Hiking Bear Lake In Rocky Mountain National Park
We weren’t prepared for hiking and the weather at Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park, we ended up hiking in thundersnow! Driving from Denver where it was beautiful and sunny the weather changed so much by the time we got to the park (RMNP). We tried to hike until thunder and lightning started falling. So we drove to Boulder to get dinner then headed home. I promised Gig we’d go back one day when the weather was better,

Bear and Sprague Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park, CO, USA
The Rocky Mountain National Park is located on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountain region of Colorado, USA, close to the community of Estes Park. From Estes Park, the Rocky Mountain National Park Headquarters at the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center is a 6km drive to the west on Route 36. From there, the junction to Bear Lake Road is a further 2 km along Route 36 on the left side, and a 14 km drive along the scenic Bear Lake Road leads to the Bear Lake Trailhead.
At Bear Lake, a 1 km. graded accessible path around the edge of the lake is a popular low-impact trail. Aspen groves along this trail provide outstanding autumn colors in early September --- a colorful contrast to distant, gray, snow-tipped mountain peaks.
Sprague Lake (on Bear Lake Road , about 5 km. before the Bear Lake Trailhead) offers a second popular accessible lakeside path. The still water of this lake mirrors a panoramic vista of the mountains of the Continental Divide. Abner Sprague, an early homesteading settler, created a trout pond by damming a mountain stream, and colorful Eastern Brook Trout still swim in shallow feeder streams.
Rocky Mountain National Park - Drive to Bear Lake Area
This drive begins in Estes Park, Colorado, and follows US 36 into Rocky Mountain National Park. First stop is the Bear Lake trailhead, second stop is Sprague Lake, then the video ends with the drive out of the park, back to Estes Park.
Cub Lake Hike , Rocky Mountain National Park, CO, USA
The Rocky Mountain National Park is located on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountain region of Colorado, USA, close to the community of Estes Park. From Estes Park, the Rocky Mountain National Park Headquarters at the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center is a 6km drive to the west on Route 36. From there, the junction to Bear Lake Road is a further 2 km along Route 36 on the left side, and after a 1 km drive along the scenic Bear Lake Road, a small spur road to the right leads to the Cub Lake Trailhead.
The Cub Lake Trailhead is at 2450 m. above sea level, and the 3.7km. hike to Cub Lake only requires a 165 m. increase in elevation. The first section of the trail is level as it crosses the western edge of the Moraine Park grasslands. The trail then climbs steadily through aspen and conifer woodlands, and eventually emerges at an area of tall wind-swept grasses. Beyond, surface water lily plants encircle the shallows of Cub Lake ---- the cobalt-blue center of the lake is plant-free. Interestingly, a clear narrow band of lake water bisects the encircling band of lily plants. Though this circular band looks as if a speedboat had cut it, it is in fact a natural phenomenon.
Beyond Cub Lake, a downhill trail eventually meets the Big Thompson River at The Pool junction. From there, a slightly downhill hiking trail parallels the river back to the Cub Lake Trailhead for a total loop hike of about 10 km. Along this return trail, the path crosses several large landslide areas, and passes through immense tumbled boulders in the Arch Rocks area.

Bears in Estes Park and RMNP
Black bears were celebrated in Estes Park May 7th with a fantastic benefit concert by Cowboy Brad Fitch and the TropiCowboy Band. A fun education area included Colorado Parks & Wildlife, Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Valley Bear Education Task Force, Bears Are Us, Estes Park Police Auxillary, YMCA and more. This 15 minute video was shown and featured these same fine organizations warning of feeding bears, intentionally or unintentionally. Hear what they have to say.

Hiking to Cub Lake in the Rocky Mountain National Park - Colorado
Dave and Patti Foltz take a five mile hike to Cub Lake in the Rocky Mountain National Park on June 14, 2012.
Emerald Lake Trail - Rocky Mountain National Park
If you have ever wanted to visit Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, consider it's number #1 rated easy-moderate hike, the Emerald Lake Trail. Under 4 miles round trip and you pass 4 breathtaking alpine lakes on the hike. One of my favorite easy trails in the entire parks system.
These are 3 things that everyone OBVIOUSLY needs to consider before just driving out to do a hike. There are MANY other considerations to be made, but these 3 will at least get you started. These clips are from some gopro ramblings when I spent a week exploring Rocky Mountain National Park earlier this June.
Bear Lake to Flattop Mountain - Rocky Mountain National Park, CO
We hiked from Bear Lake to Flattop Mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park in August 2019. Approximately 9 miles and 3000 feet of climb ending at 12,400 feet.
We had the honor to walk on a mountain in Rocky Mountain National Forest. On stolen land of hinono’eino’ biito’owu’ (Arapaho)
Tséstho’e (Cheyenne) and
Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute) people.
I do not conquer mountains. I conquer myself. Video cannot do this justice.
This was a challenging hike starting above 9,000 feet and taking us to the Continental Divide at over 12,000 feet. There were stunning views of Several Lakes, Including Bierstadt Lake, Bear Lake, Dream Lake, and Emerald Lake. At the top, there are stunning views of both sides of the Rocky Mountains and Tyndall Glacier.

RMNP Moraine Park to Bear Lake
What is becoming one of my favorite hikes - a 9.4 mile (one way) trip from Moraine Park to Bear Lake via Fern and Odessa Lakes - possible because of the park shuttle busses. This video is a compilation of several trips and includes stills as well as video. Music produced using Sonic Fire Pro 4 by SmartSound Software.

Rocky Mountain National Park Bear Lake Sky Pond Hikes Estes Park, CO
Estes Park, Colorado--- This was our hike, called Bear Lake, the campground shown is Aspenglen Campground, located in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. The later part of the video when we are hiking is our hike up to The Lock, Lake of Glass, Alberta Falls, and then finally getting up to Sky Pond. INCREDIBLE views and a experience with nature like no other! There is no other mountain community/mountain area that beats this place....You have to go!
Cub Lake, Rocky Mountains, Colorado, United States
Cub Lake, Rocky Mountains, Colorado, USA 2005
From Estes Park, continue west on Hwy 36 to the Beaver Meadows entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. Just beyond the entrance, turn left and head south on Bear Lake Rd. for about 1.3 miles, then turn right (west) toward the Moraine Park Campground (the turnoff is just past a large stand of aspen trees, near the Moraine Park Visitor's Center). This road follows the north side of Moraine Park for about 1/2 mile to another junction. At this junction, turn left toward the Fern Falls And Fern Lake and Cub Lake Trailheads. There are no facilities at the parking lot, but there is a restroom at the Fern Lake parking lot. The trailhead parking lot is small and fills up quickly. If so, you can continue up the road to the Fern Lake parking lot, but this will add about 1 mile if you walk back to the Cub Lake Trail. Be advised that during the busy summer months, even the Fern Lake parking lot can fill up by midmorning.
