Exploring Rat's Nest Cave || Canmore Cave Tours
Going spelunking, or caving, has always been on my bucket list. For Father's Day this year, I bought my husband and I passes to explore Canmore's Rat's Nest Cave for an afternoon. We went 256 meters below the surface of the Earth to explore underground grottos, push ourselves through narrow squeezes, and find formations like soda straws and flowstones.
Join Marti from 'Down the Wrabbit Hole Travel' as she and her husband explore Rat's Nest Cave with Canmore Cave Tours. Thanks to this amazing tour company for keeping us safe and entertained! To read about how incredible caving is, visit the blog post (which contains a ton of information) at

ALBERTA ADVENTURES: GROTTO CANYON // CANMORE
Grotto Canyon is an easy hike, both in summer and winter. Make sure when you're hiking in winter to bring ice cleats to get the full experience to go see cave. You walk between the 50 ft narrow canyon walls and at the end you see waterfalls, making it a worthwhile excursion. You can also find ancient pictographs painted on the canyon walls, which is really cool.

this is a 2-1/2 hour tour where you walk up the mountain to find the Rats Nest Cave which is a limestone Cave in a mountain near Canmore. the cave requires you to wear cave gear and has no lights in it and you need to wear a helmet with a light on it. the cave has many parts where you need to hook on to ropes in order to get by and there are many spots where you need to crawl through since it is very tight. so not the place if you have claustrophobia. check out the link to the tour here

Adventure Tour of Rat's Nest Cave in Canmore Alberta
Our group spent about 4 hours exploring Rat's Nest Cave with Max, our awesome guide from Canmore Cave Tours. During those 4 hours there was never a dull moment. We found ourselves rappelling 18 meters into total darkness to get things started, immediately followed by our first squeeze at the Five Way Chamber. Next we slipped down the claustrophobia inducing Laundry Chute. After that we enjoyed the spacious Grand Gallery and paused for some hydration courtesy of a small pool in the Grotto, the deepest chamber we explored (22 storeys down!). On our way back up we each took a shot or two at a deceptively difficult squeeze speed-challenge. Max showed us how it's done, finishing in a mind-blowing 18 seconds. The best we could do was about triple his time ...with triple the bruises! Overall it was a great time and the tour really lived up to its name - what an adventure!!
