Mercer prophetically said that Corralejo would long be simply a spreading building site, dominated by concrete mixers, lorries, floating discarded cement bags, falling rubble and staring whistling oafs. Many British and Irish tourists fell in love with the resort and felt happy to relocate there permanently. Here’s the report if you missed it..
We made our way around the tranquil bay and past the Mullet filled harbour as the magic evening hours approached.
The wind was up and the waves where battering the rocks as we approached, this was a good sign that the big predators maybe there.
I waited a while assessing the danger zone and tied on a 40lb leader to try a 30gr sinking minnow which replicated the local BOGA bait-fish to perfection.
With a strong wind against tide I struggled even with the extra weighted lure to fish correctly and now the swells where getting bigger.
Desperate to carry on I made the decision to move a hundred yards right to a point of rocks with a small bay sheltered with the wind at my back giving me more options.
After a fruitless 20 minutes it was time for a different approach so a heavy float rig was sent out using a 75pound fluorocarbon leader and a size 6/0 hook with a big chunk of fresh Bonito bound on with elastic with the silver skin reflecting nicely. The float was set at 3 metres and stared at the float in anticipation.
Twenty minutes past and no enquiries, I looked behind me as the sun was quiet low so, I figured this was the time for a fresh chunk of Bonito.
I cast out again and waited, your mind can play tricks on you when float fishing in heavy seas but 10 minutes later, I glanced up and the float dipped and stayed under for a few seconds. I alerted my camera woman to start rolling and we stared at the bobbing float hearts racing.
I was just thinking about checking my bait when boom the reel started to scream. I shouted start filming and no sooner as the camera was on the fish let go after a searing run and dragging 20 yards of braid through the sliding float. I wound in a completely shredded bait GUTTED!
An even bigger chunk of Bonito was whipped on and sent out quickly as the bite was on, this time I cut up more smaller chunks of bait and chummed the area right by my float. Bonito
Is regarded a top bait very oily dark meat and this I believe made the difference as within a couple of minutes I had interest!
At this point I handed the spinning rod over to cheeky girl, loosened the drag and said hold this while I cut some more chum bait and don’t let go whatever happens!
Well as I was washing my hands, I heard the Yuki salt reel scream into action and looked up to see my girl in complete shock holding the flat lined rod shouting TAKE IT TAKE IT!
The video was running after the first powerful run and it was my turn to shine, this was a different fight to the mental speed of the Bonito a bit more dogged with direction changes. I was then treated to some serious acrobatics as the fish somersaulted a metre out of the water. At this point I could see it was a decent Bluefish and preyed the Flurocarbon leader wouldn’t get shredded with the twisting and fast turning fish.
I played the fish with a hard drag and managed to keep her in the surface layers. At this point I was worried about the overhanging rock, I was on with a depth of 10 metres, the beast slowly cane towards the rock face and this was the danger zone! All I could do was hold the rod as high as possible and bully the beast from diving, the plan seemed to be working so now I frantically looked for my landing point and carefully clambered along to my right on the slippery rocks.
Both hands firmly in control of the high held rod. I played her out and saw my chance, obviously a landing net would of been easier but that was in England! I pulled the big Bluefish into the diagonal rocks and paused holding her with the line whilst the swell dropped out. Seconds later the swell returned up the rock face and and went for the confident lift WHOOHOO SHE WAS MINE!
Absolutely buzzing, I grabbed her carefully and got her up to safety.
Luckily the hook was firmly in the lip and I had avoided the line busting teeth, a few pictures and I got the powerful stunning fish back in the water and off she went like a rocket.
What an experience another great capture and this time on video YES!
I wouldn’t of done it without the support of my cheeky girl who has given up precious holiday hours to make this video possible. It’s not easy filming these special moments and I’m over the moon and couldn’t be happier with the trip to Fuertiventura. THINGS TO DO IN FUERTEVENTURA, CAMEL RIDES IN FUERTEVENTURA, CANARY ISLANDS, FUERTEVENTURA BEACH, CORRALEJO, Fuerteventura, the second largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, sits in the Atlantic Ocean 100km off the north coast of Africa. It’s known primarily as a holiday destination due to its white-sand beaches and year-round warmth cooled by constant winds. The multitude of beaches that wrap around it are interrupted by cliffs and sheltered coves. It's popular for water sports, especially surfing, windsurfing and waterskiing. There is a theory, although for many a legend, which says that the Canary Islands, among which of course is Fuerteventura were part of the lost civilization of Atlantis. Fuerteventura was chosen among 500 European destinations by the Quality Coast International Certification Program of the European Coastal and Marine Union as one of the most attractive tourist destinations for visitors interested in cultural heritage, environment and sustainability. The climate on Fuerteventura is pleasant throughout the year. The island is hence referred to as the island of eternal spring. The sea regulates air temperature, diverting hot Sahara winds away from the island. The island's name in English translates as strong fortune or strong wind, the Spanish word for wind being viento. During the winter months, temperatures average a high of 22 °C (72 °F) and a low of around 15 °C (59 °F), whereas during the summer a mean high of 28 °C (82 °F) and a low of 20 °C (68 °F) can be expected. Precipitation is about 147 mm (6 in) per year, most of which falls in autumn and winter. December is the month with highest rainfall.
A sandstorm known as the Calima (similar to the Sirocco wind, which blows to the North of the Sahara, to Europe) may blow from the Sahara Desert to the Northwest, and can cause high temperatures, low visibility and drying air. Temperatures during this phenomenon rise temporarily by approximately 10 degrees Celsius. The wind brings in fine red dust, The fine white sand is not blown in from Sahara, It is made up of dead coral reef and local seabed upheaval. visibility can drop to between 100 to 200 m (328.08 to 656.17 ft) or even lower and can even bring African locusts to the island. The cuisine is fairly basic due to the customs and climate conditions. They share this simplicity with the other Canary islands, and similarly to them, they use a large quantity of fish. They also use whatever they can grow in the near-barren land. This includes papas arrugadas, a dish of wrinkled potatoes usually served with mojo, which is a hot pepper sauce or with puchero canario, a meat stew.
Seafood is prepared in many ways traditionally, such as pejines (salted fish),[29] jareas,[30] or sancocho (a type of stew) made from fish, generally the grouper,[31] corvina or sama, boiled after salting, and served with mojo, potatoes, or gofio (a type of grain). People are also very keen on the mussels and limpets collected on the island's coasts.
They also use meat such as beef and pork to make different dishes or simply to for braising, but their main meat is goat, both from the kids and from the older animals. They eat the goat roasted or stewed. Goats are not only useful for their meat - the Fuerteventurans also use the milk to make the cheese majorero, which has won many prizes. The majorero is mostly made of goats milk, and occasionally it is up to 15% ewes milk. It is cured in pimento oil or gofio meal. Majorero and palmero cheese are the only two Canarian cheeses with protected denomination of origin. Corralejo is a town on the northeast coast of Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands of Spain. It's known for Corralejo Natural Park, featuring windy, dune-backed beaches like Playa del Moro. The park is home to endangered wildlife and Montaña Roja, a volcano with panoramic views. The town, a former fishing village, is dotted with eateries and bars. Nearby Lobos Island is a nature preserve with rare birds. Thanks to the large expat population, the town has a diverse population that varies from the local Spaniard, to the Irish, British, German and Finnish people who have settled in the resort. The area has 7 miles (11 km) of fine sand starting 2 miles (3.2 km) outside of Corralejo, alongside some smaller bays across the coast. In addition, there are several miles of sand dunes located nearby, which have been designated as a nature reserve. The waters around Corralejo are clear and an intense shade of blue, but are affected by strong currents. The town's beaches are somewhat more sheltered and have a band of volcanic rock along the shoreline. Corralejo is serviced by a bus service (both public and chartered) and by a local taxi service operated by the region of La Oliva. The public bus service (Tiadhe) operates a bus service from the island's capital Puerto del Rosario (number 6), and from Puerto del Rosario to Caleta de Fuste and the Fuerteventura Airport (number 3)

Pozo Negro, Fuerteventura - An ancient fishing village
One of the last lava flows in Fuerteventura occurred in Pozo Negro, millions of years ago, resulting in this black beach. Surrounded in red mountains, the backdrop is simply stunning.
Tourists Join Cliff-Jumping Craze That Kills Dozens Each Year
Cliff diving is a popular activity among tourists but the thrill can come at a price. In 2015 in the U.S. alone, more than two dozen leaps ended in death. We traveled to Jamaica, a popular spot for the stunt, one American suffered a bloody cut to her nose. IE producer Charlie McLravy was recording in the water when a tourist cut their nose. It hit close to home for McLravy. He nearly lost his life in 2009 after leaping off a bridge near Yosemite, California while on vacation with his family.
