World’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the Swiss Alps
World’s longest suspension bridge in Switzerland accessible from the town of Randa near Zermatt, was opened on 29 July 2017.
The 494 meter footbridge forms part of the Europaweg walking trail, one of Switzerland’s most famous. The two-day hike links Grächen and Zermatt.
In 2010, the previous bridge was closed because of ground instability. Since then hikers have had to descend 500 meters into the valley before climbing back up even higher.
The new bridge hangs 200 meters lower than the old one. 65 cm wide its 53 mm cables weigh 8 tonnes.

Crossing the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge (Randa, Switzerland)
Located in the heart of the Valais Alps in Switzerland, the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge was inaugurated on July 29th, 2017 and is the longest in the world with its 494 meters. It dominates the bottom of the valley by 85 meters and is only 85 cm wide. This bridge takes part of the Europaweg between Grächen and Zermatt and is a replacement of the former Europabrücke that was shut down in 2010 due to the risk of landslides.
I took this video on August 19th, 2017 during my hike from Randa to the Europahütte.

Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge: Switzerland opens longest suspension bridge in world - TomoNews
ZERMATT, SWITZERLAND — A new suspension bridge has opened in Switzerland that will give thrill-seeking pedestrians incredible views of the scenic Bernese Alps.
The Charles Kuonen[m] Suspension Bridge is 494 meters long and 65 centimeters wide. The footbridge can only be crossed in single file, New Atlas reported.
The bridge connects the resort towns of Grächen [n]and Zermatt [o]at a height of 85m.
The bridge uses hydraulic cylinders to regulate tension and prevent it from swinging.
The now former world's longest suspension footbridge is the 390-meter long Kokonoe [p]Dream bridge in Japan. It is about 100m shorter than the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge.
The Zermatt tourism office said the bridge is most suitable for hikers with no fear of heights as it is possible to look into the precipice below one's feet through the grated surface.

WALKING THE CHARLES KUONEN SUSPENSION BRIDGE IN SWITZERLAND | Longest Suspension Bridge
Today we hiked up to the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge in Randa, Switzerland.
SWITZERLAND | Charles Kuonen Hängebrücke (WORLD’S LONGEST SUSPENSION BRIDGE) | Day 5 | Sep 2018
SWITZERLAND | Charles Kuonen Hängebrücke (WORLD’S LONGEST SUSPENSION BRIDGE) | Day 5 | September 2018
That morning, I decided to randomly get on a train and hop off if I see somewhere nice. I sat next to these jolly fellas on the train: Yoosoo, a chemical engineer from South Korea, and Yusaku, a biotechnology student from Japan. They told me they were going on a hike to a record-holder suspension bridge, so I joined in.
It was harder than I expected..we started from a quaint town called Randa, and hiked up to Hängebrücke, where we had the best view of Mt. Weisshorn (4,506 m tall). ????
With the bridge’s highest point at 85 m and 500m in length, it is the longest suspension bridge in the world. ???? The weather was glorious, the circular hike (8.7km zigzag up down part of the Europaweg trail) and the views were amazing, but meeting cool people made it a lot more interesting! ????

Quick Trip to the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge
Waiting for a few weeks finally the weather was supposed to be great at the weekend. Good enough to spend a day at the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge
When you park in Randa you can chose two routes to get to the bridge. left and right basically head right if you want a not so steep way up, less sunexposure and finishes at the bridgeside with the great view. thats the route I took and I am super glad this local guy at the parkinglot told me to head right
Left is more exhausting and one finishes the bridge on the side that doesn't have the best view.

Walk on the world's longest suspension bridge - near Randa in Switzerland.
To get to this bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the world, take the train from Zermatt to Randa. That takes about 20 minutes. Then follow the sign to Hängebrücke. After walking up the mountain for about an hour, you will reach the very impressive Hängebrücke / suspension bridge.
I felt safe walking on the 500 meter long bridge, which is free to cross. Still, it was an emotionally strong experience being surrounded by the very high mountains on all sides. Crossing the bridge, I was a little surprised about myself. I experienced that my heart pumped quicker and could hear myself breathing faster. Also, I felt very little seeing the incredibly high mountains on all sides.
If you still have energy left after walking over the bridge, continue walking up the mountain to the hut Europahütte, which is about a 30 minute walk or so from the bridge. Visiting the hut Europabrücke, I tried their homemade chocolate cake and a cup of coffee. It was wonderful. The people managing the cafe there also have a really kind dog.
