China's Ice City Harbin 2019
China's northern ice city of Harbin has built its tourism sector into a 10-billion-U.S. dollar-level industry, with its renown as one of the country's top winter destinations continuing to draw in huge numbers of visitors.
As the capital city of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, Harbin has been making good use of its ecological resources including ice and snow, and forests and wetlands, in an effort to build itself into a top-notch, all-season tourist location, while also being a popular international tourist attraction in winter.
Tourism became Harbin's second 10-billion-U.S. dollar-level industry in 2016. The city received more than 77.12 million tourists in 2017 and made a total revenue of over 117 billion yuan (around 17 billion U.S dollars).
It has gained international attention for its increasingly popular winter extravaganza, the International Ice and Snow Festival, which features elaborate ice sculptures, competitions and a plethora of winter sports.
Every winter, visitors from home and overseas flock to Harbin, increasing consumption, creating jobs and greatly stimulating the local economy.
Diverse winter activities have been appearing since Harbin held its first ice lantern fair in 1963, with the first ice and snow festival following in 1985.
The Harbin Ice and Snow World, a theme park with snow sceneries and magnificent ice sculptures, was built by the local government in 1999 to welcome in the new millennium.
Covering an area of 800,000 square meters, the park has helped advance ice and snow art in China into a major stage which features elaborate modern designs and mechanization, and continues to impress visitors from all around the world.

Harbin Siberian Tiger Park (China)
Siberian Tiger Park / 哈尔滨东北虎林园 is to the north of the Songhua River to the northwest of Harbin, occupying an area of 355.8 acres. It is the largest natural park for wild Siberian tigers in the world at present. You can buy a ticket and take a minivan from one of the Sun Island entrances/exits.
ACCORDING TO WIKITRAVEL: If you want to go by bus instead of taking a taxi, take the 88 line (facing the train station, walk into the small street on your left for 300 m before seeing the bus stop) to Shangye Daxue 商业大学. It should take about 30 minutes, and it is the third stop after the long stretch of highway crossing the river. Then, take the 54 bus towards the same direction, and you will see the entrance to the Tiger Park on your right after 5 minutes or so (Bus 54 didn't function in Dec 2013). Alternatively you can take the 88 line to the last stop, go straight and on the first crossroad go right for about 5 minutes. Another route is to taking Bus 29 at the north end of Zhaolin Da Jie city bus terminal for 2 RMB.
Frightened Siberian Tigers Beaten at a Circus in Harbin Tiger Park
Frightened and beaten Siberian tigers at a circus in Harbin Tiger Park (Heilongjiang province, China).
This is what happen in public so you can imagine what is happenning behind the scenes...
This was the worst part of my visit at Harbin Tiger Park. Although I can understand that the goal of the park is about tigers breeding, I didn't liked at all this part of the park and what is going on at this circus.

Experience: Frozen River Playground in Harbin, China
We went to Harbin in January to see the annual Ice and Snow World - an absolutely amazing event. But in addition to the Ice and Snow World and the Ice and Snow Expo, ice sculptures and frozen events can be found throughout the city, especially up and down Zhongyang Street. The Songhua River freezes more than a meter thick and it turns into a giant winter wonderland playground with slides, skating, and plenty of other fun icy games.
Video taken January 14, 2014.

Winter culture in Harbin/China:
Located in northern Northeast China, Harbin is the northernmost among major cities in China. Under the direct influence of the Siberian Anticyclone, the average daily temperature is −19.7 °C (−3.5 °F) in winter. Annual low temperatures below −35.0 °C (−31.0 °F) are not uncommon. Nicknamed Ice City due to its freezing cold winter, Harbin is decorated by various styles of Ice and snow Sculptures from December to March every year.
The annual Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival has been held since 1985. Although the official start date is 5 January each year, in practice, many of the sculptures can be seen before. While there are ice sculptures throughout the city, there are two main exhibition areas: enormous snow sculptures at Sun Island (Taiyang Dao, a AAAAA-rated recreational area on the opposite side of the Songhua River from the city) and the separate Ice and Snow World that operates each night with lights switched on, illuminating the sculptures from both inside and outside. Ice and Snow World features illuminated full-size buildings made from blocks of 2–3 feet thick crystal clear ice directly taken from the Songhua River which passes through the city. The sculptures inside the exhibition ground takes 15,000 workers to work for 16 days. In early December, ice artisans cut 120,000 cubic metres (4.2 million cubic feet) of ice blocks from Songhua river's frozen surface as raw materials for the ice sculptures' show. Massive ice buildings, large-scale snow sculptures, ice slides, festival food and drinks can also be found in several parks and major avenues in the city. Winter activities in the festival include Yabuli Alpine Skiing, snow mobile driving, winter-swimming in Songhua River, and the traditional ice-lantern exhibition in Zhaolin Garden, which was first held in 1963. Snow carving and ice and snow recreations are famous nationwide, especially among Asian countries including Korea, Japan, Thailand and Singapore.
The Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival is one of the four largest ice and snow festivals in the world, along with Japan's Sapporo Snow Festival, Canada's Quebec City Winter Carnival, and Norway's Holmenkollen Ski Festival.
Every November, the city of Harbin sends teams of ice artisans to the United States to promote their unique art form. It takes more than 100 artisans to create ICE!, the annual display of indoor Christmas-themed ice carvings in National Harbor, Maryland; Nashville, Tennessee; Kissimmee, Florida; and Grapevine, Texas.Wikipedia
