Gansbaai Mountain Biking
New Gansbaai Black Trails Challenge Hardcore Mountain Bikers
Experienced mountain bikers will love the vast choice of new routes that have just launched in Gansbaai, South of Cape Town.
The black, blue and red trails, are the perfect training ground for the many demanding local mountain biking races, with a vast variety of terrain, including: steep rocky descents, tight switchbacks and spectacular views in some of the most beautiful Fynbos Reserves in the country.
The Black Routes
The Serious Challenge - De Uijlenes Route - 30km
There are two new black routes, but the route starting at De Uijlenes is the most challenging. Fit riders with good technical ability will love this trail. The route has fun single track sections, rock berms, jumps, tough climbs with exhilarating, fast technical descents.
The route features beautiful ascents through Flower Valley, and stream crossings before finishing gracefully with beautiful views over Stanford and Pearly Beach.
The Klipspringer Trail - From Lomond Wines and Flower Valley Conservation - 32km
This exhilarating black route crosses five different properties in the Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy, including; Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, Flower Valley Conservation Trust, Lomond wines, Farm 215 Nature Reserve and Goedvertrou Farm. The views and surrounding natural environment are breathtaking.
The Blue route - From Gansbaai Information - 25km
From Gansbaai this trail follows the tar road to either Franskraal or to Uilenskraal resort, via the beach. Signage then guides riders along the coast to Kleinbaai, and across the grassy area next to the tidal pool, to get to the 4X4 track along the coast. After about 2.5km riders can either keep left along a very hilly sandy road, or keep right and join the tar road to the lighthouse.
The red route - From Gansbaai Information - 85km
This route starts at Gansbaai Information and follows the Baardskeerdersbos road over Sopieshoogte, turns left onto the gravel road past the Kraaibosch dam to Papiesvlei and over Nuwepos to Baardskeerdersbos and back to Sopieshoogte. The total elevation is roughly 1200m, with the Nuwepos climb at the 40km the longest.
