kashveti church ⛪️ Orthodox church in Tbilisi, Georgia
The Kashveti church was constructed between 1904 and 1910 by the architect Leopold Bilfeldt, who based his design on the medieval Samtavisi Cathedral. The construction was sponsored by the Georgian nobility and bourgeoisie. Kashveti was built on the site of a damaged church built of brick at the request of the Amilakhvari family in 1753. Significant contributions to the current church's ornate design were made by N. Agladze. Kashveti's frescoes were painted by the influential Georgian painter, Lado Gudiashvili, in 1947.
The name kashveti is derived from Georgian words kva for a stone and shva to give birth. Legend has it the prominent 6th century monk David of Gareja of the Thirteen Assyrian Fathers was accused by a woman of making her a pregnant in Tbilisi. David prophesied his denial would be proved when she gave birth to a stone. She did, and the place received the name of kashveti.
Orthodox Church marks St. George Day
Orthodox Church marks St. George Day
The Georgian Orthodox Church and the whole Christian Christendom is commemorating St. George's day on May 6 with church services devoted to the saint being held across the country.
Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi and Mitropolit of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazeti Eparchy, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II conducted a festive liturgy at Kashueti St. George Church in Tbilisi earlier this afternoon.
In line with Orthodox traditions, St. George is known as the Holy Great Martyr, Victory-Bearer and Wonderworker. Church legend has it that he was born between 275 and 285 in Nicomedia in Asia Minor (present-day Turkey).
According to legend, Roman Emperor Diocletian noticed him for his bravery and enlisted him in his imperial guard, promoting him to a senior commander, Tribune.
When Diocletian issued an edict to arrest all Christian soldiers in the army in 302 A.D., St. George gave all his wealth to the poor, freed his servants, came to the emperor and openly spoke out against pagan gods, confessing himself a Christian.
The emperor was unable to talk the saint into worshipping pagan gods, neither could the torture he subjected him to, and St. George was beheaded on April 23, 303 (May 6, 303, in line with the Orthodox calendar).

Description
English: Sculpture of St Giles - Parish church Hooke This sculpture of the saint was made by Benjamin Grassby in the 19th century. Grassby was an architectural sculptor and monumental stone mason of Dorchester.
The firm of Grassby, stonemasons of Dorchester, is still going strong today.
St Giles is the patron saint of cripples: a hermit born in Athens in the 8th century he spent much of his life in France where he lived in a forest for some of the time living off the milk of a female deer. Eventually the deer was shot at with an arrow by the king's hunters who wounded the hermit instead. Out of great respect for Giles and his miracles, the king built an abbey when he died, Saint Gilles-du-Gard. His saint's day is 1st September.

Quran Ke Tarikhi (Historical) Maqamat - Part 9
According to Bedouin tradition, this is the mountain where God gave laws to the Israelites. However, the earliest Christian traditions place this event at the nearby Mount Serbal, and a monastery was founded at its base in the 4th century; it was only in the 6th century that the monastery moved to the foot of Mount Catherine, following the guidance of Josephus's earlier claim that Sinai was the highest mountain in the area. Jebel Musa, which is adjacent to Mount Catherine, was only equated with Sinai, by Christians, after the 15th century. Also, for Muslims, there is a chapter named after this mountain in the Quran, entitled, Surah-Tin; surah/chapter 95. In which God promises by the fig, the olive, by the Mount Sinai and the city of Makkah. Orthodoxies settled down on this mountain in the III century, Georgians moved in Sinai in VI century, although Georgian colony was formed in the IX century. Georgians erected their own temples in this area. The construction of one of the temples was connected with the name of David The Builder, who contributed to erecting of temples not only in Georgia but abroad too. The construction of the temple on Sinai Mountain was not only religious step; furthermore it had a great political and cultural meaning. Georgian monks, living there were deeply connected with motherland. The temple had it`s own plots in Kartli. Part of the Georgian manuscripts of Sinai still remain there but some of them are kept in Tbilisi, St. Petersburg, Prague, New York, Paris and in private collections.
Many modern biblical scholars now believe that the Israelites would have crossed the Sinai peninsula in a straight line, rather than detouring to the southern tip (assuming that they did not cross the eastern branch of the Red Sea/Reed Sea in boats or on a sandbar), and therefore look for Mount Sinai elsewhere.
The Song of Deborah, which textual scholars consider to be one of the oldest parts of the bible, suggests that Yahweh dwelt at Mount Seir, so many scholars favour a location in Nabatea (modern Arabia). Alternatively, the biblical descriptions of Sinai can be interpreted as describing a volcano, and so a small number of scholars have considered equating Sinai with locations in north western Saudi Arabia; there are no volcanoes in the Sinai Peninsula.
The summit of the mountain has a mosque and a Greek Orthodox chapel (which was constructed in 1934 on the ruins of a 16th century church) neither of which are open to the public. The chapel supposedly encloses the rock from which God made the Tablets of the Law. [4] At the summit also is Moses' cave where Moses waited to receive the Ten Commandments.
