Wilderness Bluffs Trail | Pot Lake Loop | Halifax | Subtitles | Nova Scotia | Canada
In this video we are hiking the wilderness bluffs trail, about 20 minutes outside of Halifax (in Timberlea), Nova Scotia, Canada.
We got a group of 9 humans and 1 pooch together to do this hike on a beautiful spring day in May.
There are a series of loops ranging from 8 kms (only doing 1 trail) to 30 kms (doing all 3 trails). We chose the 8k trail!
It was a busy day with lots of people and dogs on the trail. We had a great hike. I hope you also enjoy the hike as well!
This bluffs wilderness trail was quite nice. We are always looking to hike Nova Scotia, and this was an enjoyable trail. As you will see, or saw, this trail had a lot to offer, and is one of the better hiking trails in the Halifax are.
This trail (Pot Lake Loop) gives you wonderful views of Pot Lake from above and alongside the lake.
Hiking in Canada is great as you can see!

Bluff Wilderness Trail, Pot Lake Loop Hike, Halifax NS
Bluff Wilderness Trail can be found on the St Margaret's Bay Rd, out past Lakeside. You can also get there by Bus #21 and #23.
There are 4 Loops here. We hiked the Pot Lake Loop. This was about an 8 km hike in total.
You take the BLT Trail from the parking lot and hike just under a km until you come to the Bluff trail.
There are maps and colored trail markers, but be careful of well worn paths that may lead you astray.
Amazing views, great trails...choose how far you want to go. Bring lots of water.
It's Beautiful here ... Enjoy!

Bluff Wilderness Trail, near Halifax Nova Scotia - Complete circuit
2 day, 1 night, solo hike on the Bluff Wilderness Trail on all four loops (approx. 30km).
May 21 & 22, 2017
This is a wilderness area near the city of Halifax. Leave No Trace principles apply. Pack it in, pack it out. No fires. Keep the place clean and we'll be able to keep using it. Mess it up and we'll eventually lose overnight access.

Bluff Wilderness Trail - Pot Lake - Hiking in Nova Scotia
Nice big 8km hike along a wilderness trail, just minutes outside of Halifax. Decided to attempted the smallest hiking loop in the Bluffs, called Pot Lake loop.
We parked the car at the closest parking lot and walked about 400m to the actual trailhead. We followed the BLT trail where you can either continue to Hubley or downtown Halifax.
The trail was well marked with colour markers, which was a big improvement from the spray painted arrows that were almost impossible to see.
The area is big on Leave no Trace since the trail is along sensitive barrens.
Do bring adequate gear and supplies, cell phone coverage is good, but the area is remote and the only way to help in fast is by helicopter.

The Bluff Wilderness Trail is off the BLT Trail and Parking is at
2890 St Margarets Bay Rd, Timberlea, NS
Today we hiked the Pot Lake Loop and the Indian Hill Loop for a total of 17.5 km.
There was a small amount of snow and slush in spots but otherwise the trail was great. These trails are clearly marked and easy to follow. There are lots of ups and downs and a variety of different terrain.
Its beautiful here, with lakes and streams and stunning views.
Make sure to bring lots to drink and wear good footwear....and do forget, Leave No Trace! :)

Duncan's Cove Hiking Trail - Halifax Nova Scotia Canada
A very beautiful and very popular short hiking trail near Halifax in the small coastal town of Duncan's Cove. This is an non-maintained, unmarked trail that is very well established due to the number of people who hike the trail. I'm a bit chattier on this video than I usually am for some reason.
The most commonly used trail head is at a gated private driveway with a posted no-trespassing sign. The driveway leads up to the Whalesback house where the overland trail begins. If that makes you uncomfortable there are some other trails through the nature reserve (we enter the trail on one of them.)

Hiking Admiral Lake Loop, Musquodoboit Harbour, Nova Scotia Canada
The Admiral Lake look is a 6ish km trail in Musquodoboit Harbour NS. There are two trailheads - located 1.7km and 2.4km North of the Parking lot up the Musquodoboit Trailway.
A short, but fairly rugged hike with great look-offs and a few steep ascents. One of the nicer trails I've walked in the province. While animals were scarce the tremendous variety of lichen and moss made up for the lack.

Liscomb River Trail - Hiking in Nova Scotia
Right before the fall color peak got passed us, decided to take the long drive up the Eastern shore towards Liscomb Lodge to hike a challenging but scenic trail; Liscomb River trail.
While it is a loop trail, the trail has two trailheads. One at the main entrance to the Liscomb Lodge. The other trail head is several hundred meters down the road on the other wise of the river.
We opted to hike to the main money shot of the trail, the suspension bridge and turn back. It still ended up being a 8km hike, but my fur buddy didn't like crossing the bridge.
So starting out from the main parking lot, we hiked behind the cabins onto the trail following the river. the trail is well defined and groomed as we approached the scenic views of crooked falls and the lookout.
Past that point, the trail often looks like a goat path and with the terrain suddenly increasing in difficulty. We crossed a stream via a small footbridge and continued along the river.
There are several pools that allow salmon to spawn up river. It was until the halfway point that we saw the fish ladder on one side and the bridge on the other.
By climbing up to the bridge, we saw the gorge and the fantastic view looking down river. We could have continued the loop, but as expected my fur buddy didn't want to cross the bridge. That's ok, we'll be back.
