Our camping holiday was not complete without fossil hunting at Charmouth Jurassic Coast in Dorset, United Kingdom. It is one of the safest place for fossil hunting.

Children did enjoy swimming in the cold sea and fossil hunting. It was a wonderful experience.
And if happens you can't find any fossils on the beach. You can purchase one at Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre.

If you plan to join fossil hunting walk, reservation is a must, online or over telephone.

Take a hammer for cracking open some stones.

The history of Charmouth dates back to the Iron Age when a Celtic tribe, the Durotriges, founded a settlement. Evidence of hill forts can still be seen in the area. The name Charmouth originated from the Saxon 'Cerne' meaning stony river, Charmouth was therefore known as 'Cernmunde'.

We spend a fantastic winters' day walking on Charmouth Beach. Renowned for fossils, we do a little fossil hunting, and stand in awe below the Jurrasic Coast rockface, An amazing beach, and a really fun day out!!
