A Great Saturday Afternoon spent at the Altona Dog Beach

Adventures with Kate: Altona Dog Beach

A trip to Burns Reserve (aka Altona Dog Beach) in Melbourne. This is a year-round off-leash area for dogs and Kate loved it. She much prefers paddling in shallows than open surf. And, thankfully there weren't any submerged rocks to obsess over here (see our video Fishing for Rocks There was quite a bit of paragliding and paramotoring activity when we were there, but Kate didn't seem put off by men in strange costumes parading up and down the beach (as you can see).

Sammy Loves Food (Altona Doggy Beach + Yarraville Gardens Food Trucks)

Check out Sammy's - aka Lord Samington the 3rd - EPIC session! His mum Tish is a super foodie, so I knew straight away that we had to bring her love of all things nommy into our afternoon together. Check our her food blog Cookin.com.au

We started in their North Melbourne​ home, hanging out in Tish's kitchen. Sammy met Tish about two years ago, at the RSPCA Victoria​. He was about a year old - fully grown, but still with his puppy wobble. When Tish came up to his cage, he leant against the door, waiting to be patted. Every night for a week, Tish looked at videos and photos of Sammy before bed. At the end of the week, she adopted him . . . just two weeks after bringing him home, I remember feeling that Sammy had filled a hole in my file.

Next we headed to the Altona Doggy Beach​. Sammy hadn't been there before, but Tish had told me that one of her favourite things to do is watch Sammy in the water - he LOVES it! I knew he'd have a blast diving through the waves of Altona - and I was thoroughly impressed with Tish for getting in there with him - that's true love haha.

Finally, we finished up with dinner at the Yarraville Gardens Food Trucks​. As the sun set over the city, spoilt Sammy used his best moves to earn some nibbles. Cue some puppy eyes and serious tummy rolls! I couldn't help reflecting on just how lucky these two are to have eachother. He's a sooky, silly, loving boy and she's a hilarious, creative, bright gal and together they are perfect!
