Canmore, Alberta ???? | Surrounded by mountains
#canmore #alberta #igtv
Headed out to Alberta for some training shows. My week was jam packed with work again but we managed to head up to the mountains once for dinner. Here in Canmore is where I found a small argument for IGTV since the town is surrounded by mountains but I still prefer to consume my video in widescreen.

ALBERTA ADVENTURES: GROTTO CANYON // CANMORE
Grotto Canyon is an easy hike, both in summer and winter. Make sure when you're hiking in winter to bring ice cleats to get the full experience to go see cave. You walk between the 50 ft narrow canyon walls and at the end you see waterfalls, making it a worthwhile excursion. You can also find ancient pictographs painted on the canyon walls, which is really cool.

The 10 Best Places To Live In The Alberta | Canada
Are you considering a move to a new Canadian city to make a better life?
Alberta is a province in Western Canada. Its landscape encompasses mountains, prairies, desert badlands, and vast coniferous forests.
It is Canada's fourth-most populous province and the most populous of Canada's three prairie provinces.
Alberta has more than 600 lakes and rich mineral deposits. In the west, the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks have glaciers in the Columbia Icefields.
The Waterton Glacier International Peace Park is a biosphere reserve that straddles the southern border with the USA.
You can find several smaller towns and cities that are perfect for raising a family, finding a good job, or simply enjoying a quiet retirement.
Over the last five years, the province of Alberta has seen it’s population skyrocket due to people coming to the province to find work.
With its scenic beauty, no provincial tax, and higher average wages anywhere in the country, Alberta offers a high quality of life that’s hard to find elsewhere.
We’ve taken a look at some statistics and compiled a list of the 10 best places to live in Alberta:
10. Banff.
9. Lethbridge.
8. Camrose.
7. Jasper.
6. Medicine Hat.
5. Canmore.
4. Strathcona County.
3. Calgary.
2. Edmonton.
1. St. Albert.

Railfanning the CP Laggan Sub (Canmore, Banff, Kicking Horse Pass)
On my way back to the U.S. from Japan, I dropped by Canada and I got to railfan the scenic Canadian Pacific Laggan Sub! I had such a great time there, as I got to catch several CP trains and a Rocky Mountaineer at a few locations along this scenic line! I haven't seen any CP powers since last year July, but finally I get to catch some for the first time in 2016! Enjoy!
6/20/16
A very short one gondola CP local heads east through Canmore with a pair of ECOs, which makes it my first CP EMD leader!
CP GP20C-ECO #2323
CP GP22ECO #2231
1:01 After waiting for another hour, CP 112, an intermodal/autorack mix from Vancouver to Montreal, heads east through Canmore with an interesting consist running 2x1x1!
CP ES44AC #8842
CP ES44AC #8837
CP AC4400CW #9714 (mid-train DPU)
CP AC4400CW #9775 (DPU)
6/21/16
4:36 CP 112 heads east through Banff running 2x1x0!
CP ES44AC #8777 - 1st gen K5HL
CP AC4400CW #8624
CP AC4400CW #9727 (mid-train DPU)
7:19 After CP 112 passed, moments later, it was followed by an eastbound Rocky Mountaineer train arriving into Banff station! I was lucky enough to catch this one, cause this was my only opportunity to catch that since I was in the scenic part of Canada.
RMRX GP40-2LW #8011 - Sick older K3
RMRX GP40-2R #8016
RMRX GP40-2R #8018
9:42 After the Rocky Mountaineer passed, I was told from a photographer that CP 199 was the next train, so I waited for another hour to make the catch. CP 199 running 1x1 heads west through Banff. This is also my 2nd time to catch CP 8811 leading too (I remember catching CP 8811 leading a SB BNSF manifest through Rosenberg on November 2013 before)!
CP ES44AC #8811 - 1st gen K5HL
CP ES44AC #8724 (DPU)
6/22/16
13:35 Just west past Lake Louise, a westbound CP potash train running 2x1x1 battles the grade as it approaches the eastern end of Kicking Horse Pass with my 2nd CP cab numberboard GEVO on the lead! The trailing unit and the DPU sure were smoking on this one, and I even got some horns on the lead unit too!
CP ES44AC #8909 - 3rd gen K5HL
CP AC4400CW #8579
CP AC4400CW #9784 (mid-train DPU)

Nordegg to Banff National Park Road Trip | Journey Alberta
In this video I journey from Nordegg to Banff National Park, stopping at a bunch of roadside turnoffs to take in the sights along this scenic area. First, I go to Crescent Falls, close to Nordegg, and admire the large waterfall. From there we head down the David Thompson Highway past Abraham Lake where we stop to admire this big body of water. Next we enter Banff National Park, and stop at one of the Waterfowl Lakes. Afterwards we move further down the Icefields Parkway Highway and see Peyto Lake and Bow Lake. Our last stop along the highway is at the viewpoint for the Crowfoot Glacier!

SUMMARY OF TRAVEL TIPS
1) Calgary Stampede
In June, head to the Calgary Stampede. Visit Value Village to get inexpensive cowboy/girl clothes to wear and get stuck in. Throughout the summer there are other rodeos too that you can visit. These are also great and you get even closer to the action.
2) Get out to the Rocky Mountains, go and see Banff & Canmore. These places are packed with beautiful mountain views and great activities. Either rent a car or use the inexpensive busses that travel between all the big locations in the area.
3) Go and watch a Calgary Flames game. The atmosphere at one of these games is electric. If you want to save money on tickets, go on Kijiji or to a local Co-op store in Calgary.
4) Calgary is packed with great places to eat and drink. Go to National on 8th for a great patio in the summer. Visit Kensington for a more hipster alternative vibe. Make sure you try a Caesar but be careful, sometimes they are pretty spicy!
5) Go visit the Badlands! The nature here is really unusual and the ground is packed with ancient remains. Make sure to go the Royal Tyrrell Museum and see some of the best dinosaur remains on the planet!
Calgary is a relatively modern city. In its centre you can find beautiful parks within the midst of huge skyscrapers. Because Calgary is such a modern metropolis, you have to put effort in to finding the Calgary’s hidden gems of culture and history.
