Expert guide to Hydra
A whaleback ridge looming from the sea, Hydra shot to fame in 1956 as the location for A Girl in Black, directed by Michael Cacoyannis, with an extra filip in 1957 for hosting Boy on a Dolphin, starring Sophia Loren.
Soon various foreign personalities (including Leonard Cohen) bought and restored property here, joining prominent Greeks who had long appreciated the island’s charms. Sumptuous mansions and humbler vernacular homes arrayed amphitheatrically around the marble-quayed harbour date from the 18th and 19th centuries, when Hydriot seafaring prowess brought great wealth. Despite its high-profile reputation, and the mid-day arrival of “One-Day Saronic Cruises”, the island remains endearingly time-warped: as a listed architectural reserve, all new construction is banned, and the town remains blissfully free of motor vehicles except for two small fire trucks and a few miniature rubbish trucks – photogenic donkeys (or mules) do most haulage.

Hydra Island, Greece: what an amazing place. check this out!!!
Just 37 nautical miles from Athens in the Argo-Saronic Gulf, the long, narrow island of Hydra (or Ydra) is both cosmopolitan and tranquil. Donkeys and boats are the only form of transport as laws prohibit automobiles (except for a few small garbage trucks), mopeds, and even bicycles. Due to the island’s status as a national historic monument, strict building laws also regulate development, protecting Hydra’s traditional architectural style and enhancing its old-world charm.

Greece - private beach on Hydra
Greek Islands - Aegina Island, Moni Island and Sotos Beach Bar
Season 2 Episode 2 - Greek ferries are kind of expensive. We had plans to go to Milos and Sifnos islands but the return ferry costs would have been over $500AUD.
As Pete still had 33 stitches in his feet and was still pretty restricted in what he could do, we decided to visit Aegina Island just an hour (and only 8 Euro each) from Athens... and we're glad we did.
The water here is next level blue, and the small town of AG Marina on the east coast was a great base.
We chill at Sotos Grotto Beach Bar, which is awesome, and hire a tough as Fiat Panda to explore the rest of the island and Moni Island, home to peacocks, goats and deer, the Moni Island Big 3.

33. Sailing to Castles, Mythical Caves and Iconic Beaches | South Peloponnese | Sailing Greece
This week on Kawai we leave the Ionian Island of Zakynthos and sail to the Greece main land. We sail to Katakolon where we catch the train to Olympia, the birth place to the Olympic Games. Trace relives the spirit of the ancient games and beats me in a sprinting race.
We then set sail and head further south into the Peloponnese visiting Pylos and Navarino Bay where we check out the old fort of Navarino and one of Greece's iconic beaches, Voidikoilia Beach. During our hike we stumble across Nestor's cave, where Greek God Hermes was said to have hid the 50 cattle he stole from Apollo.
We also have a low key celebration for when we first met 19 years ago and have a beer at the local beach bar. This is just the beginning of our sail around the Southern Peloponnese and we have loved it so far.
Next week we visit Methoni, Kalamata and many more beautiful locations.
About us:
Our names are Jason and Tracey and we traded our house, cars, business, job and security for freedom, adventure, travel and living simply amongst nature and the seas on our 45 foot Hanse 445 sailing boat, Kawai.
We don't know exactly where the winds will take us at this stage but over the next year we hope to sail to Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia.
Jase loves making travel videos and we decided to upload to youtube to share our adventure. We really hope you enjoy and feel free to drop us a comment any time to chat or subscribe to follow along :)

MILOS ISLAND, GREECE | The BEST Beach you HAVE to see!!
With our second day in Milos, we found the BEST beach the island has to offer! It's like you're walking on the moon at Sarakiniko beach!
While visiting Milos, you really need to do 2 main things... 1. Spend a day on a boat tour exploring the hidden beaches all around the island by water. 2. Explore the beaches by land and see Sarakinoko beach and Papafragas beach. From there, you can get up to Pollonia and Plaka for some more sunsets and exploring.... but the beaches and boat tours are the main draw.
Today, we go over the best beach -- Sarakiniko, which is a MUST see while you visit with your Milos Greece Itinerary. How to travel milos is pretty straight forward - you either need a car or have to book taxis to get around on the island (or use a scooter, etc.).
Milos is one of the most beautiful greek island, with the most amazing landscapes. It's still relatively undiscovered, so be sure to include it in your Milos Greece itinerary!!
Check back for our next adventure -- Santorini! And also to hear about the food poisoning we got that knocked us out for a few days.... Stay tuned.
