CHANDNI CHOWK | SAREES,FOOD,JEWELLERY & MORE
In the heart of Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk is a busy shopping area with markets full of spices, dried fruit, silver jewelry and vivid saris, while the narrow side streets are crowded with tiny shops selling essential oils, stationery and traditional Indian sweets. Nearby, the vast Mughal-era Red Fort now houses a museum complex, and the 17th-century Jama Masjid is a huge red-sandstone mosque with towering minarets.
Only few people know that within the Chandni Chowk, there is Asia's biggest camera market

What all we saw in Chandini Chowk? The first that came into our sight was Digambar Jain Lal Temple. Further we passed through the SHiva Temple, the Sikh Temple, and the Chunnamaal Haveli. We then stopped in front of Fathepuri Masjid and walked to explore Spice Market. From there we returned in our Cycle Rikshaw through the shoe market to Ghalib's Haveli. Then came Naughara and after that we had out Chola Bhatura Lunch. The last thing that we saw there was Jama Masjid, the largest masjid in whole Delhi. Jama Masjid is close to Chandini Chowk and Red Fort.

New Delhi, India Shopping Guide - Chandni Chowk
Jewelry, sarees, spices, and the crowds in a traditional Indian market.
Getting There/Directions:
Metro - Chandni Chowk Stop
Other options are to take a taxi or autorickshaw. Get off at the entrance and walk through the narrow market streets to Chandni Chowk.
Other Information:
Chandni Chowk has many markets that sell jewelery, spices, metals, nuts, books, clothes, shoes, electrical goods, antiques, medical equipment, chemicals, bicycles, paranthas etc.
India is a country that can be intriguing and overwhelming for first time tourists, and the same can be said about the local market here called Chandni Chowk. Here, you will be surrounded by hundreds of people, you have to see it to believe it. Jewelry is a big part of Indian culture, it is a common gift item in the festivals and weddings.
This area of Chandni Chowk, you can see all kinds of beautiful Sari's and handlooms. Indian textiles are very popular internationally and are exported in large quantities. Sari is a traditional dress in India and a lot of women come to buy these for their weddings. While you walk into the stores to check out the Sari's, you might encounter some kind of sale special from the shopkeepers. We have come to Chandni Chowk because of wide range of variety and prices are also less compared to other markets.
Well, if you ever wanted to learn a lot about the Indian spices and dried fruits, there is no place better than this. Come here, experience tastes, smell. This place is brimming with activity. What is special about this (spice market)? Here you get all kinds of spices, dry fruits and pickles. Lot of it is exported as well. This place is full of temples. Some are small, some are big. This is the Shani Dev Temple, one of the many temples that you have here. It seems religion and commerce go hand in hand. I am Vikrant Gupta, showing you my city.

Driving Around in Old Delhi (Chandni Chowk) - India 2017
The Chandni Chowk (Moonlight Square) is one of the oldest and busiest markets in Old Delhi, India. Chandni Chowk is located close to Old Delhi Railway Station. The market was once divided by canals (now closed) to reflect moonlight and remains one of India's largest wholesale markets.
The Red Fort is a historic fort in the city of Delhi in India. It was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal dynasty for nearly 200 years, until 1857.
Constructed in 1639 by the fifth Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as the palace of his fortified capital Shahjahanabad, the Red Fort is named for its massive enclosing walls of red sandstone and is adjacent to the older Salimgarh Fort.
Salimgarh Fort was built in 1546 AD, in Delhi, in a former island of the Yamuna River, by Salim Shah Suri, son of Sher Shah Suri. There was a pause in Mughal rule when in 1540 AD Sher Shah Suri defeated the Mughal Emperor Humayun (and ousted him from Delhi) and established the Sur dynasty rule in Delhi. Sur dynasty rule lasted till 1555 AD when Humayun regained his kingdom by defeating Sikander Suri, the last ruler of the dynasty.

Sadar Bazar & Chandni Chowk (moonlit market), Delhi - India
Sadar Bazar Market in Delhi is the biggest wholesale market in the city. Sadar Bazar Market is also a hub of social, political and commercial activities. The place is filled with commotion, hustle and bustle of a typical market place. The entire marketplace is like an intricate network and there are zigzag streets and narrow thoroughfares so it is not possible to take any vehicle into the market. Owing to the crowd and its lack of place, it is better to travel on foot.
Chandni Chowk, built in the 17th century by the Mughal emperor of India Shah Jahan, and designed by his daughter Jahan Ara, the market was once divided by canals (now closed) to reflect moonlight, and it remains one of India's largest wholesale markets.

Chandni Chowk Markets, Old Delhi
Chandni Chowk is the largest trading center of North India, and is located in the main street of Old Delhi. Situated opposite the Red Fort, the bazaar has several lanes, each representing a specialty of this market -- with a jewelry lane, textile lane, and so on. It was built in 1650 AD as an accompaniment to the Red Fort on the banks of River Yamuna. A large chowk (square) with a central pool was built at some distance from the fort. The story goes that on a moonlit night, the new complex and the pool lay shimmering; as a result, it acquired the name of Chandni Chowk -- the moonlit square.
