Welcome to San Salvador, the capital and the most populous city of El Salvador!
Being the country's political and cultural center, it takes up one-third of El Salvador's population and one-half of the country's wealth. The majority of the country‘s corporations are located in the city and that being said, it is a very important financial hub of Central America. With its wide boulevards and narrow streets, roadside stalls, churches, museums, exciting nightlife, it can be described as a modern and hectic city.
All year round, the weather is hot, being around 27 °C, and the coolest period of about 22.2 °C lasts from November to February. Except for its weather, San Salvador is also praised for its perfect location. It has proximity to both the ocean and mountains.
We stayed at María José Suites which was in a really really nice location. It is close to the San Salvador Bicentennial Park and the nearest airport.
El Salvador has a reputation for being dangerous. We felt safe the whole time we were there. We took Uber to get around and visited all the highlights in the downtown area of San Salvador.

Martyrs Mass
Loyola University Chicago is honored to host Jon Sobrino, S.J., for a series of events commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Salvadoran martyrs. Father Sobrino will join us on Thursday, November 20 and Friday, November 21, at our Lake Shore Campus in Rogers Park.
Father Sobrino, a Jesuit theologian known for his work in liberation theology, was traveling abroad when members of the military broke into the rectory at the University of Central America and brutally murdered six of his fellow Jesuits, their housekeeper, and her 15-year old daughter.
During his visit, the Loyola community will honor Father Sobrino with an honorary degree, commemorate the eight martyrs, and discuss the future of Jesuit higher education worldwide. On Sunday, November 16, at the conclusion of the 10:30 a.m. Mass, the new Madonna della Strada Chapel bells will also ring for the first time to commemorate the anniversary of the martyrdom.
