Life made easier in Nanja Village, Monduli, Arusha, northern Tanzania
This is a story of collaboration between the leading global humanitarian organization CARE International in Tanzania and key partners in addressing water problems in Nanja Village in Monduli - Arusha, one of the driest districts in Tanzania. Here the rains are so scarce that communities would remain dry for the most part of the year. Dry seasons are excruciatingly long and temperatures ruthlessly high.
Tanzania Hot Springs - Maji Moto - Arusha
We recently had a work trip to Tanzania! Naturally, we decided to try and go on an epic adventure and see if Tanzania was dangerous for foreigners. We went to one of our favorite places in East Africa. The hot water springs, Maji Moto, or Kikuletwa Hotsprings (on Google Maps

【タンザニア】マサイ族の村 Tanzanian Maasai tribe in their boma
Maasai people
The Maasai are a Nilotic ethnic group inhabiting northern, central and southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. They are among the best known local populations internationally due to their residence near the many game parks of the African Great Lakes, and their distinctive customs and dress.
The Tanzanian and Kenyan governments have instituted programs to encourage the Maasai to abandon their traditional semi-nomadic lifestyle, but the people have continued their age-old customs. Many Maasai tribes throughout Tanzania and Kenya welcome visits to their villages to experience their culture, traditions, and lifestyle, in return for a fee.
Tanzania natural hot spring (chemka)
I'm a product designer doing volunteer in Tanzania from May - Aug, 2016.
Invited by local people, I went to this hot spring which was one hour away from where I lived (Boma). The water was lukewarm since it was warmed up by the heat coming from the crake of the stone. The cheapest way to get there is taking dala-dala to Boma (1000 shilling from Moshi; 2000 shilling from Arusha) and hire a tuk-tuk (25,000- 30,000 shilling). Ask tuk-tuk to wait at the chemka for 3 hrs. (you probably won't be able to go back if he ditches you)

How Arusha turned to become a hot-spot of attraction
The current site of Arusha was first settled in the 1830s by the agro-pastoral Arusha Maasai from the Arusha Chini community, south of Mount Kilimanjaro. They traded grains, honey, beer, and tobacco with the pastoral Kisongo Maasai in exchange for livestock, milk, meat, and skins. Demand for Arusha's foodstuffs increased substantially during the 1860s when the Pangani Valley trade route was extended through Old Moshi, Arusha, and ultimately to western Kenya. Although it was not yet a town, it was a regional centre and had a number of urban features

Kikuletwa Hotsprings, Bomangombe, Tanzania
This is a hotspring with crystal clear water from underground. It is believed that the water comes all the way from Mt. Kilimanjaro through an underground channel. The pool is deep and only good swimmers get to enjoy well. Divers from the locality also entertain visitors with adrenaline drops from a hanging rope and others from the tree branches!

Tanzania Arusha / Moshi - things to do, Oasis Chemka/Kikuletwa hotsprings
One of the best days of my life. Chemka/Kikuletwa hotsprings (about 27°C): an oasis with a mineral blue hole spring about two hours from Arusha in the middle of nowhere - with a decent current and skin nibbling fishes that feed on your feet and legs when you stay or sit on the edge (but not when you swim); also good for snorkeling
A Tanzanian Maasai tribe's singing and jumping dance in their boma
I was told there are at least 128 different tribes in Tanzania. Most have their own language and customs. The Maasai tribe(s) are known as livestock grazers. The importance or wealth of a Maasai family is determined by the number of animals it has (cows are most prized). A Maasai family lives in a home or enclosure called a boma. The boma provides protection for the animals from carnivores. Adult Maasai men can have more than one wife. There is a hut for each wife in the boma.
The Maasai are known for their unique kind of dance -- they propel themselves straight into the air. One of my primary objectives of this trip in 2013 was to film their dance. To see other Franklin Clay Films produced videos about Tanzania and other subjects go to wxyzvideos.com.

Visit to a Maasai Boma in Tanzania
A group of language teachers who were teaching conversational English at a school for Maasi girls near Monduli were invited to visit the 'boma' (dwelling of an extended family) where some of the school's graduates had grown up. The women of the boma invited the group to share a lunch of rice and beans cooked in one of the wives' huts, and to listen to some of their songs. This movie was compiled from the photos and videos of various members of the teachers' group (June 2008).
