CASCADE RIVER STATE PARK ~ MINNESOTA
Come to Cascade for the rushing river and grand waterfalls that lay within a gorge, lush with moss and ferns that grow on black volcanic rocks. Hike the trail through birch, spruce and white cedar; stop to see the views of Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world.
One of the best parts of travel is the people you meet. We had the opportunity to meet with some great people. It's also where you get the best inforamtion of where to go and what to see.
Cascade Falls was always mentioned as a must-see waterfall. It did not disappoint.

Cascade River State Park
One of many Minnesota State Parks along Scenic Highway 61, Cascade River is a stairstepping hikers' paradise of climbs up and down along its namesake river, which is rarely flat.

Melissa H.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Great hiking with waterfalls
This is a quiet no frills campground. The sites are nice and private with trees separating the sites. The shower/bathrooms are great. They also have the hole in the ground toilets spread around the campgound. The hiking trails are great leading you to multiple waterfalls and to Lake Superior. My only issue with this campground is that there isnt any play area for kids.
Theres plenty to do in the areas surrounding this State Park. We drove the Gunflint Trail, went to Lutsen and shopped around Grand Marais. Voyageur Brewing is a fun brewery with good beer.

▶︎ Ranger Review: Renogy Water Filter at Temperance River Campground
Campground Review
Temperance River State Park is just off of scenic Highway 61 north of Duluth, Minnesota about 60 miles. You will be camping near the shores of Lake Superior with expansive views out over the lake from the top of several tall cliffs along the lake.
The campground has a clean bathroom with showers. There is running water available at several spots within the campground as well as at a spout outside the restroom. The sites themselves are large and tree-lined. There is plenty of space for one or two tents or a small RV or travel trailer. We camped in our 1989 16 foot Scamp trailer and had lots of room left in the campsite to cook dinner and set up chairs, as well as plenty of space for our dog to run around.
The campground is close by to many hikes within Temperance River State Park, as well as just down the road from the Superior Hiking Trail, Cascade River State Park, and several other state and national forest areas.
Product Review
As a Ranger for The Dyrt I get products to test from time to time. Today I am testing the Renogy Water Filter. The full video review is below, but I'll give you the rundown here.
Sturdy construction, should last many trips.
Decent flow rate, filled a 32-ounce bottle in about 90 seconds.
Contains input and output tubes, input tube float, and a prefilter.
Filter can be removed or replaced.

Art S.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ One in a series of gorgeous state parks along north Lake Superior
Cascade River State Park is a popular place. In fact all the state parks are along the coast of Lake Superior. There are beautiful hiking trails and access to the Superior Hiking Trail. I made reservations 2 weeks before coming here and was limited in my choices. I had to move to 3 different sites in order to have a longer stay.
Campground Review:
The rangers have limited hours so I got my Minnesota State Park pass and went on to my site. Site 6e was near the toilet, garbage and water. The drive to the site was deceptive. The park may be large but the campground is small. Campsites are close together. On site 19 and 11e I had more privacy but 6e put us on display. Many people stopped by to ask about my camper. Even being close together, I still felt comfortable in my own space at each site. The vault toilets was immaculate and the shower house was pristine. Site 6e had the best cell reception but I got a little at the other sites.
The rangers stopped by to talk. I left them a note asking for some guidance and they promptly followed through. Wonderful people! They even offered to give me an overflow spot so I wouldn’t have to move around.
Hiking trails are the best! Drive to each river and you will find they are each unique. Grand Marais has a perfect donut shop. Drive away from the coast to visit Wild Country Maple Products and get fresh maple syrup - don’t forget the maple candy. Michael was a friendly owner who took time to talk about the entire process. He might even take you on a tour.
Inside tip: consider staying a night or two at different state parks and work your way down the coast.

Going To Gooseberry!!!
Jesse and I go on a road trip to Gooseberry Falls. It was very cold...but pretty incredible. It was peak waterfall season as a lot of the winter snow was starting to melt. Jesse and I have a long conversation about life and I talk about women I had crushes on, the time a raised a baby squirrel, and sleeping in my car during to polar vortex (-24F).
