible Tilly
Pat Wilkins NW Journal takes us to the 100th celebration of the Tillamook Head Lighthouse.
So on to the myopic. the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse since her decommissioning in 1957, focuses on the landmark's most recent owners, Mimi Morissette and her partners (Rudi Milpacher)in the Eternity at Sea Columbarium.
Morissette gets credit for being a dreamer. Furthermore, she claimed to have saved the lighthouse from being carted off to California and turned into a restaurant-a scheme cooked up by another potential buyer. But as dreams are wont to do, her far-out plan for the lighthouse crashed like a mighty wave.
When Morissette and associates bought Terrible Tilly in 1980 for $50,000, she was a young thirty-something working as a real estate investment counselor. In pictures taken of her at the lighthouse on her first big cleaning day, she appears idealistic and determined. She and her group of investors transformed Tilly in short order, from a crumbling edifice destined for demise to a spic and span, newly restored historic icon. Just a year later, they had Terrible Tilly listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In the meantime, they replaced interior wood with bricks and cement, added a protective patina to the exterior, and bricked up the windows for the sake of preserving the lighthouse into perpetuity. Their dreams for Tilly stretched far into the future, in fact, into eternity.
Morissette and her partners, marking the hundredth birthday of the 1880-era lighthouse, opened the Eternity at Sea Columbarium, and began selling niches in the lighthouse, which they intended to build into the interior-a sort of honeycomb structure to secure urns containing people's ashes. So sure were they that people would pay significant sums to be buried on the only island columbarium in the country that Morissette remarked, If John Lennon and Steve McQueen had known about this, they wouldn't have had their ashes scattered at sea.
An agreement with the Hollywood Hall of Fame Museum had Morissette believing movie stars would pay up to $25,000 for a niche at the top of the lighthouse, in the exclusive Lantern Room (where only Hollywood Hall of Fame founding members could be buried).
But by 1984, four years after Morissette's purchase of the lighthouse, less than 100 of the 100,000 niches had been sold, and only seven urns were held at the columbarium. A national marketing campaign begun in 1985 did little to boost popularity of the scheme. The only creatures flocking to get their piece of the rock were seabirds.

WWII Abandoned Observation Bunkers & Historical Marker
Today I visited some WWII abandoned observation bunkers near Delaura Beach Road just south of Fort Stevens Oregon. The site is near an historical marker where one of several Japanese shells bombarded the area of Fort Stevens in June of 1942. Nobody died, but its an interesting piece of history!
