Beach camping at Carpinteria State Beach.
Carpinteria State Beach is an excellent white sand beach right in the city of Carpinteria. The state beach starts at Linden Avenue and continues south to Tar Pits Beach at the south end of the park. In between these end points are several campgrounds with over 200 camping spots. At the day-use facility near Linden Avenue you’ll find all the amenities to enjoy a full day here and downtown Carpinteria is nearby with restaurants and shops. Tide pools can be seen at low tide at the south end of the beach near the San Miguel Campground. A lagoon at Carpinteria Creek in the center of the park is a great place for bird-watching. You can walk into the state park from Linden Avenue. If street parking in that area is difficult to find or if you plan on camping here, the main park entrance is on Palm Avenue which you can find on Carpinteria Avenue south of Linden. North of Linden Ave is Carpinteria City Beach where the wide sandy beach continues in front of beachfront homes. Due to tar seeps in the ocean offshore from the state park, tar balls can be found on the beach. Bring some olive oil or another natural oil to clean the tar off your feet at the end of your beach walk.
Franklin Trail Carpinteria California Hiking
Although people have hiked Franklin Canyon since time immemorial the original Franklin Trail dates to 1913, when the forest service built the trail from Carpinteria Valley to The Ridge of the Santa Ynez mountains. This gave hikers and Riders a direct route to the Santa Ynez River. In the 1930s, Franklin Canyon was closed to the public after a fire was attributed to picnickers there. The public then access the trail via the Edison Service Road.
The trail was closed in the 1970s when ranchers whose land iicedicediced became concerned about the transmission of avocado root rot on the feet of hikers and horses. Efforts to reopen the trail by the County Riding and Hiking Trails Advisory Committee and the Montecito Trails Foundation gained momentum when, with the help of the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County, landowners gradually granted easements across their property.
From 2011 to 2013, Friends of the Franklin Trail spearheaded their fundraising efforts with generous Community Support, to rebuild the trail.

Carpinteria Tar Pit Park

Gaviota Beach 10 minutes away from Solvang in California
The waves are soft even in winter. If you have gone to Solvang, it will be a good idea to visit Gaviota Beach; it has a pier, nice wildlife and great rock formations safe for kids to climb and play. There are clams and barnacles around, and cute birds playing with waves. It is part of Gaviota State Park; there is plenty of parking: we didn't pay because it was the New Year's Day, but it seems like there might be a small fee to park; either way it is worth it. It is very close to 101 Freeway. You can take the 101 North from Los Angeles; it is 2 hours away from L.A. The one lane road from the freeway to the beach is short and chances are that you might see some Monarch Butterflies; we came across a swarm. I like to travel, and I like to have a glimpse of the place I am going to before I get there, so I made this short video to show whoever whats to visit Gaviota Beach; you can also stay overnight in your R.V. California Driving Tours - Santa Barbara Downtown in California -
This is the Driving Tour video around Santa Barbara Downtown in California.
About Santa Barbara:
Santa Barbara (Spanish: Santa Bárbara; Spanish for Saint Barbara) is a coastal city in, and the county seat of, Santa Barbara County in the U.S. state of California. Situated on a south-facing section of coastline, the longest such section on the West Coast of the United States, the city lies between the steeply rising Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Santa Barbara's climate is often described as Mediterranean, and the city has been promoted as the American Riviera.[11] As of 2018, the city had an estimated population of 91,350,[9] up from 88,410 in 2010, making it the second most populous city in the county after Santa Maria. The contiguous urban area, which includes the cities of Goleta and Carpinteria, along with the unincorporated regions of Isla Vista, Montecito, Mission Canyon, Hope Ranch, Summerland, and others, has an approximate population of 220,000. The population of the entire county in 2010 was 423,895.
In addition to being a popular tourist and resort destination, the city economy includes a large service sector, education, technology, health care, finance, agriculture, manufacturing, and local government. In 2004, the service sector accounted for fully 35% of local employment. Education in particular is well-represented, with four institutions of higher learning on the south coast (the University of California, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara City College, Westmont College, and Antioch University). The Santa Barbara Airport serves the city, Santa Barbara Aviation provides jet charter aircraft, and train service is provided by Amtrak, which operates the Pacific Surfliner (which runs from San Diego to San Luis Obispo). U.S. Highway 101 connects the Santa Barbara area with Los Angeles roughly 100 miles (160 km) to the southeast and San Francisco around 325 miles (525 km) to the northwest. Behind the city, in and beyond the Santa Ynez Mountains, is the Los Padres National Forest, which contains several remote wilderness areas. Channel Islands National Park and Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary are located approximately 20 miles (32 km) offshore.

Emma Wood State Beach Campground in Ventura California offers primitive camping for fully self-contained vehicles ONLY. Tents are not permitted. No water, restrooms, electricity, fire rings, phones or dump station are available. There are 90 campsites, which are not level and may contain a mixture of asphalt, dirt, cobble and ocean debris. Maximum vehicle length is 40 feet, due to small turnaround areas.
The campground is built on the remnants of the old road and is primarily a location driven park; put this campground anywhere else and no one would go!
There are better choices in the area but if they are all full then this can be a fall-back.
Note there are two Emma Wood camping areas. This one along the old road and beach. A second one next to Ventura RV Resort that is closed as of this report but may become available again for group usage.
The popular coastal bike trail to Ventura passes right by the entrance. In addition the rail line passes through the park.
The address is incorrect for mapping. Use the GPS coordinates.
