Byron Bay Farmers Markets
The Byron Farmers markets began as a dream. An inspiration from local farmers, growers, environmentalists and families who wanted all the positive effects of a growers market in their area. After alot of hard work lobbying, liasing with council, market research and a fair amount of time, we have two very successful farmers markets at Byron Bay and Bangalow.
The Byron Farmers Market is held every Thursday morning from 8-11 oclock and has been operating since December 2002.
With the success of Thursdays market as encouragement, in July 2004 the Byron Farmers Market Association started a Farmers Market in the neighbouring town Bangalow. This market is held every Saturday morning from 8-11.
The Byron Farmers Markets at Byron Bay and Bangalow provide as much variety as the seasons allow.
The Farmers new Market has a lovely ambience and an ever growing membership, produce, products and regular customers.
The Byron Farmers Market Association has supplied many happy customers with a healthy grass root alternative. While the farmers involved have access to a rapidly growing market.
The farmers market is an exercise in community based sustainable agriculture. It is also a place where people meet, where recipes are swapped, new exotic flavours tried, hints on successful gardening are shared and the weather and local issues are discussed. See you there!!

Byron Bay Sunday Markets, Byron, Australia
A walk round of Byron Bay Sunday Market. Byron Bay's Community Market, held at the Butler Street reserve, is one of the best in the region. Covering several acres, the market offers a vast array of handcrafted wares, locally-grown produce, and artworks of every kind. It's best to get there early and allow a few hours to take in all the stalls, indulge in some fresh food and culture. Stallholders, in their eye-catching colourful splendour, are a spectacle in themselves. Rainbows, sparkles and angel wings seem to be the 'uniform', making you feel as if you truly are in a magical world.
Come and listen to some great bands as well as our featured busker. While you're there, enjoy hundreds of craft stalls as well as fresh local produce and delicious food and drink. There's plenty for the kids to do with candle making, face painting, tie dying and rides.

The Hidden Gem of Australia's Coasts — Byron Bay, NSW, Australia | The Travel Intern
Australia is famous for its breathtaking coasts, and we all know the country is littered with beautiful beaches.
So this time, we got the chance to visit (we believe) one of Australia's greatest hidden coastal gems — Byron Bay! It also helps that our ultimate bae, Chris Hemsworth, stays here too. ;-)
If you're not convinced, check our 13 reasons why Byron Bay should be on EVERY New South Wales' itinerary:
00:31 - Brunswick River
STAND UP PADDLING! Unlike the open oceans, paddling along Brunswick River was calm, peaceful and it felt like we had the whole area to ourselves~
00:39 - Cook Island
Cook Island is FAMOUS for its snorkelling tours, and we hopped on one of 'em! We got to see not only turtles in their natural habitat, but also a leopard shark and tonnnnnes of lil fishies in the water :-)
00:53 - Tropical Fruit World
Think of it as a fruit theme park — you get to go through tours around the large compound and you'll be blown away by the sheer amount of fruits they grow in there. ****Be sure to try the MIRACLE FRUIT, and the ice-cream they sell at the store :-)
01:11 - Mavis's Kitchen
Most of what they serve come from their garden just out the back from their restaurant. Super fresh, super yummy!
01:18 - Catch a Crab
Tweed Heads is not too far from the main city of Byron Bay, and their crabbing adventure tours are really famous too! We had such a good time learning how to catch crabs, yabbies and fishes~ THANK YOU CATCH A CRAB!!
01:37 - Cape Byron Lighthouse
YOU GET DIBS ON CATCHING THE SUNRISE FIRST IN AUSTRALIA!! Is that not a pull? Hahaha. Here at Australia's most easterly point, you get to catch the sunrise, and if you're feelin' a lil indulgent, treat yourself and a friend/partner to the Toast the Sun experience!
01:51 - Air T&G Helicopters
It was always a dream to get on a helicopter, even more so an OPEN-DOOR helicopter ride! There are a couple of different packages which include different routes and timings at Air T&G. One package even allows you to PILOT the helicopter — no kidding.
02:08 - Main Beach (GO SEA KAYAKS)
We've gone on and on about the beautiful beaches, so here we are, kayaking through the open ocean in search for sea turtles and dolphins! Hopefully the waters aren't too choppy when you're out there. Some of us had motion sickness while kayaking hahaha.
02:18 - The Farm
02:30 - Three Blue Ducks
One thing about Australia and Byron Bay, specifically, is the fact that it is so self-sustaining! Here at The Farm, we got to tour around and learnt more about the local produce sitch in Australia. Super inspiring.
Three Blue Ducks is within the compounds of The Farm, but they are always super crowded so do try to go during off-peak hours.
02:34 - Stone & Wood Brewery
If you observe, almost every bar or restaurant boasts the logo of Stone & Wood. They are also part of the local produce gang gang in Byron Bay, and they actually serve up some experimental beers that are limited edition on a rotational basis!
02:43 - Crystal Castle
Ultimate zen place. Learn about meditation, about crystals and everything about zen here~
02:55 - Main Beach (LET'S GO SURFING)
You'd better surf at one of Australia's surfing capitals! Try booking the sunrise surf with the beautiful warm orange glow embracing you as you make ~moves~ on the ~waves~.
03:09 - Byron Farmers Market
Only open on Thursdays from 8AM to 11AM.
We really recommend The Nomadic Kitchen!! They serve up some really interesting dishes, and they also move around the different farmers markets around the area.
03:17 - Husk Distillers
OOOOOOOO SIS YOU GOTS TO TRY THEIR INK GIN TONIC! 'Nuff said. Pretty purple colour, nice for your social media handles too. Hahaha.
03:27 - Zephyr Horses
The perfect way to end the day — Zephyr Horses' Forest to Beach Sunset Tour. We got to ride through a really mystical forest trail that led us out to the open beach with nobody around except us and the horsies~
03:38 - Harvest Newrybar
Just take a short drive out of Byron Bay and you'll reach Newrybar village. Harvest boasts a restaurant, bakery, deli and garden all in one compound.
03:48 - Zentveld's Coffee
The owner of this coffee plantation was self-taught — she learnt about brewing, harvesting and everything coffee-related by herself! We really enjoyed the experience of walking through the plantation, looking at how the brewing and harvesting process is like and getting to taste it. Yeet.
Have we convinced you guys to make a trip down yet??!?!?! We hope so! Because we'd surely visit again. :-)

BYRON BAY (source Wikipedia):
Byron Bay is a beachside town located in the far-northeastern corner of the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located 772 kilometres (480 mi) north of Sydney and 165 kilometres (103 mi) south of Brisbane. Cape Byron, a headland adjacent to the town, is the easternmost point of mainland Australia. At the 2011 census, the town had a permanent population of 4,959. The town is in turn the nucleus of Byron Shire, which had 29,209 residents.
The local Arakwal Aboriginal people's name for the area is Cavvanbah, meaning meeting place. Lieutenant James Cook named Cape Byron after Naval officer John Byron, circumnavigator of the world and grandfather of the poet Lord Byron.
The history of Europeans in Byron Bay began in 1770, when Lieutenant James Cook found a safe anchorage and named Cape Byron after a fellow sailor John Byron. The first industry in Byron was cedar logging from the Australian red cedar (Toona ciliata). The timber industry is the origin of the word shoot in many local names – Possum Shoot, Coopers Shoot and Skinners Shoot – where the timber-cutters would shoot the logs down the hills to be dragged to waiting ships.
Gold mining of the beaches was the next industry to occur. Up to 20 mining leases set up on Tallow Beach to extract gold from the black sands around the 1870s.
Byron Bay has a history of primary industrial production (dairy factory, abattoirs, fishing, and whaling until 1963) and was a significant, but hazardous, sea port. The poet Brunton Stephens spoke of cattle grazing on the mossy plains of Cape Byron in a poem he penned in 1876.
The first jetty was built in 1886, and the railway was connected in 1894, and Cavvanbah became Byron Bay in 1894. Dairy farmers cleared more land and settled the area. In 1895, the Norco Co-operative was formed to provide cold storage and manage the dairy industry. The introduction of paspalum improved production, and Byron Bay exported butter to the world. The Norco factory was the biggest in the southern hemisphere, expanding from dairy to bacon and other processed meat.
The lighthouse was built in 1901 at the most easterly point on the Australian mainland. In 1930, the first meatworks opened. The smell from the meat and dairy works was, by all accounts, appalling, and the annual slaughter of migrating whales in the 1950s and 1960s made matters worse. Sand mining for monazite (zircon, uranium and thorium) between the World Wars damaged the environment further, and one by one, all these industries declined.
