Camino de Finisterre/Fisterra, Camino de Santiago - Muxia - Finisterre
Pictures from our walk from Santiago de Compostella to Muxia and south to Finisterre summer 2016.
I have published four more videos from our walk between Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and Hendaye/Irun in the Pyrenees, and at Camino Norte from Hendaye/Irun to Santiago.
From 2008 to 2016 we have walked parts of the way to Santiago most summers. We started up in France (in Cluny) and went southwest to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. Then the Pyrenees west to Hendaye/Irun and so Camino del Norte to Santiago.

Camino Finisterre Way from Santiago to Muxía | CaminoWays.com
Walk the Camino all the way to the Atlantic Coast, along the Finisterre Way or Camino de Fisterra #caminodefisterra, to the ‘End of the World’!
This Camino de Santiago route is unique, as it is the only one starting in Santiago de Compostela. There is a good reason for it.
This Camino route pre-dates Christianity, as pagans would head to Fisterra on the Costa da Morte (Coast of Death) where they believed the sun died and the worlds of the dead and the living became closer.
Prayers would be said and offerings would be made to please the gods. Fisterra is also believed to be the place of Ara Solis, a magical place and altar dedicated to the dying sun.
The Finisterre Way can be continued along the rugged coast to the sanctuary of A Virxe da Barca in Muxía, a traditional pilgrimage destination in a stunning location by the Atlantic Ocean. Muxía is home to its famous rocking stones, said to cure ailments.

Alane's Camino, from France to Finisterre Fisterra, Galicia Spain Medium
My Camino, from St Jean Pied de Port, France to Finisterre (or Fisterra) Spain, which is the town at the Atlantic coast. It is a 560 mile walk across Spain. An amazing journey of hiking daily, with intention, often referred to as a pilgrimage. For me, it was a spiritual walk, walking underneath the Milky Way, following the stars. Others (pilgrims) resonate with the religious aspect of it, with the 500 mile marker being at the cathedral in Santiago. No matter the intention or reason for the walk by each person, persons of all different countries come together for this walk, with respect for our differences and similarities, kindness and compassion for each individual's journey. People complete the walk by foot, bike, horse, etc. Such a unique experience.
The end of the world and the camino de santiago. Finisterre spain
Finistere is called the end of the world named so by the Roman's when they established a merchant and goods route from the docks of Finistere to move goods through Spain. Before Columbus sailed the ocean blue they believed this was truly the end of the world.

It comes down to the final moment when we have to choose between boarding a bus to Finisterre or walking. We leave our friends and decide to walk.

Camino de Finisterre, May 2016
Camino to Finisterre, May 2016. Part 3!
Cee - Finisterre | Camino Finisterre
The final day in our Camino de Santiago / Camino Finisterre and on our 45th day since leaving St Jean Pied de Port we finally arrive on the Spanish West Coast.
We are full of mixed emotions. Happy, sad, confused, drained, upset. The weather made it a very difficult day arriving in Finisterre and we had to postpone our arrival at the 0.00km mark until the following morning. However we were able to share some time with our friend in Finisterre for the evening and get warm and dry. We also thoroughly enjoyed the End of the World Bar in Finisterre which served up some banging vegan options. There's nothing like a delicious hot meal to calm the mind and enjoy the moment.
At this time I'd like to thank our new found friends who have been following our journey. And right when we have finished this adventure we will be recapping our 2019 in bits and getting ready for our next journey.
The next adventure will be taking us overland (as far as possible) from the UK - Europe - Russia - China - South East Asia - Australia - New Zealand. To get involved jump on our instagram, facebook or pinterest. Links below;

Camino de Santiago and Finisterre – Documentary Film
This film documents the precise, minute detail journey of the people on the Camino de Santiago and the Camino de Finisterre in 2015 and their experience, whether spiritual or physical, across 1000 km of northern Spain. Although I am providing narratives or storytelling of events, thoughts, feelings and observations I simply represent all people walking el Camino.
A chief theme of a narrative is whether people walking el Camino are pilgrims or trekkers. Is a pilgrimage seeking something missing inside of ourselves?
The film also shows constant changes taking place in nature and within us while walking el Camino and enduring hardship through unknown physical challenges on the way.
The complete Camino Finisterre 2019 (Santiago - Muxía - Fisterra)
Over a space of 3 days, starting on the 25th October, 2019, I walked the complete Camino Finisterre, from Santiago de Compostela to Muxía, and then on to the final destination of Fisterra. This is the video covering the entire journey of 123km.
In addition to Christian pilgrims, many other people from all backgrounds and belief systems complete this camino for many different reasons, but probably most commonly as a spiritual path or retreat for their spiritual growth. However, I do not subscribe to any particular belief system. My reasons are primarily for the physical challenge (I covered just on 41km per day over the 3 days), as well as for the spiritual discipline and awakening that I experience when undertaking such intensive treks. My singular goal is to gain direct personal experience through action.
The Camino Finisterre, or pilgrimage to the ‘end of the world’, is unique in that it is the only one that starts in Santiago de Compostela, and it takes pilgrims to the final ‘end of the world’ zero km camino marker (Note: In actuality, there are two such markers, one at Faro de Muxía, and the other at Faro de Fisterra). I hope you enjoy this video, and it inspires you to take on a similar journey.
Thank you for joining me on this journey,
Jyri
