TERRA 723: TRUST Oregon
TERRA 723: TRUST Oregon from TERRA: The Nature of Our World. Like this? Watch the latest episode of TERRA: The Nature of Our World on Blip!
TRUST Oregon features Kelsey Cascadia Rose Juliana, a 16-year-old from Eugene, who is passionate about preserving this beautiful Earth. Kelseyapos;s identity is directly tied to the various elements of Oregonapos;s biodiversity. She was born in a 1-room cabin in Fall Creek amidst the old-growth trees of the Cascades. She was named after Kelsey Creek - a crystal-clear river that flows out of an ancient forest grove, and Rose signifies the wild rose that grew abundantly near the cabin where she was born.
Kelsey knows that she is not old enough to vote, but she has also learned that she can raise her voice by speaking out. Although it shouldnapos;t be the responsibility of her generation to take on the burden of learning how to adapt in the face of global climate change, Kelsey knows that Mother Earth does not have the time to wait for politicians to debate about whether climate change will affect our future.

Pathecolor Sic Nature's Teacup - Crater Lake In Oregon (1927)
Crater Lake, Oregon, United States of America. Pathecolor (sic) item - early stencil colour.
A volcanic cone, now long extinct, forms the setting of Crater Lake in Oregon, one of Nature's rarest scenic gems. Scenic shot of the lake, with mountains beyond. Camera pans across lake to show volcanic type rock in middle and mountains surrounding it. M/S of mountainside with lake in foreground. M/S of lake lapping against the shore. The placid lake now rests quietly in the teacup-shaped crater which once was a seething cladron of molten rock. [I presume there is a typo in this intertitle - perhaps it should have been seething cauldron?] M/S of the lake, water flows away from the camera, perhaps shot from the back of a boat.
M/S of the lake from on board a boat, people seen on the boat in the foreground - probably tourists on a pleasure cruise. Nice colours. M/S of rocky outcrops on shore of the lake. A motor boat is seen in the distance. Frivolous and paradoxical Nature has transformed a once dreaded spot of death into one of the world's most healthful outdoor playgrounds. High angle shot of the lake, seen from mountainside. Another view of the lake showing its mirror like reflection of mountains beside it. Various other high views. M/S of hikers walking towards the camera and stopping to admire the view. The pastel grey of volcanic ash contrasted to the vivid blue-green of the water, bring a remote fairyland to the imagination. High angle shot of the lake. More views.
Note: This is an American Pathe Review item. Probably in issue 6/27 which I presume dates the film as 1927.

Battle of the Ospreys at Camassia
Three Ospreys fighting over a nest on a cell phone tower, in Camassia Natural Area (West Linn, Oregon). These photos were taken at the very beginning of the nesting season, so the third Osprey is not this year's offspring. I'm told that sometimes the previous year's young will hang around and help guard the nest. If that's the case here, it seems like its help is not wanted.
