Travel Spain - Visiting the Cadiz Cathedral
Take a tour of Cadiz Cathedral in Cadiz, Spain -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The Cadiz Cathedral in southern Spain is a bright, majestic site, located in the sunny region of Andalusia along the Atlantic Coast.
Completed in the 19th century, this cathedral took over one hundred years to build and represents both Baroque, and Neoclassical architecture with Rococo elements.
Upon entering the cathedral you'll find the tomb of a local composer, exhibitions focusing on the city of Cadiz, and delicately crafted religious artwork.
The exterior was constructed and embellished entirely in stone; the large golden dome, however, was lavishly created entirely of yellow tiles.
The top of the dome provides a resplendent panorama of the scenic town and gorgeous seascape.
Visit the cathedral either for its interior beauties and relics or for its exterior charm and city view.

Cádiz Cathedral, Cadiz, Andalusia, Spain, Europe
Cádiz Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church in Cádiz, southern Spain, and the seat of the Diocese of Cadiz y Ceuta. It was built between 1722 and 1838. The cathedral was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1931. The Plaza de la Catedral houses both the Cathedral and the Baroque Santiago church, built in 1635. The church sits on the site of an older cathedral, completed in 1260, which burned down in 1596. The reconstruction, which was not started until 1776, was supervised by the architect Vicente Acero, who had also built the Granada Cathedral. Acero left the project and was succeeded by several other architects. As a result, this largely baroque-style cathedral was built over a period of 116 years, and, due to this drawn-out period of construction, the cathedral underwent several major changes to its original design. Though the cathedral was originally intended to be a baroque edifice, it contains rococo elements, and was finally completed in the neoclassical style. Its chapels have many paintings and relics from the old cathedral and monasteries from throughout Spain. In the crypt are buried the composer Manuel de Falla and the poet and playwright José María Pemán, both born in Cádiz. Poniente (or West) Tower, one of the towers of Cádiz Cathedral, is open to the public and shows panoramas of the city from on high.
Church of St. Peter, Arcos de la Frontera, Andalusia, Spain, Europe
The Church of San Pedro de Arcos de la Frontera, repesenta one of the greatest exponents of religious architecture from the late Gothic of the Province of Cadiz. It is a church with a single nave, rectangular, which is adosan six side chapels, three on each side, with an inner porch at the foot of a triple entrance arch to the nave. The interior houses the solemn harmony of the original Gothic, without desentone the large presence of Renaissance elements and especially Baroque with later is completed. It has a total of three covers, if practicable but only on the gospel side, through the ground floor of the majestic tower facade dominates the whole image and citywide. Corresponding to the canons of Gothic apse is deep and polygon with seven sides or canvas, without ornamentation or windows; and inwardly occupies a large altarpiece, the oldest in the province of Cádiz, beautifully crafted and built in the first half of the sixteenth century with the characteristics of late Gothic and some Renaissance elements. With two bodies of height and seven blocks and two side wings in the center has pictures attributed to Anton Vazquez, the remainder occupied by 24 panel paintings, works of painters Pedro Fernández de Guadalupe, Anton Sanchez and Hernando de Esturnio. The first chapels on both sides of the ship shaped like a cruise and end in the first half of the seventeenth century. The gospel side, called the Forgiveness, founded the family Ayllon in 1502 in memory of the Battle of Guadalete close of 1483, and it flags that recall the victory of warden of the town of Arcos Juan Ayllon on Muslims appear . The presiding an altarpiece of the eighteenth century, and one side, on the other plateresco XVI can admire a remarkable high relief of the sacrament. Another great chapel of this church is the Tabernacle, at the foot of the nave of the epistle, baroque building in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, with high quality altarpieces and images of artistic circle of Pedro Duque Cornejo. At the foot of the church and in front of the chancel choir baroque eighteenth century, closed in his face with artistic fence and lectern in the center stands. Some chairs made valuable mahogany, cedar and ebony, with reliefs depicting saints and scenes from the Passion of Christ are available. The roof of the temple is a triple vault with backbone, as it is the apse, which shows a beautiful range of thick branched nerves. The exterior of the temple is barely visible just over the great tower facade, a square with three bodies of height: cover, balcony and tower, topped by a unique clock and belfry. Subsequent to the rest of the church chronology, it is already done under the aesthetics of Baroque. Its beginning to Manuel Gómez, greater teacher of Jerez de la Frontera in 1728 is attributed, according to the plans of architect Diego Antonio Díaz; and, subsequently, in the aftermath of the 1755 Lisbon earthquake new works are undertaken in it, getting the belfry under the direction of Seville architect Pedro de Silva, from 1759. The entrance door is flanked by paired double column double niche in the bays, overlapping and picture set on running a strong entablature in the center an image of the holder, San Pedro, is located on a bracket in hollow lintel.

Oratorio de la Santa Cueva and Iglesia de San Antonio
Footage of the famed Oratorio de la Santa Cueva (an ancient church dug into a cave) and Iglesia de San Antonio (a stunning church that shares its name with a plaza). Both are amazingly beautiful religious sites in Cadiz, Spain. Santa Cueva features two Goya paintings, and I even got to go to a Catholic mass (in Spanish) in San Antonio one Sunday afternoon. Awesome!

St Antony of the Germans is a Baroque, Roman Catholic church located at the corner of Calle de la Puebla and Corredera Baja de San Pablo Madrid, Spain. It is noted for its baroque interior decoration. It was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1973.
The 17th-century church is built in the Baroque style and was designed by Pedro Sánchez. The highly decorative High Altar and three side altars belong to the 18th century and were commissioned by the last Habsburg kings of Spain.
The church was built in the 1620s-1630s by King Felipe III along with a hostel and hospital for the Portuguese migrants who moved to Madrid when Portugal was under Spanish rule. For this reason it was originally called Hospital de los Portugueses. When Portugal gained independence, Phillip IV's Queen, Mariana de Austria, dedicated the refuge to German immigrants, and changed names.
King Phillip V gave the administration of the church over to the Hermandad del Refugio (Fraternity of Sanctuary), and this group continues to manage it today, offering food and shelter to the homeless of Madrid.
The Church is dedicated to St Antony of Padua, patron saint of the poor. St Antony was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1198, and became a first an Augustinian, then a Franciscan order monk, well known for his eloquent sermons. He preached in France and Italy, and died in Padua in 1231 at the age of 36. St Antony is considered the patron saint of those with items lost or misplaced.
The church houses frescos by Luca Giordano and Francisco Ricci. The prolific Neopolitan painter Giordano was court painter (1692-1702) to Charles II of Spain, and active for the Royal Palace and the Buen Retiro Palace.
He was renowned for his speed of painting, and had been nicknamed Luca-get-it-done-fast (Luca fà-presto). On one occasion at the Spanish court, the Queen apparently asked him what his wife looked like, and he proceeded to include her image in the painting he had before him.
Francisco Ricci was the son of an Italian painter, and came to Madrid to work on the decorations at the Escorial Monastery under Federico Zuccaro. This Baroque church is a short walk from the Gran Vía and the nearest Metro station at Callao.

Cádiz - Corpus Christi Festival June 2010
The Corpus Christi Festival is essentially a religious event that ranks second in importance, next to the Holy Week celebrations. It celebrates the Eucharist and its elements, particularly the Holy Host. The celebration began in the 14th century and lives up to now. It is celebrated on the Thursday after the eight day of Whitsun, which is the 7th Sunday after Easter.
During the Corpus Christi Festival, the streets of Cadiz, particularly those near the cathedral are elaborately adorned and filled with aromatic plants. The custodias (which are usually made in silver) contain the Holy Host and this is paraded throughout the city in a solemn procession of devotees who wear religious costumes.
The festival began with the nun Juliana of Liege. She had a strange vision when she began to pray. In the vision, she saw a full moon appearing, its center is darkened, as if a shadow were blocking it from view. Then, it is said that Christ himself explained the vision to her, saying that the moon symbolized all religious celebrations. However, there still was one missing -- the exaltation of the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. At that time, this tenet was being debated upon.

MALAGA: Witnessing the EASTER HOLY WEEK (SEMANA SANTA) ???? RELIGIOUS PROCESSION
SUBSCRIBE: - Watch this incredible religious procession in beautiful Malaga (Spain) where hundreds of men carry a huge float of Virgin Mary around the city, accompanied with music and people dressed in colorful robes. This event is called Semana Santa(Holy Week), the Catholics commemorate the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus. It takes place every year and begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Resurrection Sunday.
In Spain the Cofradías (brotherhoods) take to the streets the Pasos (floats) which are carried by the costaleros in procession. Also in procession the cofrades who wear the penitencial clothes are the Nazarenos. This tradition originated in the 16th century.
