Black Hill Reserve (Kyneton)
Full review at
A Granite Planet. Imaginative Rockshapes within Blackhill reserve. Kyneton, Victoria.
A granite planet is an imaginative video and photographic expose' as seen from a camera obscura, of many Devonian Granite rock boulders that are all within a short bush walk around Australia's Black hill reserve. . A menagerie of monoliths. A nature reserve known for it's wild flowers, moulded moss covered rocks, Australian wildlife and unfortunately to a lesser extent, the Jajawurrong aboriginal family tribes, that lived in these hills pre colonial settlement. Special thanks to the indigenous people that relate to this land. Their dreamtime is as solid as stone, as is felt by anyone walking on their lands, if they listen and look with the appropriate perspective and respect. A Granite Planet uses photographs from the 1997 self published A Conundrum in Kin Town. A booklet with poetic verse, to suggest the identifying shape and ask the question, where are they? The word play of Kin Town taken from the local town of Kyneton, the question of where is the Rock shape masks the real question, where is the local indigenous family tribe that lived on what is now known as Black Hill, a nature reserve. This Natural wonderland or Rock theme park. comes to life, in the same way Cloud shapes can look like things. The first being the Granite planet with an impression of the West coast of West Australia in the correct geographical area of the earth, on the perfect rounded planet eclipsed slightly by another. We then see a whale and calf beside her as they turn to the horizon. A Shark just like the image of Jaws known from the Movie of the same name, as it attacks from the depths. Many Dinosaur shapes such as T Rex, an Elephant, a snake head, a Koala Rock, tadpole, frog, rocker ducky, rock woodpecker, many bird shapes and faces of critters. Laurel and Hardy stood back to back, Elvis rock, Bart Simpson rock, Mr Men, a Rock ape, a rock kiss or necking of the nape, as I call it and many more notably, Mother Nature herself, all with identifiable eyes noses and facial features. Not to forget the Bum and Bust, complete with backbone arch of the back. Ending with a natural fallen tombstone.
Rocks that look like things pending on your imagination and point of view. Unlike the sculptured stone rocks of Easter island, or the Black hills of Mount Rushmore, the rock shapes of A Granite Planet Blackhill reserve, sculpted only from thousands of years and imagination, invoking amazement and thought of the indigenous Dream Time mixed with contemporary images. A walk in the bush becomes a Magical experience and truly wonderful as if we are on the Mars exploration Rover, where rocks are named by shape. How can so many rocks in such a small area, offer such dreaming.
This place should be as famous as Uluru, Ayer's rock. or at least other rock reknowned geological locations. This outcrop is not far from the Hanging Rocks of Mount Macedon, famous from the movie, a picnic at hanging rock, where several school girls mysteriously disappeared in the 18th century. Thus again, a special thanks to the Jajawurrong tribes that have also unfortunately disappeared, in less mysterious circumstance.
Mostly this video will be seen as folly and fun and appreciated by those keen on nature with a creative and imaginative aspect.

Bolgart - Western Australia
Bolgart is a small town that depends mostly on wheat and sheep farming for its survival.
The local hotel was one of 6 state hotels that were built. The pub has been restored and features the original jarrah bar and floorboards.
Settlement dates from the 1840s when J. Scully took up land and the first farm to be settled in this area was near Bolgart. Bolgart Hotel was built in 1916 and the town site was gazetted in 1909.
The town is built near a spring (that G. F. Moore discovered in 1836) and derives it's name from the Aboriginal word 'bullgert', meaning magic swamp place. (Other sources quote the less romantic 'place of water' and the even worse 'magic bog'.) Moore wrote that the area was a tract of several acres of rich ground covered with active springs, the grass rich and green.

Day trip to Trentham & Turpins Falls
G'day guys! Today, a short video on two waterfalls not too far from Melbourne, VIC. These are both worth a visit, and are easy to get to in any vehicle, and easy to access. Trentham Falls has picnic tables and toilets as well as well formed steps, and even a ramped path for easy access. Turpins Falls is pretty basic, and a bit further to walk, but definately worth the visit. Both falls offer a very different landscape, and are both well worth the visit.
