Admirals arch, Flinders Chase National Park, Kangaroo island, South Australia 2011 - viewing platform, seal colony
Admirals Arch is one of Kangaroo Island's most impressive and unusual natural landmarks. It took thousands of years of erosion to create this distinctive rock bridge near the Cape du Couedic Lighthouse on the island's southwest coast. The boardwalk leading to the Admirals Arch is nearly as scenic as the landmark itself.
The Admirals Arch viewing platform is also an ideal place to observe the New Zealand fur seal colony that has established itself below the landmark. These dark brown seals rest and breed on land, but find food in the water. Summer is the primary breeding season, and the rock pools underneath Admirals Arch are a popular place for seal pups to play.
Flinders Chase National Park is a protected area located at the west end of Kangaroo Island, South Australia, about 177 kilometres (110 mi) west-south west of Adelaide and 62 kilometres (39 mi) west-south west of Kingscote. It is a sanctuary for endangered species and home to a few geological phenomena.

Loading the cannon at Cape Borda Lighthouse, Kangaroo Island
A fired-up Lighthouse-keeper Mick loads the cannon at Cape Borda Lighthouse, Kangaroo Island. The daily firing of the cannon continues a tradition whereby the cannon was fired at the same time each day to allow passing ships to check their timepieces - an essential part of ocean navigation in the days prior to GPS.

I had a finger in one ear and held the camera in my other hand - the extremely loud bang of the cannon caused the camera movement!

What's next for YouTube subscribers
Rest assured you subscribing and checking out the videos has always been a reason to celebrate every single one of you. But while the current archive will remain available for free, starting 2019, new full-length videos will be Patreon-only.
Since YouTube is working extremely hard to make it impossible for small channels with niche content to survive, Patreon is one of the few remaining ways to hopefully see at least some ROI on all the effort that goes into making these videos.
From getting hardware to planning and editing shoots, accommodation costs to gas, toll, repairs and taxes - these costs are adding up quickly. Most important of all, time is limited. These efforts have to start paying for themselves. Otherwise, there's no way this can continue, hence the current 8-season limit if the community-based goal isn't met in August 2020.
Shutting this down would be a shame. There's loads of great content in all kinds of gorgeous locations to share.

First Order - Australia's highway of lighthouses
Garry Searle has spent seven years travelling Australia to document some of the countries most impressive lighthouses for his book First Order - Australia's highway of lighthouses. Many of the lights featured in the book are operated by AMSA and still form a vital part of the Aids to Navigation network. We had a chat with Garry about his experiences writing the book when he came to visit AMSA.
