Cookout Daily Express: Cayman Islands National Museum
Cookout Daily Express is a short video series highlighting the abundance of things to do in the Cayman Islands, like visiting the popular Cayman Islands National Museum.
In this inaugural episode, we meet up with Programs Coordinator Mya Motto for a tour of the Cayman Islands National Museum. Located in George Town, the museum celebrates Cayman's natural and cultural history. The natural history portion of the museum displays fantastic birds and fauna that are native to the islands, whereas the cultural history half of the site demonstrates the lush heritage of the Caymanian people.

An exhibit 'steeped' in Cayman tradition
Memories of old Cayman converged with the present on the George Town waterfront Saturday. As carnival revellers prepared for a third week of street parades, a different showing of Caymanian tradition went on display in the Cayman Islands National Museum.
Mariner, welder and collector Alvin McLaughlin unveiled the museum’s newest exhibit, ‘Steeped in Tradition’, a testament to his work to preserve island heritage.
For 32 years, McLaughlin chaired the Pirates Week East End Heritage Committee and during that time, he sought to weave Caymanian tradition and history into the celebration. Part of his work included his antiquities collection, an assortment of items that provide a glimpse into the islands’ past. Those items – from Grandpa Obediah’s swanky jar and a gas-powered clothes iron to copper kettles and silver pitchers – now make up the Alvin McLaughlin Collection housed at the museum.

Georgetown Grand Cayman Cruise Port Area Tour (4K)
See what the cruise port area of Georgetown, Grand Cayman looks like after taking a tender boat ride from the ship. Cruise ships tender here because the waters are too shallow to dock.
The Grand Cayman Cruise Port landing area has several zones- the South Terminal, the North Terminal & Royal Watler Terminal. There were lots of shopping abound as well as you walk down Church St which becomes Harbour Dr- the Bayshore Mall, Turtle Bay, Margaritaville, Tortuga Duty Free, Churchill's Cigars, plus various shops at Royal Watler.
There was a small beach at the port area, though we did not see anyone on there, so it likely is off limits. The industrial port area near Grand Cayman Port Authority provides a nice view of all the cruise ships anchored. We observed the Carnival sensation, Carnival Dream, MSC Opera, Star Clipper Star Flier, the Celebrity Equinox and our ship the MS Eurodam.
The walk itself had some historical locations such as Hog Sty Bay, the Grand Cayman National Museum and Fort George. You can actually spend the whole day in this area shopping, people-watching, and enjoying the beautiful scenery.
