Shop with a Cop video, Cottonwood, Arizona, Dec. 10, 2011
Thanks to the Cottonwood and Verde Valley Police and Sheriff's Departments, Yavapai-Apache Nation, and sworn officers from Arizona Game and Fish and Arizona State Parks, Cottonwood/Verde Valley area kids had an exceptional Christmas in 2011. Many thanks to Jason Ferris and associates from Walmart, Cottonwood, who host this event every year. The day starts with breakfast at the Cottonwood Public Safety Building, and from there everyone goes to the airport to watch Santa coming into town. From there, everyone proceeds to Walmart, where all the cops help all the kids pick out toys. Then everyone goes to a specially decorated room in Walmart, where cookies and juice are available, and kids get their picture taken with their cop and Santa. The Mingus Union High School cheerleaders wrap the presents and then the kids head for home. It's an incredible experience! In this video, Arizona State Parks Ranger Max Castillo helps his kid get his toys wrapped. It's all fun, and noisy!

Meet Eric J. Herman, DVM
Dr. Herman has been working in referral surgical hospitals since 2001. After early acceptance into veterinary school, Dr. Herman earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University. He was president of multiple veterinary associations and was on the National Board for the Veterinary Business Management Association as a Regional Leader. His internship was at the world-renowned Animal Medical Center in Manhattan, New York. He had the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the world in interventional radiology and minimally invasive surgery. This led to his acceptance for surgical residency at MedVet Medical and Cancer Centers for Pets, which is the largest private practice referral hospital in the country. While there, he gained extensive training in small animal oncologic, abdominal, thoracic, neurologic and orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Herman’s surgical expertise involves laparoscopic, thoracoscopic, arthroscopic surgery, minimally invasive fracture repair and interventional radiology. He performs both Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) and Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) procedures for canine cranial cruciate disease. He helps clients choose which of these procedures is best for the individual pet, based on the orthopedic examination and results of diagnostic testing.
Dr. Herman has lectured on a wide array of topics. These include urinary interventional radiology, advanced laparoscopic and thoracoscopic techniques, intervertebral disc disease, vacuum-assisted wound closure, portosystemic shunts, gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV), thoracic neoplasia and bullous emphysema. Some of Dr. Herman’s research interests involve how to reduce implant associated infections, minimally invasive surgical procedures and gastropexy techniques.
Rural Health care update on America's Opioid Crisis
House lawmakers passed a package of 58 bills in recent weeks—all bent on addressing america’s opioid crisis. But experts worry these measures are just tinkering around the edge. RFD-TV’s Sarah Mock has more.
Congress has a message for communities struggling with the opioid crisis – help is on the way.
“It’s high time we do it. It is a very strong and good step in the right direction. It will advance treatment and recover. It will improve prevention. It will give resources to communities, and it will fight deadly drugs like fentanyl.”
The support for patients and communities act passed the house on a bipartisan vote of 396 to 14, and included a number of critical provisions to help both urban and rural communities, from programs to study the effectiveness of treatment to incentives for medical professionals to use non-opioid alternatives.
“H.R 6 includes policies to expand the number and types of providers who can administer the medication such as naloxone to opioid addicted patients and it allows medicare to pay for opioid treatment programs. This will help people suffering from opioid use disorder get access to the critical treatment they need on the day the legislation is signed into law.”
Though the HR 6 is popular on both sides of the aisle, democrats worry that these efforts may not be enough to address the crisis, especially given other actions have had on funding and programs that combat opioid addiction.
“Republicans directly threatened the healthcare of people with opioid abuse disorder when the trump administration asked a federal court to strike down a key patient protection in the affordable care act. If successful, the trump administration’s action would eliminate protections that ensure more than 130 americans with pre-existing conditions cannot be denied coverage and guess who is considered a pre-existing condition? Opioid use disorders.”
The white house says they’re focusing on expanding access to evidence based treatment and recovery services, and that they’ve helped secure $6 billion in additional funding for the next two years. lawmakers continue to say eliminating the stigma of treatment is vital.
“For too long, embarrassment and stigma surrounded the disease of addiction. It’s time for that to change. If you’re struggling with addiction, if you’re fighting that invisible battle, please know that it’s ok to seek help. We don’t want those people to become part of that deadly statistic. You matter.”
with more than 214 million subscriptions written for opioids in 2016 alone, some lawmakers say even this bill doesn’t address the magnitude of the crisis. representatives and senators are calling for significantly more funding to give communities more resources to cope. for rfdtv, i’m sarah mock in washington.
A recent senate appropriations bill also had a significant focus on the opioid epidemic. It allocated $1.5 billion in additional funds to replace expiring programs, and increased the funding for rural telehealth programs. The support patients and communities act has not yet been taken up by the senate.

1112 Seven Principles of Highly Successful Dentists with Bill and Christina Blatchford
Dr. Bill Blatchford developed a large and profitable practice in Corvallis, Oregon starting in 1970. Dentist would come to visit to see what he was doing . He was also asked to speak at meetings all over the US and Canada. It developed into a business coaching dentist how to live a healthy life style and to develop a practice to support their life, not the other way around where life is what is left over. He has spoken at every major dental meeting in North America and many other countries including India, Dubai, Egypt, England, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand. He and his wife Carolyn have been married 52 years. They raised two daughters, Tiffany and Christina. Dr. Christina has followed him into dentistry and now is the owner of Blatchford Solutions. Before becoming co CEO of Blatchford Solutions with my Dad two years ago, I had several different careers leading me down this path. My parents were encouraging and supportive of any direction, as long as it was forward, that I chose to take in my career. I chose a degree in Fashion Merchandising, my Dad says I majored in shopping! from the University of Arizona. Working as a sales associate at Nordstrom for a year, I learned much about sales and myself. Retail did not allow me to have the life balance so I chose another degree in Commercial Interior Design and worked in this field for five years. I designed medical and dental offices and I enjoyed the creativity this allowed.
Yet, I was still seeking more. I craved being able to make a difference in the lives of others plus the lifestyle I had seen my Dad provide our family. Additionally, I had come to the conclusion that I was unemployable. I wanted to be my own boss and make the big decisions, all signs pointed to a career in dentistry.
Growing up, I was able to see that my Dad was able to provide a full life for our family. I saw dentistry as a great profession. It was during my childhood, I saw the changes in him as he wanted more time with us and to pursue his interests. He wanted more return and to share the wealth with his team. This lead to the creation of Blatchford Solutions, one of the most trusted Coaching Programs for dental practices today.
I purchased my first practice as soon as I graduated OHSU School of Dentistry. I also am very fortunate to get to raise Grace, age 7, with my husband, Dave.
After success as a dentist, I started coaching some clients and found it is just the best feeling ever to coach our Doctors to reach and succeed further than they thought possible! As I have grown into the co CEO position, I feel strongly in continuing to practice dentistry. I feel it gives our program a new relevancy. My experience mirrors that of new practice owners with new ideas, new excitement and new energy, along with a new vision for the business.
My plan is to help my dad take Blatchford Solutions to the next level of dental business coaching. With new ideas, new programs, new seminars, new growth, my question to you is…….are you ready to take your life and practice to the next level?
