Bukit Gasing Forest Reserve is a 100 hectare stretch of green belt dividing the city of Petaling Jaya (Selangor state) from the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.
It was once a rubber estate but, in the intervening 60 years, the miraculous restorative powers of nature have been allowed to work their magic and the park is now a haven of lush secondary forest including some pretty large trees.
Being surrounded by heavily populated areas, Bukit Gasing is a popular place for nearby residents to stretch legs, get the lungs and heart working and sweat off any extra weight.
There are a number of hiking trails within the park to suit all levels of energy and fitness.

Forest Reserve Garden Villa, Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya
This villa, the crown jewel on top of the Section 5 hill, is enveloped in the green lung on a quiet cul de sac. This gem is hidden and tucked away for privacy. The ground floor comprises of a large open garden filled with lush greenery and a tranquil atmosphere. The forest reserves is home to the natural birds, often chirping while having breakfast in the morning.
From the ground floor, the en-suite gardeners room ensures that the garden lawn is immaculately maintained. Moving to the first floor is a beautiful spiral staircase with a lovely fountain which overlooks a forest view. The classic balustrades line the villa and lends a colonial feel.
The lanai on the first floor is air conditioned for the tropical climate. The gazebo area is ideal for BBQs near the pool. The living room is wall to wall mahogany and Narra wood panels. A home theatre is set up for entertainment. A generous sized en-suite guest room is on this floor.
The inviting second floor presents three en-suite bedrooms bringing the total built up for this bungalow at approximately 8500 square feet.
Bukit Gasing is strategically located between Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur, it compromises mostly of bungalows but there are semi-detached houses as well as link-houses. Amenities and facilities are located within the enclave of Section 5. There are several schools in the vicinity including SMK Taman Petaling, SMK La Salle, and SRK La Salle. Moreover, there are other few schools located just a stone throw away from the enclave such as SMK Assunta, Catholic High School, and SK Petaling Jaya 1 and 2. As for recreational, there are few playgrounds mere minutes away from MBPJ Hockey Stadium, Arena Rakan Muda, and Taman Jaya Lake.
Not only that, there are several mosques, churches, and temples can be found nearby. Thus, Section 5 is just a perfect place to stay to raise a family. The location of Section 5 is also great if one needs to commute to the city centre, Mid Valley City or Bangsar for work, as it is merely just 15 minutes to those areas. For shopping and leisure, it is served by Amcorp Mall, Mid Valley Megamall, The Gardens, and Bangsar Village. It can be easily accessed from Federal Highway and New Pantai Expressway (NPE). Besides that, it is also within mere minutes away from Jalan Templer and Petaling KTM Komuter stations.

Bukit Gasing Forest Reserve is a 100 hectare stretch of green belt dividing the city of Petaling Jaya (Selangor state) from the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.
It was once a rubber estate but, in the intervening 60 years, the miraculous restorative powers of nature have been allowed to work their magic and the park is now a haven of lush secondary forest including some pretty large trees.
There are two entrances to the park: The one that is commonly known as the main entrance has an arch and is located in PJ, while the “back entrance” is on the KL side. This makes the place easily accessible from both states.
There are no fees for hiking here, but as always, the rules of nature apply – “take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints”.

咖啡山是目前吉隆坡唯一保有原始熱帶雨林的地區，這原始雨林目前被劃為咖啡山森林保留地（Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve），佔地約10.5公頃，它是早在1906年被憲報公佈為永久森林保留地。
目前在森林保留地內種植了珍貴的花卉和植物，包括罕見的草藥、攀藤植物和蕨類植物等。巨型的热带树木如红木（Meranti）和龙脑香木（keruing）也可在此找到。咖啡山內有不少條道路是以樹木來命名，如沉香路（Jalan Aquilarium）、匹那拉罕路（Jalan Penarahan）、坡壘屬路（Jalan Hopea）等。森林保留地內常見的動物有猴子、松鼠及其他小型的爬蟲類、哺乳類與鳥類。
在森林保留地內還設有森林博物館、野胡姬園、草藥園和植物園，有露營場地可進行露營活動。

My colleagues and I went for a short hiking trip up Gasing Hill this morning. It's Tuesday and it's our day off. (Yay!) On the way down we came across this stream. The water was so clear it looked like there was no water at all!
It was filled with mosquito fish, a few channas and further up, barbs (about 15cm, had a black bar across its back), rasboras, and other small fishes. The water was too cloudy to see them clearly.
