Berijam Lake (Kodaikanal) - A Beautiful and a Must visit Place unexplored by many people
Berijam Lake is a reservoir near Kodaikanal town in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, South India. It is at the old site of Fort Hamilton, in the upper Palani hills. Periyakulam town, 18.7 kilometres (11.6 mi) to the SE, gets its public drinking water from the lake. The lake’s water quality is excellent.
The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has restricted entry into the Berijam Lake area to between 9.30 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the general public. Entry permits are issued at the Forestry Department Office in Kodaikanal. Only a limited number of visitors are allowed in the park each day. There is a forest check–post which prohibits unauthorized entry through the road leading to Berijam Lake.
There was originally a swamp here known as the Berijam swamp.The previous existence here of a large lake, evidence of which was visible nearby, was first recorded in 1864 by Colonel Douglas Hamilton of the 21st Regiment of the Madras Native Infantry.

#Berijam_Lake is located in protected forest area in #Kodaikanal.
One can visit the lake after getting permission from the forest officer of Kodaikanal on the same day of visit. But permission of private vehicles in limited and its first come first serve basis, so go early in the morning and get the permission. The cost is Rs.200 per car, and Rs. 300 per van.
The forest department also runs mini bus for the visit.
On the way to Berijam Lake, one can visit the Silent Valley Point and Berijam Lake view point.
Berijam Lake is a beautiful place to spend a day time.

The lake with its refreshing setting and lush greenery around makes for an amazing picnic spot. Reaching the lake is not a difficult task as it is connected by a well-tarred road. However, one requires a forest pass for entering the area. You can easily get the passes from District Forest Office which provides free passes to the tourists. If interested in fishing, one can indulge in the activity after seeking fishing permission from the Fisheries Department. Apart from all this, if interested, one can go for boat trip and experience the beaut around in a much better way. There is also a 100 year old -story brick building in Berijam which also makes for interesting sightseeing.

Berijam Lake is one of the most beautiful lake. It is located at Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, South India near to the end of Pillar Rocks Road. You may often see wild animals in this region right from bison to elephants and rarely tigers, leopards. You need entry permits from the forest department in order to visit the Berijam Lake. It has been studied that the lake sediments has pollen deposits of about 20,000 years.

This unique star shaped lake is a man made creation located in the Kodaikanal city in Dindigul district in Tamil Nadu, India. Sir Vere Henry Levinge, the then Collector of Madurai, was instrumental in creating the lake in 1863, amidst the Kodaikanal town which was developed by the British and early missionaries from USA. Pillar Rocks: Located 8 Kms away from the lake, Pillar rocks constitutes of three granite boulders and each of a height of 400 feet standing shoulder to shoulder. It also makes for an interesting picnic spot. The chamber between the two pillars is called Devil's kitchen.

1:Silent valley: Silent Valley View is located in close proximity to the Pillar rock garden in Kodaikanal. The point is famous for proffering some astounding and stunning views of the Silent Valley. The Silent Valley view is another important and attractive place that should not be missed by any nature enthusiast. It is situated at a little distance from the Pillar Rock and is seen on the Berijam lake road and the breathtaking view of this valley will be soothing to the eyes.The panoramic view of this place will make the tourists to spend a lot of time watching the scenic beauty. Children visiting this place has to be taken care by their parents as the valley is very deep and will at its very best when viewed between early mornings and late afternoons.
2 Berijam lake view point: It gives an amazing view of Berijam lake from the top, if there are no clouds on the day you visit this place. Its a place very near to silent valley. A View of the most beautiful lake in South India.
3: Berijam lake: Berijam Lake is protected by Forest laws and the immensely beautiful forest. Tourists need special permission from the forest office in Kodaikanal to go there. It is better to be an early bird to get the permission, as the forest office closes by 11:30 am. Tourists are allowed to stay in Berijam till the evening. This viewpoint is 19 KMs from Kodaikkanal Lake.
4: Medicine Forest view point: This Medicine Forest has a certain species of trees whose fragrance is believed to have hallucinogenic effects
5: Caps Fly valley: A steep valley in between two mountains and the air current here lifts the objects thrown in the valley. Objects thrown here come back like the boomerang or the frisbee due to the air currents. It is fun to watch.
