Shoalhaven Love the River Campaign Launch - Deborah Ely, Bundanon Trust
Love the River is a community-based litter reduction and river awareness campaign that targets Shoalhaven River recreational boat users. This pilot campaign will provide local residents and visitors to the Shoalhaven with an increased awareness of river health issues.
Population growth in the Shoalhaven and continued attraction of visitors to this natural icon will mean increased use of the River over time.
The campaign's key messages are keep it clean and watch your wash with the objective that people will be inspired to show their love for the Shoalhaven River by keeping it clean and watching the wash created by their powerboats. Volunteers and extra waste services will be available at boat ramps on weekends and public holidays over the summer holiday season to help river-lovers keep the River clean.
Southern Rivers Catchment Management Authority, Shoalhaven City Council and Bundanon Trust have joined local businesses and community groups to spread these messages about caring for the River.

The Drowned Town of Yalwal. ( Danjera Dam )
Back in the 1870s in the ranges west of Nowra there was once a thriving and wealthy gold-mining town called Yalwal. It had a school, hotels, stores, homes and thousands of ounces of pure gold were crushed from the rock in the surrounding hills, but by the early 20th century the gold had petered out and most of the good folk of Yalwal left. Around 1930 a devestating bush-fire wiped out what remained. In 1971 a dam was built on the creek that had once supplied the town with water to work the mines and now, somewhat ironically, the pioneer town lies beneath the still waters of Danjera Dam

Siteworks 2011 Conversation - Robyn Backen: Last Word
Documentation at Shoalhaven River, Saturday September 24, 2011.
In 1880 Thomas Biddulph of Eeree (Earie Park) wrote in his diary, and each day he started with a simple weather report. His observations are the basis of this work. Last Word takes the form of what could be called a river fugue or simply a collage of voices transmitted then received— beside, around and across the Shoalhaven tidal zone.
Robyn Backen is an interdisciplinary artist whose work makes connections between art, science and philosophy. She has collaborated with: Michelle Xen, Ian Hobbs, Neil Mackenzie, Terry Hayes, Annemaree Dalziel, Richard Manner & Richard Montgomery.
