Convent of St John in Mustair - UNESCO World Heritage Site
A visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Benedictine Convent of St John in the Mustair valley of eastern Switzerland. This monastery was founded in 775, probably on the orders of Charlemagne, and the church contains frescoes and artwork still surviving from that era in great condition! An incredible spot, and one that I feel very privileged to see.

Historic hotels: Hotel Chalavaina, Val Müstair, Switzerland
In a region of cowbells, magnificent mountains, and babbling brooks, the Hotel Chalavaina in Val Müstair, Switzerland offers a journey through time. As part of Switzerland's heritage, it has been named a monument.
Idyllic Val Müstair, one of the few areas in Switzerland where Romansch is spoken, is between the Italian border and alpine passes that lead to the heart of Switzerland.
It was here at what is now known as Hotel Chalavaina that orders were given for the famous Swiss Battle of Calven. (Chalavaina is Romansch for Calven). The two crossed swords of Hotel Chalavaina's sign commemorate the military victory that led to Swiss independence.

The Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm, also known as the English Grounds of Wörlitz, is one of the first and largest English parks in Germany and continental Europe. It was created in the late 18th century under the regency of Duke Leopold III of Anhalt-Dessau , returning from a Grand Tour to Italy, the Netherlands, England, France and Switzerland he had undertaken together with his friend architect Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff. Both strongly influenced by the ideals of The Enlightenment, they aimed to overcome the formal garden concept of the Baroque era in favour of a naturalistic landscape as they had seen at Stourhead Gardens and Ermenonville.Today the cultural landscape of Dessau-Wörlitz encompasses an area of 142 km2 within the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt.
