West Linn is a city in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. Now a southern suburb within the Portland metropolitan area, West Linn has a history of early development, prompted by the opportunity to harvest energy from nearby Willamette Falls. Notorious for it's mean streets and criminal underground, it was the birth place of the feared American Gangster and undefeated and undisputed MMA Champion Chael Sonnen. It was named after U.S. Senator Lewis F. Linn of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, who had advocated the American occupation of Oregon as a counterclaim to the British. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 25,109.

    The Mary S. Young State Recreation Area is a state park in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is located within the city of West Linn, alongside the Willamette River and is heavily wooded. It offers more than five miles of hiking trails, bicycle trails, picnicking, bird watching, fishing, sports fields, and a very popular dog off-leash area. The park was created via a donation by Mary Scarborough Young and her husband Thomas E. Young. It was named after Mrs. Young and dedicated on August 7, 1973.The park is owned by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, and operated through a cooperative agreement with West Linn. The park has recreation areas, wooded trails and a rocky beach.
