Ajahn Kalyano Talk | 17/2/2019 | Palelai Buddhist Temple
Venerable Ajahn Kalyano was born in the UK and became interested in Buddhism at high school and had the good fortune to see the documentaries “The Mindful Way” and “The Buddha Comes to Sussex” about the life and teachings of Venerable Ajahn Chah. He began practicing meditation on a regular basis during his time at university and this led to his decision to travel to Thailand in 1983 and seek out a meditation teacher. Having been advised to visit Venerable Ajahn Chah in Ubon, Venerable Ajahn Kalyano stayed and practiced at Wat Pa Nanachat as an ‘anagarika’ or a white robed trainee monk and received Samanera ordination at the end of 1984.
Venerable Ajahn Kalyano entered the Bhikkhu Sangha at Wat Nong Pa Pong in 1985 and continued his training at Wat Nong Pa Pong, Wat Pa Nanachat and associated monasteries. He regularly spent long periods of time at Wat Nong Pa Pong helping to nurse Venerable Ajahn Chah through his extended period of illness. Venerable Ajahn Kalyano also continued to translate Dhamma teachings from Venerable Ajahn Chah and other forest Ajahns, and this work continued when he began training under Venerable Ajahn Anan in 1991.
Venerable Ajahn Kalyano also spent much of his early years as a monk staying out in the forests of Thailand practicing in the tradition of a wandering “dhutanga” monk. During this period he lived in a very simple and ascetic way and devoted himself to developing and deepening his understanding of the Buddhist path.
In April 2001, after a piece of forest land had been offered to the Sangha of Venerable Ajahn Chah, Venerable Ajahn Kalyano was invited to travel to Australia and continue his practice in East Warburton. Since the beginning of Buddha Bodhivana Monastery, Venerable Ajahn Kalyano has been the resident teacher of the growing numbers of Sangha and laity residing at the monastery. In 2008 he was given the title of Upajjhaya or Preceptor by the Supreme Sangha Council of Thailand, which allowed him to perform the Upasampada or Admission Ceremony for new monks at the monastery.
Venerable Ajahn Kalyano continues to practice and teach at the monastery and is also regularly invited to offer teachings about the Buddhist path, both in Australia and overseas. In August 2016, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand chose Venerable Ajahn Kalyano to receive the honorary title of Chao Khun Sophon Pavanavithet in recognition for his contribution in spreading the teachings of the Buddha, and the title was formally conferred on him in a ceremony at the Grand Palace in Bangkok on 5 December 2016 by the new King, His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn.

The meaning of Katina from Wikipedia is below.
Kathina is a Buddhist festival which comes at the end of Vassa, the three-month rainy season retreat for Theravada Buddhists in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand.[2] The season during which a monastery may hold Kathina is one month long, beginning after the full moon of the eleventh month in the Lunar calendar (usually October).
It is a time of giving, for the laity to express gratitude to bhikkhus (Buddhist monks).[3][4] Lay Buddhists bring donations to temples, especially new robes for the monks. In Sri Lanka offers Atapirikara අටපිරිකර (Eightfold Requisites).[2][3][4]

Quang Duc Buddhist Monastery, Fawkner, Melbourne - India2Australia.com
Visit
The Quang Duc Buddhist Welfare Association was established in 1990 in a small three-roomed house at 30 Bamburg St, Broadmeadows in the northern suburbs of the City of Melbourne. The house was used for worship, religious education and many various Buddhist activities. As time went by, and as the Buddhist community grew, the Ven.Thich Tam Phuong had to find a new place for a temple which would meet the needs of the Buddhist community of the northern suburban region.
On 20 of May 1997, thanks to the Buddha's blessing, the society purchased from the Victorian Education Department an old primary education school, in the suburb of Fawkner, on an area of 7,411m2 for A$351,200. We also received approval from the local Moreland City Council to set up a Buddhist Welfare Centre as part of the new Fawkner temple. This new temple is within easy reach of Melbourne airport and within easy access of the northern ring road.
From the initial establishment in 1990, the temple strived to serve the local Vietnamese communities livng in the northern region comprising of the cities of Broadmeadows, Coburg, Preston, Reservoir, Thomastown, Bundoora, Epping, Lalor, and as well Footscray in the west of Melbourne, Richmond in the inner city and Springvale in Melbournes south east. Some of the services we provide every weekend include, Buddhist Doctrine classes, Buddhist youth/family groups and Bo De Vietnamese Language school classes that helps children maintain their Buddhist traditions, spirit and Vietnamese culture.

Buddhist Council of Western Australia -- Kathina Celebrations 2016
Kathina is an event of celebrating the Buddhist monks and nuns completing their rain retreat for the year. A rain retreat is when monks or nuns focus on their training at their monasteries and avoid non-monastic activities away from the monasteries.
The photos of Kathina celebration in 2016 were provided by the following Buddhist centers:
1. Bodhinyana Monks Monastery at Serpentine
2. Cambodian Buddhist Society of Western Australia at Kelmscott
3. Dhammasara Nuns Monastery at Gidgegannup
4. Sri Lankan Buddhist Vihara at Kenwick
5. Tisarana Buddhist Association of Australia at Forrestfield
The accompanying music is a rendition of a popular song. It starts with a non-distinct tune but slowly becomes a recognizable song at the end. It illustrates that simply looking at a small portion of a subject cannot be relied upon to represent the complete picture. One has to be patient in observation, be mindful and be analytical in order to confidently know the subject. This is like a reflection of the Buddhist practice.
