Michigan State Parks 100: Brimley
Brimley State Park is primarily just a campground, but it has a lot of sites, sits right next to Lake Superior, and is located in the northeastern part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, which makes it a good basecamp for day trips to see great places in the U.P.

CRISP POINT LIGHT HOUSE
Crisp Point was one of five Lake Superior U.S. Life-Saving Service Stations along the coast between Munising and Whitefish Point. It is located about fourteen miles west of Whitefish Point. It was built in 1875 and became operational in 1876 as Life Saving Station Number Ten, of the U.S. Life-Saving Service District 10 (it was later part of District 11) . Crisp Point inherited its name from one of the Life Saving Station keepers, an iron-willed boatman named Christopher Crisp. The other four Life-Saving Stations were Vermillion Point (now Vermilion), Two Heart River, Deer Park (formerly Sucker River Station and Muskallonge Lake Station) and Grand Marais.
Crisp Point Lighthouse was first proprosed in 1896 and every year thereafter until finally approved in June of 1902. The land was purchased--fifteen acres--at a price of $30.00. The deed was dated May 21, 1903.
Unexplainable UFO sighting leaves stargazers in awe | New York Post
It's not a bird, and it's certainly not a plane, so what is this object hovering over Lake Superior? While traveling through Paradise, Michigan, Erik Rintamaki noticed two golden orbs flying above a boat for over an hour. One of the lights mysteriously disappeared and reappeared shortly after he began filming, leaving him and his female companion wondering what exactly they were witnessing. This is the craziest thing I've ever seen, he exclaimed. Watch the eerie moment and decide for yourself what the puzzling sighting could possibly be.

Random things I enjoyed in St. Ignace Michigan
beaches, signs, iconic statues, it has become one of my happy places.
Vermilion Point
Vermilion Point is a remote, undeveloped shore in Chippewa County, Michigan, United States. Located 9.75 miles (15.69 km) west of Whitefish Point, Michigan, this historic spot lies on a stretch of Lake Superior’s southeast coast known as the Graveyard of the Great Lakes or the Shipwreck Coast. The servicemen of Vermilion Lifesaving Station performed daring rescues of shipwrecks from 1877 until 1944 when it was closed after modern navigational technology made this service obsolete.
Vermilion Point was a popular stopover for Native Americans, early travelers, and explorers. Early settlers used its bogs and marshes to grow cranberries that were shipped to Chicago, Illinois and Duluth, Minnesota. Today it is protected as a nature preserve for study of avian ecology and research of the piping plover and beach plant community succession.

Judy B.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Well Kept U.P. Paradise
I unexpectedly ended up staying here, and I'm so glad the circumstances led me to it. I had my heart set on stay at Twelve Mile Beach Campground but that and Hurricane River were both full. I drove back to Grand Marias and stayed here. Overall a wonderful experienc. Tons of spots. For a township park rates were reasonable. A little better signage for the tent only area would have been nice, i ended up setting up on a full hookup site and payed significantly more than a tent site would have costed. Restrooms were clean and nice, awesome hot showered, BUT they are all closed for an hour in the morning for cleaning. I'm all for a good clean bathroom, but 9 to 10 a.m. is prime bathroom time in my experience. So semi inconvenient.

Over the Mighty Mac and through the toll booths. Take the St. Ignace exit west and continue in this direction. The marker is only a couple of minutes to the left from the merge onto US-2. Wonderful facility with educational markers throughout the park.

SUMMARY
=======
Hiawatha National Forest is a 894,836-acre (362,127 ha) National Forest in the Upper Peninsula of the state of Michigan in the United States. Commercial logging is conducted in some areas. The United States Forest Service administers this National Forest; it is physically divided into two subunits, commonly called the Eastside 46°14′N 84°50′W and Westside 46°08′N 86°40′W. In descending order of land area it lies in parts of Chippewa, Delta, Mackinac, Alger, Schoolcraft, and Marquette counties. Chippewa and Mackinac counties are in the Eastside, whereas the rest are in the Westside. The smaller Eastside contains about 44% of the forest's area, whereas the larger Westside has about 56%. Forest headquarters are located in Escanaba, Michigan. Eastside ranger district offices are located in Sault Ste. Marie and St. Ignace, while Westside offices are in Manistique, Munising, and Rapid River.Eastside was a large infertile sandy area that was never homesteaded or developed. It was designated Marquette National Forest by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1909. This land was administered with Huron National Forest as the Michigan National Forest from 1918 until 1962, when it was transferred to Hiawatha. The forest was authorized to buy an additional 307,000 acres (124,200 ha) in 1925 and 50,000 acres (20,230 ha) in 1935. Westside began being purchased in 1928 and was designated Hiawatha National Forest in 1931. This unit was extensively replanted by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Many wildlife species roam in this forest including timber wolves, white-tailed deer, golden eagles, black bears, moose, coyotes, bobcats, bald eagles, beavers, red foxes, river otters, Canadian lynxes, hawks, muskrats, weasels, sandhill cranes, minks, and wild turkeys.
The forest has over 100 miles (160 km) of shoreline. Both east and west units have shoreline on both Lake Superior and Lake Michigan; the east unit also has shoreline on Lake Huron and includes Round Island and its lighthouse. The west unit borders Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, which is administered by the National Park Service, and the Grand Island National Recreation Area, which is separately administered by the U.S. Forest Service.
Several lighthouses are located along the shores. The Point Iroquois Light is operated as a museum. The segment of the 4,600-mile-long North Country Trail passes through the forest.
The Hiawatha National Forest contains six designated wilderness areas:
Big Island Lake Wilderness
Delirium Wilderness
Horseshoe Bay Wilderness
Mackinac Wilderness
Rock River Canyon Wilderness
Round Island WildernessThere are five National Wild and Scenic Rivers in the Forest: Carp River, Indian River, Sturgeon River, Tahquamenon River (East Branch), Whitefish River.
According to the forest service, it was Named after the Mohawk chief, Hiawatha, who brought about the confederation known as the Five Nations of the Iroquois. He was also the hero of Longfellow's poem, 'Hiawatha'.

TESTING OUR BATTERIES AND EXPLORING THE UPPER PENINSULA!
➝ This Episode:
It's official, we found our favorite campsite! Not just in Michigan but in the whole two years we've been on the road. The only catch is that it doesn't have any hookups so we had to put our lithium Battle Born Batteries to the test this trip. We're happy to report they held up well and we can't wait to install solar so we can stay longer in places like this. This week we also explored some of the major sights in the Upper Peninsula, including the Soo Locks, Whitefish Point, Tahquamenon Falls, and St. Ignace! Also, we apologize in advance to all of the Michiganders watching (and cringing), we mess up every single local word ????
