The Centre Pompidou opened on the 28th of March 2016 and is house in El Cubo, a cuboid shaped glass construction in the Málaga port. Within the first three months of conception, it received roughly 76 thousand visitors. Its richness and expansiveness is clear through its seven sections: metamorphoses, the political body, the body in pieces, self-portraits, man without a face, the workshop of Brancusi, and a final part that is dedicated to the architecture of the first Pompidou Centre in Paris. Exhibitions and workshops take place here, as well as other fun activities such as dance, film and spoken word.

The Pompidou Malaga is is famous for the Cube, located in the privileged corner of the port. However the structure made of glass is just the tip of the iceberg for the two underground floors. In total, the two floors have the area of 6,300 square meters. Two thousands square meters are dedicated to the exhibition of artworks: 1,665 m2 for the permanent collection and up to 365 m2 for temporary exhibitions.
The public budget allocated for the project is about 4.2 million euros per year. The City agrees to pay annually to the Centre Pompidou 2.07 million euros per year: one million euros in monthly fees for using the brand and 1.07 million for expenses incurred insurance, transport and technical staff. The works have costed 6.7 million euros, 50% more than originally budgeted. The City hopes to raise 990,000 euros from the tickets bought by the estimated 250,000 visitors annually, a prudent figure according to City Hall. They have announced up to six sponsors who could provide some 3 million euros during the first 5 years of the Centre.
Pompidou Centre in Paris have agreed to the loan of 93 art works. This loan will remain intact during the two year duration of this first 'permanent exhibition', curated by Brigitte Leal and supervised by José María Luna. The first permanent collection will have just less than 100 pieces entitled “A multi-disciplined exhibition on choreographic art and body themes” including works of Pablo Ruiz Picasso, Rineke Dijkstra(Photography), Tony Oursler, Frida Kahlo, Francis Bacon, Max Ernst, René Magritte, Chirico, Alberto Guacometti and Sophie Calle, among others. High definition projections in the exhibition halls mixed with life performance and an intense program of projections of video dance in the auditorium shows the most recent choreographic tendencies and is called “Show me your moves”

The Centre Pompidou Malaga is the first one that this Parisian art institution has opened outside France. The Centre Pompidou will be inaugurated in spring 2015 in an unique building, known as “the Cube”, which was built in 2013 in the special space of the seaport, located near the numerous cultural and tourist attractions of the city.
The center proposes all public to feel the experience of the Centre Pompidou through its wealthy collection, its excellent schedules, the mutual interference of artistic disciplines and its innovative mediation programs. Malaga, birthplace of Picasso and an international tourist destination place, positions the culture and the museums in the center of a new stage of its development
The colection
The exhibition presented by the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou Malaga is divided into five topics: las metamorfosis, el cuerpo en pedazos, el cuerpo político, autorretratos, el hombre sin rostro (the metamorphosis, the body in pieces, the political body, self-portraits and the man without a face). They are extended pointing in two directions. It is an emblematic building and a unique cultural model.
In Malaga, the Centre Pompidou will offer a permanent exhibition of several dozens of works of the impressionist collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, inviting the public to explore the art of the XX and XXI centuries. Some of the names in the first presentation of the collections, which exceeds the 90 pieces, suffice to highlight the importance of the project: Francis Bacon, Georg Baselitz, Constantin Brâncuși, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Giorgio de Chirico, Max Ernst, Alberto Giacometti, Jean Hélion, Frida Kahlo, Fernand Léger, René Magritte, Joan Miró, Francis Picabia, Pablo Picasso, Antoni Tàpies, Jean Tinguely and Kees Van Dongen.
Along with this permanent presence, two or three temporary exhibitions, either thematic or monographic, will be presented per year. These exhibitions will explore the different parts of the collection (photography, design, architecture, and video). This experience will be lived through multidisciplinary programs dedicated to the dance, the performance, the word and the cinema, helped by devices intended mostly for a younger audience.

The world famous gallery Centre Pompidou has come to Malaga. Without doubt the Pompidou art center in Paris is one of the greatest homes of twentieth century art. In line with the arresting appearance of the Pompidou in Paris the Malaga collection will be housed in the large glass cube, built with a cultural purpose in mind and which is situated at the corner which joins Muelle Uno and Muelle Dos of Malaga’s newly renovated port. The new Malaga Pop-Up museum houses a fine selection of its French mother.
Until now the only offshoot of the Pompidou Centre has been in northern France, the Pompidou-Metz. The Malaga collection, called ‘Centro Pompidou Málaga’ is the first branch outside France and will add to the city’s already impressive range of art galleries – the Museo Picasso, the Museo Carmen Thyssen and the ‘Centro de Arte Contemporáneo’ (contemporary art centre or CAC). The mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, says that the agreement which will last five years with the option of a further five years, is “great news for cultural Malaga, tourist Malaga and technological Malaga”.
The alliance, signed by the mayor and Alain Seban, the president of the Pompidou Centre, will cost the city council a million euros annually for the use of the name, the loan of artworks and a temporary exhibition once a year. This figure, according to De la Torre, is “acceptable even during an economic crisis”.

[4K] MALAGA PORT (2019) NIGHT WALKING TOUR - Cafes, bars and nightlife
The port of Málaga comes alive at night in 4k in this virtual tour of the harbour and it's nightlife at the end of the 2019 Carnival weekend.
We begin near the Lighthouse (La Farola De Málaga or The Lamp of Málaga.) We follow the lines of bustling cafes, bars and restaurants along the Paseo del Muelle Uno, with the sinking sun to our left. The majestic Trasmediterránea Málaga to Melilla ferry sits at harbour all lit up, with the Ferris Wheel, Mirador Princess visible behind.
Most of the store stay open late, so early evening is a great time to do a bit of Malaga night shopping or simply enjoy the best of Malaga city nightlife.
We pass the Chapel of the port of Malaga before heading to the Centre Pompidou Málaga - a distinctive mutlicoloured cube that houses the famous contemporary art museum.
We visit the open art gallery to the side, with it's cool and trendy bar (and good place to hire bikes - QQ Bikes or try a Segway.)
From here, we walk beneath the majestic Pérgola Zigzagueante Muelle Uno before catching a pair of tango dancers entertaining the passers by.
