LAM DAL LAKE , DHAULADHAR RANGE , DHARAMSHALA
Lam is the longest lake of DHAULADHAR nearly 1.5 kms long.It is an L shaped water body in the higher reaches of DHAULADHAR.The mighty DHAULADHAR range act as a barrier and seperates KANGRA valley from CHAMBA / RAVI valley.Lam Dal lake lies just across the DHAULADHAR on the CHAMBA side. The trek from DHARAMSHALA side is across this steep mountain range. Many passes can be crossed over from DHARAMSHALA side to reach this holy lake.It is in fact a trek junction point.INDRAHARA,BHIMGHASUTRI,GAJ,MINKIANI,BALENI passes can be crossed to visit this holy lake. The choice is entirely on the trekkers and they can do a round trek starting from DHARAMSHALA , cross over one pass and make a return trip via another pass. The access from CHAMBA side is via a long trail along the LAM DAL nallah. This easy trail can be followed from DUNALLI side. Some pilgrims from CHATRARI/KOOR side also use this pass via DHAM GHORI.Since there are many lakes in the vicinity of LAM DAL lake,it is also called as the lake county of DHAULADHAR.Many pilgrims undertake a difficult trek where all these lakes can be visited in a single trip.Starting from INDRAHARA pass one reaches the holy lake NAG DAL,followed by KALI DAL,DHAM GHORI DAL,CHANDERKUP DAL,SURAJ KUND,LAM DAL,KALI KUND,NAGARA DAL.From NAGARA if one crosses MINKIANI pass one reaches KARERI lake thus this completes the entire lakes trek. This route is very tough and totally unmarked.Even experienced trekkers who have been here innumerable times lose way so the services of a good guide are a must on this route.

Hangul || Kashmir Stag / Kashmir Red Deer
The Kashmir stag (Cervus hanglu hanglu), also called Hangul, formerly considered as a subspecies of elk, is native to Indian administered Kashmir Valley and the adjacent state of Himachal Pradesh, India.
After latest researches and surveys it's been declared that this is a completely different species and therefore changing its name from Cervus canadensis hanglu to Cervus hanglu hanglu.
It is found in dense riverine forests in the high valleys and mountains of the Kashmir Valley and northern Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh.
Earlier believed to be a subspecies of red deer (Cervus elaphus), a number of mitochondrial DNA genetic studies have revealed that the hangul is part of the Asian clade of the elk (Cervus canadensis).
The IUCN, however, includes it in the new grouping of Central Asian red deer (Cervus hanglu), with the Kashmir stag being the type subspecies (Cervus hanglu hanglu).
This deer has a light rump patch without including the tail. Its coat color is brown with a speckling to the hairs. Hangul has magnificent antlers with 11 to 16 points.
This deer lives in groups of two to 18 (sometimes even more) individuals in dense riverine forests, high valleys, and mountains of the Kashmir valley and northern Chamba in Himachal Pradesh.
In Kashmir, it's found in the Dachigam National Park (and its nearby areas at elevations of 3,035 meters), Rajparian Wildlife Sanctuary, Overa Aru, Sind Valley, and in the forests of Kishtwar & Bhaderwah.
They are now scattered within 141 km² of the Dachigam National Park located on foothills of Zabarwan range on the outskirts of Srinagar.
Known for its magnificent antlers with 11 to 16 points, hangul was once distributed widely in the mountains of Kashmir.
During the 1940s, their number was believed to be about 3,000-5,000. This dwindled to as low as 150 animals by 1970. .
However, the state of Jammu & Kashmir, along with the IUCN and the WWF prepared ‘’Project Hangul’’ for the protection of these animals. This brought great results and the population increased to over 340 by 1980.
As per the census in 2008, only around 160 exist. In 2015, the Hangul population estimation exercise was conducted in which the count of Hanguls in and around their habitats in Kashmir valley is just 186.
There are plans to breed them in captivity to increase their chances of survival.
