Community Court of Racial Reconciliation at Christ Church Cathedral, 2005 in Cincinnati, Ohio
This Community Court of Racial Reconciliation was convened in 2005 at a Racial Reconciliation Institute sponsored by Christ Church Cathedral (Episcopal) in Cincinnati, Ohio. The video excerpts edited here are provided as a prime example of the truth-telling and trust-building approaches promoted by Southern Truth and Reconciliation—STAR, Inc. southerntruth.net STAR is a consulting organization founded in Atlanta, Georgia in 2003 to help communities transform truth-and-reconciliation ideals into local practices of truth-telling and trust-building for all parties. STAR responds specifically to groups in the U.S. South where a legacy of lynching and other communal forms of racial-ethnic violence continues to impair social ties, undermine fairness and honor, and complicate civic affairs.
STAR’s mission goals and objectives include (1) connecting-the-dots between past incidents and current affairs so that community leaders and stakeholders can first recognize and subsequently navigate and manage sensitive connections between past and present. Consultation services provide (2) a menu of options from which communities can craft their own best practices including: team-building across racial-ethnic divisions; dialogue and focus groups; public education and school curriculums; truth-telling or speak-outs in the form of statement taking, story-telling or oral histories archives; truth commission formats and criminal justice referrals; public policy recommendations; memorial events, arts and media events, scholarships and other community projects.
To summarize, STAR’s consulting expertise is based on researching truth commissions worldwide and nationally—for example the Greensboro( NC) truth and reconciliation commission, 2004-2006; contextualizing truth commission approaches for the U.S. and U.S. South in particular; promoting best practices via a ‘menu of options’ spanning criminal justice, social justice, and restorative justice (restoring community relations via mediation, alternative dispute resolution, and conflict transformation); and recommending next steps for clients, constituencies and community partners.

Cincinnati archdiocese ordains largest priest class in 40 years
MT. WASHINGTON, Ohio (WKRC) - The largest class of priests in four decades will be ordained Saturday by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
Sitting on 65 acres in Mt. Washington is one of the most sacred spots in the Tri-State. The Athenaeum of Ohio-Mount St. Mary's Seminary has prepared men for the priesthood since 1808.
Fr. Chris Geiger of St. Andrew-St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Milford was ordained three years ago.
I never wanted to be a priest. I always wanted to get married and have a few kids and teach high school math. That was always my dream. But when I was in college, I started to pray more and be open to what God might be calling me to, and it was just very clear that he was asking me to do this, Geiger said.
Joining Geiger in the priesthood are nine men. Two are from Uganda. The others represent 19 counties in Cincinnati's archdiocese. They entered the seminary with a bachelor's degree and spent the last five to seven years in prayer and study. There hasn't been a class this big since 1979.
It's not just the Archdiocese of Cincinnati seeing an increase. It's becoming a nationwide trend. According to a study by Georgetown University, the number of men entering the priesthood has increased by 17 percent since 2008. Across the country in 2019, 481 men are being ordained compared to 401 in 2008.
The rector, Fr. Anthony Brausch, says it's a sign of hope.
So, next year we only ordain three for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, but the year after [we ordain] seven. So, we do know what the trend is going to be over the next four to five years because they're already in the pipeline. But in terms of an actual trend that's going to be sustainable, every year, we're looking to say, 'OK, how many is the Lord sending us this year?' Brausch said.
Brausch is counting on God's help -- a $12 million project is almost finished. Fenwick Hall will add 30 more rooms for seminarians. The 76 current rooms are occupied, and it's not just by Cincinnati's soon-to-be priests.
Charlotte, North Carolina, Tulsa, Oklahoma, are two of the further ones. But also Kansas City, St. Joseph, Toledo, Youngstown, Archdiocese of Louisville, said Brausch.
Mount St. Mary's Seminary of the West is preparing men from all over to answer God's call.
The ordination mass is open to the public. It's Saturday morning at 11 at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral downtown.
The following are the Priest Assignments:

Mount Auburn Presbyterian Church Has Drag Queen Give Sermon From Pulpit
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Dan Davidson dressed up as “Sparke Leigh” complete with a purple dress, makeup, high heels, and “a glitter beard” and stood at the Mount Auburn Presbyterian Church door greeting members and visitors. Following the song “God Welcomes All” by the church choir, Davidson walked up on stage and read the book Pride: The Story of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag to the audience. The story was intended for children, some of whom sat at Davidson’s feet during the reading.
“Harvey dreamed that everyone — even gay people — would have equality,” Davidson read. “He dreamed that one day, people would be able to live and love as they pleased.”
