Conversation with Ruskin, Preview at Brantwood, Coniston, UK
2019 is the 200th anniversary of John Ruskin’s birth. An artist, art critique, writer, social thinker, the Oxford professor founded the Ruskin School of Drawing, Ruskin was known as the first critique to find Turner’s innovative painting style and established his name, led the Gothic Revival, provided the ideological foundation for the Pre-Raphaelites and the Arts and Crafts Movement. He was one of the most influential figures in Victorian England. For celebrating his legacy, Japanese artist Hideyuki Sobue has organised his touring solo art project “Conversation with Ruskin” at the Brantwood, where Ruskin chose to live in his later years, and The Ruskin in Lancaster University, the academic centre of Ruskin. This project is supported by Arts Council England.
On 8th August, the preview of this exhibition was held at Brantwood. It was a stunningly beautiful evening with a good number of guests who all enjoyed the event. This is a snapshot video on the evening.

The Haafnetters - The Solway Band
Haafnetting is a norse word for the ancient mwthod of net fishing practised in the Solway Firth. The song is a protest song which tells the story of the fight against 'the authorities' that want haafnet fishing to be discontinued.
The song was written by Terry Croucher, a founder member of The Solway Band, and featured on the 'Haafnetters' album which consisted of songs and tunes about the people and places around Port Carlisle and Bowness on Solway.
