GUILIN - A must-visit in China
Be captivated by the beauty of Guilin! Its atmosphere is far more different from Beijing and Shanghai for all you can see is nature at its finest. Rain or shine, its still majestic! It was raining when we went to Li River. I felt lazy at first to go out of our hotel. But lo and behold when we get there, I was in awe! They were able preserve the scenic areas and even the houses and markets, look so legit ancient!

In today’s small video you’ll be seeing us moving from the city Guilin to Kunming. We took the high speed train to Kunming that takes about 4 hours. We arrived at Kunming in the evening where i’ll be giving a small tour through our Airbnb. Kunming is the capital and the largest city of Yunnan province in southwest China. Population is around the 7 million people.

Living in a RURAL VILLAGE in Guilin, China
Growing up a Kiwi in NZ but born in China it has always been one of Peter's dreams to go back to the country of his birth and stay in a remote village nestled among spectacular mountains.
We took a high speed bullet train from Guangzhou to Guilin and got to turn Peter's childhood dream into reality by going to an old Chinese fishing-farming village from the Qing dynasty and staying there for 10 nights. Peter found an ancient Qing dynasty lao jia (old home) accommodation which was where we stayed at. It's located in a small village in rural Guilin, China with a population of around only 300 people.
It's a couple hours drive to get to the village. There is only one ferry to this rural Guilin village and one ferry back out. We mingled with locals, enjoyed the scenic beauty, peacefulness and all the simple everyday things in life. As a Chinese born Kiwi growing up with Western culture this has been a massive thing Peter always wanted to do so since quitting our jobs to travel the world. It's amazing to finally turn a childhood dream like this into reality and check a number of items off both our bucket lists.

Special thanks to Hai Bo for being a wonderful caretaker during our stay and the rest of the team too like Mao sifu delivering us soy bean milk daily and inviting us to his home, Xiaomo for cooking us the delicious vegetarian meals everyday and also to Ayi for the homemade baozi and keeping our place clean too. Such warm and lovely people.

Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China. Beijing means northern capital. The city is the country's political, cultural, educational and military center. It has been the heart of China's history for centuries, and there is scarcely a major building of any age in Beijing that does not have at least some national historical significance.
Classic China Tours 14 Days Yunnan
This classic china tour combined with a little adventure in Yunnan Province covers the highlights in Beijing, Shanghai and Xi'an as well as the beautiful natural attractions Yunnan China.
Day 1 Arrival in Beijing
Arrive in Beijing early in the morning. Meet and transfer back to Beijing Holiday Inn Express Hotel 3-4* or similar. Rest for several hours and have breakfast. Afterwards, depart the hotel for a full day tour to the world’s largest city square in the world-Tiananmen Square, the symbol for China. Then walk north to visit the Forbidden City, a huge complex built in 1420 serving as a residence for 24 emperors from Ming and Qing Dynasties. Enjoy a Chinese lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit the beautiful imperial garden-Summer Palace in the western suburb of Beijing. On the way back to the city, drive by the Olympic Green to get a photo opportunity of the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube. Return to hotel. The rest of the evening is free at leisure. (B, L)
Day 2 Beijing
After breakfast at the hotel, depart the hotel for a full day excursion to the Great Wall and Ming Tombs. Visit Chang Tomb, the biggest and best preserved among all the 13 Ming Tombs. Enjoy a short walk along the Sacred Way with 36 carved stone statues lined up on both sides of the walkway. After lunch at local restaurant, continue to Great Wall at Mutianyu Section, where a cable car can take you to the Wall built high up on top of the mountain. Return to Hotel, enjoy a free evening or can check with the guide for optional evening activities such as Peking Opera or Kungfu Show. (B, L)
Day 3 Beijing/Xi’an
In the morning, depart the hotel to visit the Temple of Heaven where you can see many local people doing morning exercises as well as a magnificent historical Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest, a circular blue building built without nails and cement about 500 years ago. Then proceed to the Lama Temple, a Tibetan Buddhist temple built over 200 hundred years ago. It is still an active temple with many Lamas and Buddhists. It has an 18 meter tall Maitreya Buddha Sandalwood sculpture. After lunch at local restaurant, transfer to the old part of Beijing to enjoy a short rickshaw ride in the old neighborhood of Hutong area to get a close contact with Beijing local people. Afterwards, transfer to the train station for an overnight train to Xi’an. Stay overnight in soft sleeper compartment on the train. (B, L)
Day 4 Xi’an
Upon arrival in Xi’an, transfer to New Henderson Hotel 3* (mehoodhotel.com) or similar. After breakfast at the hotel, start a city tour of Ancient City Wall, the Grand Mosque and its outside market. Enjoy a free evening (B, L).
Day 5 Xi’an
Enjoy a full day excursion of Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Terra-cotta Museum.
Day 6 Xi’an/Kunming(1891 meters)
In the morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Kunming, With a history of more than 2,400 years, Kunming was the gateway to the celebrated Silk Road that facilitated trade with Tibet, Sichuan, Myanmar and India. After lunch, Visit Dragon Gate on the Western Hills.
Day 7 Kunming-Jianshui (1800 meters)
Drive 220 kilometers to Jianshui，3.5 hours. Visit Family Zhu Garden, Confucius Temple, Chaoyang Tower, old town Jianshui.
Day 8 Jianshui/Yuanyang (1400 meters)
Visit Family Zhang Garden in the morning. Excursion to Yuanyang in the afternoon by road, 3.5 hours.
Day 9 Yuanyang
Visit terraced rice fields and village of Hani minorities.
Set near China-Vietnam border and with Yuanjiang River flowing through, Yuanyang is now attracting more and more attention from overseas tourists for its unparalleled terraced paddies and diversified ethnic cultures of the Hani, Yi, Dai and Yao.
Day 10 Yuanyang-Stone Forest-Kunming
Yuanyang- Stone Forest by road, 5.5 hours. Visit the Stone Forest.
Day 11 Kunming/Shanghai
Transfer to airport for your flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival in Shanghai, meet and transfer to Shanghai Holiday Inn Express Putuo hotel 3* or similar. Enjoy a free evening or check with the tour guide about an evening river cruise on the Huangpu River. (B, L)
Day 12 Shanghai
Enjoy a full day tour to Yu Garden and the old town, Jade Buddha Temple and Shanghai Museum with audio explanation. Enjoy a walk at Xintiandi. Return to the hotel. An optional acrobatic show is available tonight. (B, L)
Day 13 Suzhou
Enjoy a full day excursion to Suzhou including visits to Lingering Garden, Panmen Gate-the ancient city gate of Suzhou and a silk factory to see how silk is produced. Lunch is included. Return to Shanghai. The evening is free at leisure. (B, L)
Day 14 Shanghai Departure
Transfer to the airport for your flight home. End of service. (B)
