BOLZANO is the provincial capital of South Tyrol, an autonomous province in Italy, seat of the state government. Since 1948 supraregional trade fair location, since 1964 episcopal Diocese of Bolzano-Bressanone, since 1997 with the Free University of Bolzano, university town. Bolzano is one of the major urban centers in the Alpine region and, due to its biculturality, is regarded as an important meeting place between German and Italian-speaking cultures. With over 107,000 inhabitants, Bolzano is the largest city in South Tyrol and the second largest in Tyrol. Foundation of Bolzano starts with the street market settlement - today's Laubengasse - at 1170/1180. A supraregional trading place whose markets were regulated in the year 1202 between the bishops of Bressanone and those of Trent contractually. Due to its favorable traffic situation - Brenner -, Bolzano was able to prevail against Trento, Merano, Gries and Innsbruck and developed into the most important trade center of Tyrol. Bolzano has been a commercial city more than 800 years ago, since its foundation and elevation to the city, conveniently located between the once important commercial hubs of Venice and Augsburg. Bolzano received in 1381 from Duke Leopold III. from Austria the council privilege.South of the medieval city lies Waltherplatz; it is the most distinctive point and the social center of the city. Important buildings in the neibourhood: is the parish church of the Assumption (southern ), on the west side the Palais Menz, the Palais Campofranco and 1912/13 the city hotel and east side the Hotel Greif (building from the 17 - 1800). In 1889, the Walther monument (Walther von der Vogelweide - as an expression of the cultural-national options of German-Latvian citizenship in the late Habsburg monarchy) was built, and this gave the square its present name. Mussolini removed the memorial. In the 1980s, a pedestrian zone was completed. At Waltherplatz an underground car-park was built, and then the Walther von der Vogeweide monument was re-erected in the center of the square; the Maria Himmelfahrt Cathedral is dating back to the 14th century.================

Episcopal and university city of Bolzano - South Tyrol, Italy.
Visit the beautiful city with Piazza Walther von der Vogel pasture. The arcades, famous shopping malls and the narrow streets make Bolzano experience.
Magic of Bolzano: Visit the Cobo. In fact, he called Rino Zullo.
And the Cobo is no ordinary host. What has to start that he has no pub. His guests are at marble tables outside, the fishing banks in the Dr. Streiter street; before there was sold fish, now operates the Cobo to benches around an open-air pub.
