A Walk In Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park with my daughter.
This is the trail on the way back to the parking lot/trailhead from the Randy Stoltmann Grove.
West Coast Trail: Walbran Creek
This is some footage of us stopping for lunch at Walbran Creek on the WCT. This was a really beautiful site to camp, though we didn't stay here. Had a gorgeous swimming hole (which someone said was pretty warm). Kind of wish we had spent more time here. On the Bamfield to Port Renfrew route (North to South) I would say that time wise, this is approximately the half way point.
Old Growth Walbran - Shaw TV Victoria
The Ancient Forest Alliance & the Port Renfrew Chamber of Commerce would like to see the Walbran protected from logging by Teal Jones. They point out that the value of leaving these old growth trees standing are great for ecotourism, species at risk & climate change. Port Renfrew would like to be know as the Tall Tree capital of the west coast.

Searching for the tallest tree in Canada Part 3
We go for a third attempt to find the Carmanah Giant (aka Canada's tallest tree).
With the hight of 96 meters, or 315 feet, this Sitka Spruce could possibly be the world's tallest tree of its kind. Hidden deep in the untouched, wild old growth forest on Vancouver Island, we hope If to find it we find it and take some great footage with our GoPro, Sony A6300 and DJI drone.

Forest Practices Board Report - BC's Ancient Forests Need More Protection
In response to a complaint filed about ancient redcedars up to 16ft in diameter being logged near Port Renfrew, BC, the Forest Practices Board, a third party government-appointed watchdog, has concluded that there is 'strong public interest' in seeing giant trees and unique stands of old-growth forest protected and that the BC government has the tools to do so.
The report also states in regards to the endangered Avatar Grove (see photo gallery here: 75% of which is open for logging (25% is protected within Old-Growth Management Areas or OGMA's), that current options to protect the unprotected part of the area include creation of a new park or other reserve, or expansion of the existing OGMAs and that If further protection is warranted for Avatar Grove, government has available policy and procedures to guide potential amendment of its land-use objective to protect the area.

West Coast Trail: On The Beach Between Chez Monique's and Carmanah
I have to say that Carmanah ended up being out favorite campground. It was just desolate enough, plenty of firewood & clean water. We had hoped to make it to Bonilla point that night but after a huge burger and a couple beers at Chez Monique's, we had to find the closest campground (which luckily was Carmanah).
Big Lonely Doug - August 2016, from Shaw TV South Island
Big Lonely Doug (BLD) is Canada's second largest Douglas fir tree, only to be discovered after the old-growth forest surrounding it was logged in 2012. As part of the 1% or remaining coastal old-growth Douglas firs, BLD's story highlights the need to protect all of BC's endangered old-growth forests. Check out this video to learn more.

Velcro Ripper; The Road Stops Here, Trying to Save the Walbran Valley, 1991
One of Velcro Ripper's early documentaries illustrating the destruction of the Walbran Valley on the west coast of Vancouver island by Fletcher Challenge. Velcro shows the corageous stand by people concerned about the wholesale destruction of the last old growth forests on Vancouver Island by rapacious multinational corporations parachuting into the Province to cut and run leaving behind a ravaged ecosystem and a ruines logging industry

Some pictures from the world famous Botanical Beach at the northern end of the Juan De Fuca Trail.
Hiking from Botanical to Tom Baird creek is an easy hike (weather dependent) as this section of the trail has many board walks and is mostly flat. Bring a lunch and a fully charged camera, and the day will be over before you know it. Summer and early fall are best for viewing the diversity in the tide pools, but the winter offers more solitude and less people asking you to take their picture.
