Bodegas Carrau Wine Tour
Today was the second attempt at visiting a winery here in Uruguay. Yesterday was not so successful, but today it happened. There was a little confusion at first as the original person who helped book the appointment got sick, which caused us to not be on the front gate's list. The security guard worked hard contacting people and was able to get us in. Unfortunately, I ended up in yet another all Portuguese speaking group so I had no idea what was going on. I wasn't able to film everything, but did get to see the process of how the wine is made and bottled. There are actually two locations of Bodegas Carrau. One location is near Montevideo and the other is north, near the border of Brazil. After the tour we had a nice tasting of five wines. I was a little nervous as this is my first real and professional wine tasting. After the first glass was poured I gulped it, and when I looked around noticed that everyone still had some left, and some even spit it out in a bucket. Oops, but upon further investigation I noticed two guests with their elbows on the table and even saw the, ummm. . . . wine pourer guy stick his finger in a plastic wine cork. I couldn't speak Portuguese or understand what was being communicated, but the body language showed people relaxed. This made me feel a little more comfortable. We ended the tour with handshakes and a glimpse of the wine store where we could buy our Uruguayan wine, before heading back to Montevideo. Bodega Bouza, Uruguay.m4v
A group of us from Herradura went to Bodega Bouza, a nearby vineyard, and had a wonderful tour and tasting. The cheese and bread that came with the tasting was so delicious and complimented the wines, so we were too full for lunch. From the school Beate, David, Michael and I, and then Karin and Natalie also joined us. Marvelous way to spend an afternoon, but book your tour ahead, they have bus tours sometimes!
2011 Montevideo Rural - Familia Moleri
