Fallen City - Big Horn Mountains, Wyoming. It only makes sense that if you drive up a mountain to 9,000 ft then you will have to come down the other side. Absolutely Beautiful....

Getting high in Wyoming.. How high? More than 9,000 ft elevation..
Wyoming is unbelievable, spectacular beauty abounds but sadly there is also unimaginable devastation caused by the pine beetle in the high forests.

Battle of the Little Bighorn
The Battle of the Little Bighorn, commonly referred to as Custer's Last Stand, was an armed engagement between combined forces of the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes, against the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army. The battle, which occurred on June 25--26, 1876, near the Little Bighorn River in eastern Montana Territory, was the most prominent action of the Great Sioux War of 1876. It was an overwhelming victory for the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho, led by several major war leaders, including Crazy Horse and Chief Gall, inspired by the visions of Sitting Bull . The U.S. 7th Cavalry, including the Custer Battalion, a force of 700 men led by George Armstrong Custer, suffered a severe defeat. Five of the 7th Cavalry's companies were annihilated; Custer was killed, as were two of his brothers, a nephew, and a brother-in-law. The total U.S. casualty count, including scouts, was 268 dead and 55 injured.

Reliving Custer's Last Stand at the Little Bighorn
In 1876 George Armstrong Custer - the brave, reckless and vain Civil War hero - met an ignoble end at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. And every year, re-enactors in Montana recreate the clash between the 7th Cavalry Regiment and Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne warriors. Mo Rocca visits the Little Bighorn National Park, and talks with historian Nathaniel Philbrick about the soldier most remembered for his darkest hour.

Wyoming Travels - Sights and Sounds
Here are some sights and sounds from our Travels in Wyoming. Going through the Big Horn Mountains was spectacular. We did experience a lot of the smoke from the Colorado fires on the Southeastern side of the Big Horn Mountains but once we went over the Mountains it cleared up as you can see in the video.
The Cattle Ranchers we ran into on the roadway was quite interesting. The speed limit on the road was 70 MPH on a two lane roadway and these guys were hearding them right down the roadway. There were fences on each side of the road also so they were kind of out there for quite sometime considering there isn't much out there and Ranchs were far in between them..
Cody Cowboy Village was our place to stay for the night. It was a great place to stay, very nice rooms and friendly people. We rode for hours without seeing much of anything and then all of the sudden you run across Cody, Wyoming and you wouldn't believe the people!
Sorry if the video is a little shaky in places, the mountain roads are the smoothest :-)

The Death of Buffalo Bill; or, the End of an Era
The Death of Buffalo Bill; or, the End of an Era
On January 10, 1917, 103 years ago this week, William F. Buffalo Bill Cody died.
His life took him from message delivery boy for the parent company of the Pony Express to jayhawker, Union soldier, hotel owner, buffalo hunter, and scout. He was the fictional hero of a series of dime novels written by Ned Buntline, who convinced Cody and his friend and fellow scout John Texas Jack Omohundro to join him on a stage tour called The Scouts of the Prairie in the winter of 1872. From the moment he rose to prominence in 1869 until his death nearly fifty years later, Bill Cody exemplified and embodied the American West.
Though initially referred to as a melodrama or a blood and thunder production, his initial play with Texas Jack was the very first Western, the antecedent of the many plays, movies, and shows that would follow. The following season, Cody and Omohundro parted ways with Ned Buntline and added to their dramatic company their mutual friend James Wild Bill Hickok, though his refusal to take his dramatic career as seriously as Cody did lead to his departure from the stage before the end of a full season. Cody and Omohundro spent the next several years touring together in the winter and hunting together in the summer, before General Custer's death at the Little Bighorn sent both men to Montana to once again serve as scouts under the auspices of the United States Army. They parted dramatic ways after their tour of 1876 but remained friends until Texas Jack's death in Leadville, Colorado in 1880.
After a few more years touring stages, Cody began what he came to call his Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World. Touring the nation by train, Cody brought the West to all of America, planting his version of the American frontier indelibly into the minds of citizens in the more than 1,400 cities the show visited. Traveling to Europe, Cody became the first American superstar, perhaps the most well-known man in the world by the end of his life. Throughout this time he extolled and showed to the world the virtues of the cowboy first by his old friend Texas Jack and now by the cadre of entertainers in his entourage.
In late 1916, Cody traveled to Glenwood Springs to recuperate from a bronchial infection. Realizing that his health was not improving, Cody boarded a train to Denver to return to his family, making a stop at the Leadville station on January 6th, 1917. As the train pulled in, he told his nurse about his old friend Texas Jack, buried across town. Not well enough to leave the train due to his declining health, Cody was unable to walk across town to Evergreen Cemetery and the grave he had generously erected for his friend. As the train pulled out of the station, Cody waved goodbye for the last time to the people of Leadville and to his old pard Texas Jack.
Four days later, Buffalo Bill was dead.
If you have never taken the opportunity, I urge you to visit the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming and the Buffalo Bill Grave and Museum on Lookout Mountain, Colorado. The lasting legacy of the man is immense.
This is the last picture of William F. Cody, known to the world as Buffalo Bill, taken as he left Glenwood Springs the week before his death.
Patti Fiasco - I should know (Live) What Fest - Cody, Wyoming (By Levi Wells)
What Fest - Cody, Wyoming (By Levi Wells - Audio By Will Ross)
The Patti Fiasco formed in November of 2008 when five strangers, born to wolves and raised by outlaws, congregated over amber shots of whiskey in Laramie, Wyoming's infamous, Buckhorn Bar. The five drew dollars like pistols from their pockets (Alysia, from a holstered skirt), and drowned their libations in strange synchronization. Coincidence has denied responsibility for the band's formation, and instead points a crooked finger at Fate. Since, they've been composing original tunes as restless, wild, and sweet-hearted as their respective histories, all the while touring across the Wild West. Backed by demand from their steadfast local following, The Patti Fiasco's five song demo, No Bridges, will be released this Spring. The Wyoming quintet, featuring Encampment's Alysia Kraft, vocals, guitar; Star Valley's Dee Tyler, vocals, lead guitar; Lander's Scott Clabby, drums; Cheyenne's Niles Mishke, bass; is known for making crowds shake a leg and shake a room with their moon howling, fast riding, train robbing tunes. The Patti Fiasco is the wild-eyed love child of Loretta Lynn and the Sundance Kid... or are they more like Alice Cooper after a good piece of cake? Though their swagger is decidedly Western, their music is not so simply nailed down. Kraft marries the lyric sensibility of a seasoned folk singer with the intensity and showmanship of hair metal at its meanest. Tyler drives sweet-hearted melodies like runaway trucks. If your songs were your children, you'd want them growing up with drummer, Scott Clabby-- each one handled with diligence, sensitivity, and fun, feisty wit. Bassist Niles Mishke, the envy of any band demanding both versatility and flair, never leaves the funk at home. Frequent appearances by lap steel virtuoso Ansel Foxley (Lonesome Traveler, Glovetrucker), and showcase banjo from long-time friend Dennis 'Abe' Abramson round off the listening delight. Regardless of classification, The Patti Fiasco is damn fine band boasting a unique sound and live performances that expertly balance intimacy and explosion. Get 'em while they're hot, or wait a second until they're burning down the house.
The History of Cody's Frost and Richard Families
A partnership between the Frost and Richard families was underway in the early 1900s, and Wyoming Chronicle, with the help of the Park County Archives, interviews family members who tell again the early 1900s stories of the Cody area and Frost and Richard families.

Buffalo Bill Murders Texas Jack; or, Don't Believe Everything You Read In The Papers
Buffalo Bill Murders Texas Jack; or, Don't Believe Everything You Read In The Papers
On December 22nd, 1873, just a year after they became theatre stars with the premiere their play The Scouts of the Prairie, Buffalo Bill Cody shot and killed his best friend and long-time partner Texas Jack Omohundro after an argument in Kentucky.
Or at least, that is what newspapers across the country said throughout January of 1874. In an article entitled Texas Jack Killed, the Port Jervis, New York, Gazette reported that Buffalo Bill and Texas Jack got into an altercation, during which the former shot and killed the later. The news must have come as a shock to Bill and Jack, who were performing at Baltimore's Maryland Institute on December 22nd, as well as Christmas and throughout the following week.
A newspaper in Hartford, Connecticut, openly questioned why, if Texas Jack was dead and Buffalo Bill was his murderer, the two were scheduled to appear at that city's Opera House on January 13th and 14th.
Eventually, newspapers were corrected by letters from Buffalo Bill explaining that was no murderer, and from Texas Jack explaining that he was very much alive. Despite this, rumors of the shooting were wide-spread, and many people in Boston were shocked to see reported murderer Buffalo Bill, his victim Texas Jack, and their friend Wild Bill Hickok walking the streets on the way to see a play about Tennessee pioneer Davy Crockett. Eventually, corrections were printed, with many reporters complaining that they were now forced to toss aside long columns they had already written about the life of Texas Jack Omohundro and his killer Buffalo Bill Cody.
Despite numerous reports of their deaths at the hands of charging buffalo, hungry bear, Sioux warrior, or each other, both men were very much alive and continued to perform together for two more years before the pursuit of Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse in the wake of Custer's defeat at Little Bighorn sent them into harm's way once again.

Bike Free in WYOMING - Ten Sleep to Cody
ABOUT BIKE FREE
Pedaling more than 5,000 miles from Maryland's Chesapeake Bay to the California coast, bicyclists Paul Lebelle and Adam Burkowske have joined the
movement to share the goodness of cycling with kids -- specifically, the kids of our military families.
Paul and Adam started Bike Free (bikefree.org), a non-profit charity, whose goal is to get 1,000 bikes and helmets to military kids.
The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have taken a heavy toll on kids growing up in military families. Parents come back wounded or don't come back at all. Kids are also facing parents' multiple deployments, says Adam.
We know that being outside in the fresh air, sunshine, and having physical activity is not only good for your health, but also raises your spirit, says Paul.
Both Paul and Adam's families have military backgrounds. Adam's brother served on the USS George Washington and is now stationed in San Diego. One of Paul's grandfathers graduated from the Naval Academy and captained submarines. Paul's other grandfather was former NY Giants Kyle Rote whose older brother, Jack, sacrificed his life at Iwo Jima and received the Purple Heart.
Military kids are the forgotten victims of war. Bringing the joy, freedom, and fun of riding a bicycle to these kids is what Bike Free is all about.
For further information or to help support their mission, Paul and Adam can be reached through the Bike Free website, bikefree.org.
