The Holly Grail
Available on:
Is the Holy Grail sought after by the Knights of the Round Table the very one and the same that is venerated in the Cathedral of Valencia, the one used by Jesus Christ at the Last Supper? And if it were, how would it have gotten from Jerusalem to Spain?
This passionate program addresses those questions in a surprising manner. Spanish and German researchers clearly demonstrate that the agate chalice venerated in Valencia dates from the time of Christ and is very probably the cup used by Our Lord to institute the Eucharist. They also provide proof that the Holy Grail of the Arthurian Legends was the same object that European pilgrims on the Way of St. James saw at St. John of the Rock in the Pyrenees on their way to Santiago de Compostela in the middle ages, the same chalice later taken to Valencia. It was, thus, the very goblet that inspired the medieval novels of knights errant, Wagner’s opera, the writings of Tolkien and so many modern movies. This program restores all of this to its authentic historical and religious context.

Beautiful Place of Spain, Visit Valencia Cathedral
The #Metropolitan #CathedralBasilica of the Assumption of Our Lady of #Valencia (Spanish: Iglesia Catedral-Basílica Metropolitana de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora de Valencia, Valencian: Església Catedral-Basílica Metropolitana de l'Assumpció de la Nostra Senyora de València), alternatively known as Saint Mary's Cathedral or Valencia Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic parish church in Valencia, #Spain.
The cathedral was consecrated in 1238 by the first bishop of Valencia after the Reconquista, Pere d'Albalat, Archbishop of Tarragona, and was dedicated by order of James I the Conqueror to Saint Mary. It was built over the site of the former Visigothic cathedral, which under the Moors had been turned into a mosque. The Valencian Gothic is the predominant architectural style of the cathedral, although it also contains #Romanesque, #French #Gothic, #Renaissance, #Baroque and #NeoClassical elements.
The cathedral contains numerous 15th-century paintings, some by local artists (such as Jacomart), others by artists from Rome engaged by the Valencian Pope Alexander VI who, when still a cardinal, made the request to elevate the Valencian See to the rank of metropolitan see, a category granted by Pope Innocent VIII in 1492.
One of the supposed #Holy#Chalices in the world is revered in one of this cathedral's chapels; this chalice has been defended as the true Holy Grail. It was the official papal chalice for many popes, and has been used by many others, most recently by Pope Benedict XVI, on July 9, 2006. This chalice with Arabic inscriptions dates from the 1st century, and was given to the cathedral by king Alfonso V of Aragon in 1436.
Valencia #Cathedral was of great importance for Iberian sacred music and had many notable composers as mestre de capella. The musicologist Josep Climent Barber (ca) (b. 1927) has conducted considerable research into the music of Valencia Cathedral.

VALENCIA Cathedral, 2016
Built on the site of a Roman temple, which later became a mosque the origins of the cathedral date back to the 13th century. It has various architectural styles, from the Romanesque to the baroque, as can be observed on the three doors: The main door, or Puerta de los Hierros, is baroque; the Puerta de los Apóstoles is gothic and the Puerta del Palau is Romanesque. The Miguelete belfry was built in the 13th and 14th centuries and was designed by Andrés Juliá Torre; it is octagonal, 50.85m high and built in a markedly baroque style, next to the main entrance. There is a spiral stairway inside that leads to the terrace, where there are views of the city, the countryside and the sea. The Santo Cáliz Chapel, the old Sala Capitular y de Estudios (1356) was originally a Chapter House and study and was separate from the cathedral. The Holy Chalice that according to tradition was used by Christ during the last Supper is kept inside. The Obra Nova or Balconets de Cabildo were built over three floors next to the cathedral dome and they dominate the Plaza de la Virgen. It was a renaissance work of a triple serlienne arcade.

10 Places You Might Find the Holy Grail
The Holy Grail. Since the dark ages, tales of a mystical, magical chalice have reverberated throughout history and literature, inspiring countless adventures to seek the famed relic. Practically synonymous with King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, grail romances became especially popular in Medieval Europe. Made popular in modern times by such icons as Monty Python and Indiana Jones, the grail continues to intrigue the masses. As a result, many places have since been claimed to harbor the revered object, either lost, hidden, or on display for all to see.
The Holy Grail could refer to a number of things:
The chalice or bowl used by Christ at the last supper, the vessel used to collect Christ’s blood during or after the crucifixion or a symbolic reference to Mary Magdalene, Christ’s alleged offspring with her and resulting bloodline.
The fact is, damn near every plate, cup, chalice, goblet, bowl, and jar dating from antiquity to the middle ages has been declared the holy grail at some point or another. There are literally hundreds of places throughout the world connected to the grail legend, ranging from obscure to world-known, from possible to rather laughable.
We’ve narrowed the pool to ten places that are the most likely candidates for the chalice’s current resting place.
10. Fort Knox, Kentucky, United States
9. Jerusalem
8. Chateau de Montsegur, France
7. Genoa, Italy
6. Rennes-le-Chateau
5. Valencia, Spain
4. Rosslyn Chapel, Scotland
3. Glastonbury, England
2. Leon
Honorable Mentions: The Louvre Paris, Château de Montserrat, Oak Island Nova Scotia, Accokeek Maryland
1. Shropshire
Fort Knox
This Kentucky military base is home to the US Bullion Depository, one of--if not the--most fortified compounds on Earth.
Besides holding more than 4,000 metric tons of gold bullion, the American fort has housed many other precious artifacts, especially during times of conflict, including the Declaration of Independence, a copy of the Magna Carta, a Gutenberg Bible, and the Hungarian Crown Jewels.
According to rumors, there is a secret vault within the depository that houses the grail, the ark of the covenant, even dna of Christ himself. Speculators believe were the grail to exist, Fort Knox would be its most likely home simply due to the fort’s impenetrability.
Jerusalem
If the vessel does exists, there’s a good chance it never left Jerusalem.
Some likely places include:
At or underneath the Dome of the Rock, the Western Wall, or elsewhere amidst the foundation of the old Temple.
Somewhere under Jerusalem, perhaps in a secret cache, the sewers or catacombs. Archaeologists are constantly finding ancient discoveries beneath Jerusalem. Many believe the Ark of the Covenant is there.
This is especially likely if the Holy Grail isn’t particularly special at all. Any 2000-year-old cup or vessel is likely buried deep in an ancient rubbish pile.
Montsegur, France
Used to be the seat for a popular hermetic religious group known as the Cathars or Albigensians. Officially declared a heresy by the Holy See, the fort was successfully besieged and overtaken by 10,000 French royal troops. More than 200 Cathars were burned on pyres.
Montsegur is often attributed to Montsalvat, the legendary Grail Castle in Wolfram von Eschenbach’s romance, Parzival.
