Language - Cantonese and Portuguese. Time Zone -- GMT + 8 hours. Main Airport - Macau International Airport MFM. Best Time to go -- fall season from October to December. Macau is situated 60 kilometres (37 miles) southwest of Hong Kong and 145 kilometres (90 miles) from Guangzhou. It is one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China; the other being Hong Kong. Macau consists of 4 regions Macau Peninsula (popular tourist area); Taipa (location of the Airport).; Cotai (strip of reclaimed land); and Coloane (beaches and walking). Macau was a Portuguese colony and Portuguese traders first settled in Macau in the 16th century. This has created a distinctly European looking old city in the Macau Peninsula region. Many of the older buildings are located within a UNESCO World Heritage site and the include: Moorish Barracks; Mandarin House; Don Pedro V Theatre; Sir Robert Ho Tung Library; Senate Square (Largo do Senado); St. Dominic's Church; and Mount Fortress. Macau is famous as Asia's largest destination for gambling and attracts busloads from mainland China and weekend trippers from Hong Kong. Most of the casinos are located along the waterfront on the southern side of Macau Peninsula. However, this is likely to be surpassed by the Cotai Strip, which is being developed into The Las Vegas Strip of the East.

MACAU ST. PAULS CATHEDRAL, CHINA
All that remains of of Macau's churches is its magnificent stone facade and grand staircase. The church was built in 1602 adjoining the Jesuit College of St. Paul's, the first Western college in the Far East where missionaries such as Matteo Ricci and Adam Schall studied Chinese before serving at the Ming Court in Beijing as astronomers and mathematicians.
The Ruins Of St Paul’s Cathedral, Mater Dei Church In Macau Is Very Popular
The most popular tourist place in all of Macau according to the Macau tourism and many travel ninjas, The Ruins of St. Paul’s cathedral was built during the 16th century by the Portuguese settlers and has Mount Fortress adjacent to it. The façade stands tall and looks enigmatic as it’s just a wall supported from the rear to give the welcome view to the Catholic Church that was standing at the place centuries ago. It is now brilliantly preserved and attracts numerous tourists from China and all around the world. The rush is unbelievable during the early hours of the day, and the food stalls right across is filled with customers. Believe us, this place is buzzing all day long. It’s just fantastic and you have to admit the cathedral clearly takes the top trophy of being the most famous places in all of Macau. You can look around the entire structure from atop the adjacent Mount Fortress as we said before. Host Karuna and team Vihari had plenty to capture at this stunning place.
St. Paul’s originally was an Educational complex featuring a College and the Catholic Church, known as ‘Mater Dei’, a Portugese origin Church dedicated to the Saint Paul the Apostle. The Church is a symbol of Catholic pride despite it being in the Eastern part of the world. The large complex of buildings were damaged gradually, leaving the beautiful façade looking up to the visitors, who get spell bound by the mystery of how it still stands till now since most of the gigantic complex is in ruins. The entry to the Church façade is made up of 68 stone steps, and the structure today is just a wall supported from the back to make it stand. It is widely said though the Church was built by multiple races of people involving Italian, Japanese and native Chinese which is quite astounding. You will simple love the craftsmanship of the façade, as it is a beauty to behold.
There is a lot of history behind the St Paul's complex which is in ruins today and you can climb up to the existing wall of the Church that is made stiff with metal and concrete support at different places. At the top you have a look at the carvings and have a great view of Macau. The place has been included in the historical Center of Macau which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2005. Just don’t miss visiting this place when you go to Macau. We mean it and the video is the proof. Watch it now!
